I wonder if the reviews would be different if this game wasn't being sold as a AAA game.
I thought this was known for this game. Everything leading up to it has seemed like exactly this.
5 out of 10 is average to me. Not mediocre
It's using a scale like that which is why a game getting a 7 is deemed as hot garbage, and only a 9 constitutes a good game.
Enjoy ACG reviews but the sound track is not entirely procedural, there's music from some band Sean likes. And Spore was made by Will Wright and Maxis not Sid Meier.

I dont know why you bought this game if it didnt seem like something you would like. From everything we have been shown up to the point it came out, it was obvious what it would be. It seems like you bought it hoping it would be something else, and are unhappy that it wasnt.
Anyway, pointless talking further, thats what the ignore function is for after all.

After reading the review itself the score is higher than expected. But it was a good read.
they mean the same thing?
Mediocre means average though
Holy shit....
And I gotta say in hindsight I like that it isn't as hard and can be a relax game.
If you could fast travel to your ship, that ruins the whole danger and such of exploring. Look at the impressions of people on hazardous planets, and then imagine how boring it would be if you could call your ship to you or teleport to your ship
They mean pretty much the same thing. Mediocre applied to qualities might have a more negative implicit connotation, because who wants to go out of his way to spend time with something that's average?
Then institute a mechanic where you can't fast travel if you're in danger like many other games have done. I want to be able to get lost on my own terms.
Some planets would have you "in danger" from the moment you land. The game is about exploration/resource gathering and any sort of fast travel mechanic completely negates that. It's just not the game for that.
I'm absolutely loving my experience with the game so far. I don't think it's anywhere close to the grind level of a mobile game. Different strokes for different folks.
Serious question, how can you relax when everything you do needs a ton of resources?

Same here, but on my headphones last night and just explored. Got jumped by bandits making a run to a space station and lost my haul though. Sublime. Just having fun exploring and talking to aliens and finding shit and exploring new planets. It's nice and I'm having fun. Such a different experience from so many games.
I think that's fine, if the game made that explicit to you when you land on the planet. I just don't think the exploration and fast travel are mutually exclusive.
How do you expect them to follow Minecraft in this though with years and years of updates? How will they sustain this level of support with the high price of their game compared to Minecraft? Minecrafts ability to fund years of free content and additions relied on the sheer volume of copies they were able to shift at a bargain price, something NMS doesn't have. When people mention this and Minecraft, besides the crafting and procedural exploration, they're not saying NMS is going to become Minecraft. But rather how Minecraft was massively expanded upon and while the original concept is still the same, the current game is much bigger, with huge expansions in mechanics and features, Sean and co plan to do the same wth No Man's Sky. Build upon the core concept and gameplay in major ways in the years to come.

403 for me.
is super on point - it's a 60$ game - if he thinks he's played it long enough to know that it won't get any better for him, posting the review is actually his responsibility. After all, right now, people are still caught in the hype cycle, with only some early impressions making people weary.
Not to discount Jim's experience but he basically plays shitty variants of these types of games for a living on his channel. So I'm sure his tolerance threshold for this type of game is rock bottom. Whereas a regular person isn't playing survival crafting games 24/7.

Jim is the only person that my gaming tastes align, so I am glad that I didn't pre-ordered this game. I'll probably buy it next year when it's below 20 pounds.
I don't understand how Jim gives his review scores. PvZ GW 2 — 9.5, Unravel — 4, Battleborn — 8.5, Overwatch — 8.5... I like this guy, but his scores are so random sometimes.

Reviewer says, it's basically an One-Trick-Pony that is able to wow you for the first 5 hours when you encounter news things but after that it's all routine. He played 40 hours and says he wished he stopped after 10.
Or you could argue the opposite way, in that this game should've been his light in the dark, after playing so many shit copies
Mass Effect 1 Side Missions: The Game.

edit: I will still buy it and play it in smaller doses. I don't think a review marathon is a good thing for this game.
I'm on system 3 - they're pretty samey to be honest. Those saying that all the planets are samey - have you travelled to other star systems? Are there like 'styles' to each star system? or are we saying from planet one to 'near the centre' there's little variation?
