How important are Gravitino balls? I found a planet full of them and sentinels would get pissed when I took one.

Take as many as you can and sell them. Store them in your ship and suit and book it while picking them up. They sell for a good amount of units. Then buy yourself a bigger ship or something. I found a planet early on in my game with them everywhere, farmed them a couple times and bought myself a ship with 28 slots now :)

If you're going to take umbrage at something, it's on you to elaborate.

If we were standing in a coffee shop and I said "Danish pastries are brilliant" and you just looked at me and said "No they're not." then turned away, I'd be like "who the fuck is this guy?" and ignore you. It's basically a shitpost. But if you said something like "they're too flakey for me" you'd be engaging in a conversation and we would proceed accordingly.

There isn't enough criticism of the game in this thread so please elaborate.

It's a game full of repetition from the word go. Collect resources, travel to the next system, collect resources, travel to the next system.

It's completely mindless and I don't understand how anyone can have so much fun with this game when so much of it feels exactly the same.

There's little variety in the animals I've met, none of the planets I've visted have particularly wowed me either.

The thing I find most interesting is learning the alien languages, and even that just boils down to going up to a knowledge stone and holding square.

This is pretty much Repetition: The Game.

They should add some kind of bank in the game if you get shot down by pirates (which is a big possibility early in the game) you lose your cargo and your ship right ?

I am lucky I have not met any pirate so far but if I get killed with my current cargo il be pissed that's for sure .
You only lose cargo afaik. You can go back to where you died and grab your stuff.

They do - your grave is left where you die and you can collect it. A literal bank would be good but wouldn't promote exploration

The game actually feels more formulaic than I expected.

At least in terms of the progression. Obviously the planets etc are wildly varied right from the off, but the core loop of repair ship > launch > upgrade > find hyperdrive > fix hyperdrive > find Antimatter etc seems to be largely the same for all players. I was able to Google how to get some Antimatter and it gave me a very clear answer.

I'm assuming/hoping that's a necessary tutorial style progression though, and that the game opens up more once you're out of that. Is that the case?

Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying this game a lot, more than I thought I would actually, but knowing everyone is largely on the same basic path albeit on different routes would take some of the shine off the exploration for me.

HA!!! I hit the jackpot... I just got out of a planet that had a LOT of exosuit upgrade.. Like, every couple miles there would be one of those caskets with a suit upgrade.
Guess who have a 32 Slot exosuit????I DO!!!

Seeing the screens in the other topic just pushed me to buy it. Still bothered by being SP only.

Hopefully, one day someone will make a game that is the lovechild of NMS and EVE online. One day...

I just didn't google anything.

Found and fixed a ship with hyperdrive already in it.
Found a warp cell recipe and the Altas Pass V1. The pass let me open up things with Anti Matter.

I'm pretty sure that the anti matter recipe can be found randomly as well. I'm quite certain my starting adventure is vastly off course. I am following the atlas waypoints though.

After the beginning it's: craft hyperdrive fuel -> jump -> craft hyperdrive fuel -> jump ->

But still fun to wander around planets finding better gear along the way.

Minecraft was single player as well. They can add a bunch of stuff to this game, I am sure.

Also, I feel really bad for Sean. Hopefully he doesn't take everything to heart. NMS is a very fun game.

It's just not for everyone.

Have fun! The game is brilliant.

No it's not.

Compelling argument there.

As is "The game is brilliant."? Oh wait he has one more word than me!

Yes it is.

I know it's been determined that planets don't rotate, but I was on a planet with no atmosphere and could see 3 planets off in the distance, and I was able to observe them orbiting on a path. But it seems that when you're in space they are all more or less in a line. I wonder how that works.

Everything you put here is necessary to start exploring...no hyperdrive, no warp. It's going to be what people do across 10, 20, 30hrs where the paths will diverge wildly. Some will run for the centre, some will stay on a life-rich planet, documenting life like a space-Darwin on Galapagos Prime. Some will turn to a life of piracy and never land again.

Once you have the tools to explore, the rest is up to you. The gameplay loop is there to add a bit of challenge and mini objectives but not much more.

Just saw this on youtube.

i LOLd

Waiting for this game to come out on PC is hurting me T_T wish it was today. I'm busy all weekend so i wont be able to play.

I love how my multitool looks.

You might run into the same problem as I did if you min max mining on your multitool. For a long time I was only offered upgrades with less slots. I think I switched to an inferior one in hopes it would lead to better multitools and lo and behold soon I ended up with 4 more slots than I started with.

The game probably takes all three stats into account when determining the strength of your multitool and offers slight upgrades based on that.

Mid-30s, and yes this is the Atari Falcon game I read about that never released.

Seriously, I read in a magazine when I was around 12-13 about a game where you learn alien languages, trade across a universe, discover new species and fight space pirates.

This morning I was playing and I found a large venus-fly-trap-like plant you could interact with and
it opened up with a pearl inside but as soon as I picked up the pearl the sentinels went crazy 3 star. Managed to escape but now if I stand in one spot to check inventory and a sentinel scans me it starts attacking me. The thing is, the pearls aren't even expensive and there's nothing in the description so it must be something you can craft with them that the sentinels don't like?

Actually there was a french game on Atari ST called "L'arche du Capitaine Blood" that had a galaxy to explore, with procedural planets on which you could land. Some of them were home to Aliens with a language to learn. There was even an overarching story similar to NMS. I wonder if Sean ever played that game.

Planets do rotate:

"Equally impressive is the manner in which shadows shift across the world, based on a planet's rotation and position to a sun, creating a proper night-day cycle."

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-no-mans-sky-tech-analysis

Sadly apparently they don't revolve around their suns though.

So the effect you saw was probably caused by the rotation of the planet you were on.

So I ran into
Nada
and
Polo
a second time but I didn't get the v2 Atlas pass. How I do get upgraded Atlas Passes?

Can you give me some hints about
Nada and Polo
? I'm in my way to the first Atlus station and I was wondering when they would be mentioned again.

So I just found what seems to be my first hyperdrive upgrade pretty excited

Click for picture (if I did the whole image inside a spoiler trick right)

I was going randomly from planet to planet but is there a way to go on selected planets in the map?

I selected some but it doesn't seem that there is a sort of marker appearing when I look from the spaceship afterwards :/

Sorry probably the dumbest question in the thread but I want to lost myself but also try to go intentionally in some selected places too :)

No its not.. If you chose to follow the atlas it reach atlas station > get two hyoerdrive fuel >jump > jump> craft hyperdrive fuel>jump

Its a fun game...but this is definetely not a 60 dollar game. I actually regret buying it.

So I know the DLC is causing problems, but it isn't even showing up for me in game. Don't have the menu option to redeem content. Anyone else run into this problem? Even the preorder theme shows up in my themes but is locked and says I need to purchase it. Never had something like this happen after redeeming content.

Yes?

I haven't found anything that looks as good as what we saw in the trailers. Everything I've seen has been rather drab, full of mountains and a bit of water here. Nothing like the colourful worlds in the trailers.
Are you implying something?

Anyways, I've seen extremely lush and varied planets and I've only been to 4 different star systems.

That's just luck man. If you're bored with a particular place or planet, keep moving. Eventually you WILL find a place more interesting.

There are 18 quintillion in the game and there is a lot of variation! Seen it first hand.

Will reply to your other post soon, thanks for that, at work atm.

Thanks! To be honest, I kind of enjoy the hunt for one. I see other people getting bigger weapons, and I think its awesome that it's been a bit harder for me.

Just to clarify, when you are in outposts or shelters that have an alien in them, you can usually see the multi-tool and healing stations without a problem. But there is a third station that is not nearly as obvious. Personally, I think it looks like a baby-changing station that you find in real restrooms, if you know what they look like. But it's a red panel against the wall. When you approach it, it opens up and there is a new multi-tool to purchase. For me, it's been consistently better than the one I am carrying.

I'm on my... I don't know... 6th multi-tool at this point?

I don't know if that helps, but hopefully it does!

Seems like a bad roll of the dice. I'm watching my sister play and she's found nothing but gorgeous planets with varied creatures and plants. Knowing my luck, I'll probably get the opposite of hers and land on hell planets once the PC version unlocks :(

Finally got the chance to play a little, grabbed about 45 minutes this morning (got up early to play, haven't done that since I was a kid!).

So far, I really like it. The art style and sound track is glorious, hugely atmospheric and already its grabbed me with a 'I'll just see whats over that rock" compulsion.

I know I've barely scratched the surface and I've not even left the starting planet yet, but already I can sense this game is going to be great for me.

My starting planet is fairly mild I think, fairly low temperatures, passive wildlife, plenty of plants around. Not many sentinels and they're fairly lazy. The radiation is fairly benign too, I can potter around for maybe 10 minutes before my suit protection starts to run out. I've got my ship and mining tool fixed up and ready to go already, but I feel like I might explore a bit before I leave. I chose the 'freeform' option from the red ball, not sure what that entails, but I'm happy to just bumble around the universe exploring. No real urgency to get to the centre, its the journey I'm interesting in, not the destination.

Starting ship has 15 slots, not sure if thats good or bad. I'm resisting the urge to hoover up every material I see, so thus far inventory space has not been a big issue.

Very much my kind of game thus far.

Thats how I got mine. I was awarded some nice ones from a few monoliths and a few from talking to som Vy'keen dudes. But the majority of the good ones came from hanging on the wall of a Korvax house.

The problem I'm having is that I need to explore these planets because I have to find the resources to progress.

Yes, some more varied and nice looking planets would help my experience, but it wouldn't fix the problems I have with the repetitious core gameplay loop.
