Personally, I just want the Neo to make the difference negllible. If it's something like current PS4 > X1 power difference, I won't bat and eye lash. Ps2>Xbox difference though? Hmmm...
Percentage wise, Scorpio -> Neo (4.2TF) is almost the same as the difference in power for PS4->XB1.

Mix that with the fact that the baseline is going to be ps4/xb1 rather than the baseline being neo/scorpio, the difference may be even smaller than ps4->xb1.

I don't think the OG PS4 being $249 unless they want to get rid of it and make space for Neo, and aren't the two models will coexist? $299 for PS4, $449 for Neo for me. $399 seems too good to be true.

$249 can kill Xbox One S 1 month after it's arrival which would be sad but at the same time hilarious, sad because I like my unit and wish people would give it a chance, hilarious because it's relevance is going to be out and the old pattern of MS having a more expensive and underpowered hardware is back again.

Edit: The only situation I can think of a 399 Neo is if the HDD starts at 500GB. I think it's going to start with at least 1TB to set itself apart from the OG PS4 storage wise

In case it is immediately available, my birthday is September 9th. Just sayin' ;)

Also, count me in for hype spaceship or whatever we're rocking this time. I will be making GIFs!

My vote goes for 449€. The downside is, that whatever the price is, it'll be ~50€ more expensive here in Scandinavia due to Nordisk Film, like the PS3+4 were.

1080 is 20-25% faster than 1070, price different $150. Neo is twice as fast as PS4, $100 difference is way under.

I could see a $250 PS4 and a $400 PS4K with the holiday bundle being $249 with a game. I think PS4K will just ride the 399 pricetag for the rest of the year.

I'm not expecting the unfinished version of the game on PS4. I can't wait to play the finished product on my Neo. I just hope it doesn't get delayed again.

If Sony can still sell PS4s and make a profit, I'm not sure they would care about the price to performance difference. If the OG PS4 suffers in sales then they have the freedom to consider another price drop.

Haven't decided what to do about the neo

I'd love to get it, but I have a 2tb harddrive in my current ps4. the 500gb that WAS there is now in my wii u, so I can't swap it back without losing my games there. So I can't really trade in my ps4 in my current setup.

I'm contemplating it for sure, but I don't have a 4K tv or HDR one so I'm guessing it may be pointless

I don't have a 4k tv either but i still going to get one .
Better version of games is all i need .
Then again i also buy a lot of Sony first party stuff and i expect them to push Neo .

XBox had more than 2x usable memory and was faster in most things than all 3 other consoles from that gen combined. Scorpio would need to double the currently announced spec to see a similar delta.

I recall that the PS2 to XBox graphics rendering delta was like 3x according to old Xbox engineers on Beyond34. We're nowhere near that level going by 4.2 to 6tflops. In addition to the unlikelyhood of HBM being used, and who knows about ZEN at this point..

OG model will at least get a $50 price drop when Neo launches. This fall there is just way too many high profile games that will be available that will help drive console sales.

I wish they'd go all in and slash the price by $100.

Wait until Sony announce PS4 Neo founder edition at $599.

They are not going to sit idly by, while MSFT has a $299 UHD playing, 4K streamer... unless they offer the same in a new OG model, then, and only then I see the price higher than $399 for the Neo.

if that’s the case, then I’m good with the low end. I don’t know anything about Teraflops on a GPU btw, I guess that’s how fast it is or something? All I know is, these consoles seem to have weak CPU's, because my little Mac mini is clocked higher than them lol. but apples to oranges and all that...I am looking at Uncharted 4 right now and it’s not underwhelming in the slightest.

Cool cool, then 4.2 should be enough then.

Hmm...would the industry benefit from Sony doing a 5.5TF and increasing the CPU to something newer and faster though? I mean, that would pretty much force MS to offer up something higher than 6TF and doesn’t everyone benefit?

Is 5.5 just too expensive to come in at $500 and make a profit for Sony? I know they aren’t into selling console at break even or loss anymore.

It boggles my mind why people keep saying this. The Neo will show a decent leap in visuals even for 1080p TV's.

4K HDTV's are like 7% - 10% of the population of HDTV owners man.

What I'm hoping is if devs decide to use 1440p resolution for Neo mode, the system would recognize users with 1080p TVs and basically provide a small amount of super sampling when scaling down to 1080p.

Cool cool, then 4.2 should be enough then.

Not sure it matters when the base systems are still XBO/PS4.

A 5.5TFLOP console this year would be pretty pricey as well.

Really interested what Neo is bringing to the table for 1080p TV users. Not buying a 4K TV till 55" OLED drops to 1500 EUR. They have to absolutely concentrate on the benefits for current users. 4K TV set owner are still the minority.

+1

That is the job of the OG PS4 after the price cut, not Neo's.

Neo is not for mass market appeal, in fact quite the opposite

Who said that? I hope your not going to bring up the premium quote again. Its been quoted to death and generally says nothing about the price of the unit.

Why exactly do they need to compete with the S? the S is just a slim version of a console in a race they are already winning? Why would the Neo compete with the S?

UHD Bluray compatibility. Sony can't not have a product to compete in this way, otherwise potential UHD seekers could be forced to buy an Xbone for it.

To be very clear, the high-end PS4, code-named Neo, that we are working on is an addition to the existing line-up, not a replacement. And perhaps we have an opportunity to move slightly away from just a static console that remains absolutely the same for a period of six, seven. eight years, and perhaps offer, in addition to the current PlayStation 4, something a little extra. Particularly – and I should stress this – in the area of graphic fidelity and games that will essentially play an awful lot prettier than games have previously.

I'm not sure if I'm interpreting this quote wrong, but that seems like PS4 co-exist with Neo, and if that is the case, won't the PS4 always would have the mass appeal since it would always be the cheaper one? This isn't about the numerical price but the price gap between OG and Neo.

Since when OG PS4 does 4K Blu-ray and streaming and HDR for games?

Those features will be on Neo and the vast majority of people will not benefit from this, the OG PS4 still has the power and library advantage over the One S no?

So let me get this straight.

You can afford a 4k TV with low latency and HDR support, but you wont spend the extra 100 dollars on the 4.4 Tflop neo and will buy a 1.2 Tflop Xbox One S instead? I find that hard to believe.

Yeah I'm in the same boat don't care about 4k stuff.

Has anyone discussed what Neo might look like? I hope for a complete redesign personally but would understand if Sony kept the current styling with a more premium finish.

I'd love to see some mock-ups.
