100% agree. Nothing happened during Obama's presidency and no Trump's dumb supporters are going to start killing people if he doesn't win? Doubt it. I really believe a large swath of his supporters hate politics and will tune out after he loses until the next presidential election.

To be fair, there have been five assassination attempts during Obama's presidency.

I've seen people with smartphones and I presume the internet (based off the amount of friendly folks on facebook), why don't people ever bother google searching stuff?

Is it weird to want to do some quick searches about anything that comes out of any politicians mouth?

Heck why did people even start trusting Trump in the first place? Thought the rich are the least trustworthy folks, no matter what your class or ethnicity is, is pretty universal?

Well the first comments he made that put him on the map during the primaries was fearmongering about Mexico importing murderers and rapists into the country, so that should tell you a lot about the people who support him.

"Because he's on TV and you can trust people on TV with catchphrases. And he says what i'm thinking ya know, but don't ask me to clarify that because I don't want to be called a racist."

People need to stop asking "How Trump' and start accepting a very large chunk of American's have not progressed past the 60's.

Their ignorant assertions are where their self esteem comes from. They are empowered by feeling like they are "in on" some secret. It's the same basic psychology behind conspiracy theory nuts, but even simpler. They don't read long bullshit articles or watch hour long Alex Jones videos and then parrot his bulkshit. They get sound bites and meme images and Facebook posts full of toxic drivel they repeat, They don't even have a bunch of fake knowledge like say 911 truthers just super simple one liner craziness.

It's like the Colbert "facts don't matter truth does" jokes gone wild.

The world is complex, the issues we face are difficult to grasp. Believing simple bullshit is easier.

Nothing will happen I feel. Like had a black man elected and nothing happened. I doubt a white woman being elected will result in anything.

Other than the Sovereign citizen bullshit, a Congresswoman being shot, Tea Party maniacs taking over the House, a government shutdown, striking down preclearance, local municipalities actively using that ruling to discriminate against voters, a Supreme Court vacancy, and a unprecedented call to 2nd Amendment nutters from a presidential candidate to take matters into their own hands...

If Clinton gets what she wants, there will be this, and more. If she doesn't get what she wants it will still happen.

So for people outside of US like me.. what exactly he suggest?

To me, his actual intent doesn't really matter. What matters is the ambiguity of the statement.

Words spoken by the President carry a lot of weight. Not just here in the US but around the world. Making ambiguous, asinine comments can, at worst, start wars and Trump has made shitty comment after shitty comment without taking any responsibility for them. He clearly has no idea how dangerous his rhetoric can be.

Whether he meant violence or political power is irrelevant. At least three people sitting behind him reacted in shock to what he said. So people can try and defend him (those that have, also interpreted the statement both ways) but either way, it clearly shows how unfit he is to hold office.

I wonder the same thing. I'm always Googling things politicians say, posts from friends on Facebook, and even memes. But I notice a lot of people just spew any fucking meme they see without actually researching any facts. It drives me crazy!

Because Information overload and subjectivity, Theres is so much information on the internet which present two sides of the facts, so people will believe what they read based on their own Bias.

Of course they do. It's what they feel is true, and that's what matters.

Well said.

I hate to say it but if such a large percentage of the general population so blindly believes everything he says as fact, it's time they go after him legally. He constantly slanders people and blatantly lies and misrepresents the facts. Its about time they come up with some exception to freedom of speech, if you want to lie and talk shit to your friends that is one thing and of course that should be covered by free speech. Running for office and spouting lies constantly should be a crime. Hopefully when this is all said and done they take a serious look at this election and put laws in place so this kind of shit show can not happen again.

Yes, and? There has always been strife in America. Please have a little more historical perspective. There is not going to be a civil war. There will be more violence in a Chicago weekend than we'll see as the result of another Clinton Presidency.

There is a main difference you are not taking into account. These people have a prominent leader now. id love to stay and discuss more but i have to leave for work. i hope you are right and nothing happens but im unconvinced.

I just gotta say I'm disappointed so many folks in my hometown even went to this. UNCW didn't even really want to host it. It makes me feel odd looking at the videos and seeing faces of people I know just being complacent with something like this being said. Heartbreaking.

Donald Trump and his followers are living proof that war needs to be declared on the purveyors of misinformation.

It is counterintuitive in the age of information, but too many people are allowing themselves to be deceived into believing that all possibilities are equally probable. This is obviously not the case. It illustrates the dire need to teach the distinction between information and knowledge to our children. While the former is not necessarily true, the latter is verifiable and able to be documented. The gulf between the two is massive and all people need to be able to distinguish one from the other.

As a society we have utterly failed to teach people the difference and we are suffering the consequences.

I heard many people, alot of people, have said trust Trump. Some people say there's something going on but no one talks about it. Legit feeling sources

Pretty much the crux of it. You can't just be like "oh it was a prank bro" when you're running for president. Before the primaries, maybe? Running your own business, certainly. But not at this level. He doesn't think about a single thing that comes out of his mouth, and that alone is enough to disqualify.

It's only happening right now because they are just straight up not doing their jobs. They are actively not doing their duty and are justifying it under the guise of: "the American people need to decide it because it's an election year". If/When Hillary wins, what excuse will they come up with next? Or will they try to spend her whole presidency impeaching her and do nothing else? What the Republicans are doing is, afaik, entirely unprecedented.

Assuming for a second that Clinton wins but the GOP retains control of congress, I would be unsurprised if they made up another excuse and waited four more years to allow a Supreme Court justice to be nominated. They might give up in lame duck session and take Obama's moderate as hell pick tho.

At least the GOP knows Trump talks like a 4th grader.
Funny.

Giuliani was on GMA this morning using the exact same line of defense: "He is not very well spoken, he is not a politician".

Manafort on Damage Control Overdrive...
"Come on people! Our presidential nominee doesn't know what he's saying! It's Donald Trump for Cryin' Out Loud!"

I have to admit, I always look forward to Katrina's delusional responses because she has to try to defend the indefensible.

From Trump's biographer. Posted?

As I've said: Donald Trump doesn’t joke. He is never subtle. When he makes a death threat, it's because he's feeling impotence & rage.

No way they can just deny it for this long.

The longest vacancy ever was a bit more than two years and that was 150 years ago. By the time clinton is pres. It will already be a year since S. died.

It used to not be this way and the people who killed it are also the people trying to stop teaching "critical thinking" in schools.

For anyone with a functional brain observing how Trump talks, his off script asides are his actual inner thoughts. He tends to keep them somewhat ambiguous because he's been conditioned to do that as a shady business guy. If someone were to consolidate all of his off script asides from all of his rallies, that would be how he actually feels.

The republicans can do whatever they please.they consider themselves above the constitution

I used to think that all the craziness in third world countries would be combated by things like literacy, education, and that once we create a truly global free internet, despots and radicals would have no sanctuary. How could women stand disenfranchisement once then saw the freedoms that women in developed nations had? LGBTQ (thanks for the Q, Trump!) people would be able to come out of the shadows and be treated equally worldwide.

But seeing the people at Trump rallies... I've concluded that a significant proportion of people are just fucking nuts. And if you give an extremist power, and like... 30% support, you can disenfranchise the rest and stay on top.

If this guy makes it in he deserves to.

He's playing the media coverage like a fiddle, and you can't really blame the media too much. These kinds of quotes really should be reported and they bring in ratings. Reality tv culture implosion.

Like a fiddle? More like a jackhammer. An endless, irritating string of hollow noise that destroys everything it touches.

If this is his strategy, then his plan is to lose, badly.
