Star Wars: Rogue One Story Trailer

What a weird shot to reveal Vader. Like we caught him while he was sitting on the toilet or something.

Would have been better to give us a full look at his face, or just play the breathing sound over a dark screen.

They did the breathing thing in the first trailer.

What I expected:

First trailer: Breathing
Second trailer: Vader Igniting his light Saber, but Vader himself is off screen
Third Trailer: Full Vader reveal

Did not expect to see actually see Vader in the second trailer.

I don't think we've reached Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days levels yet.

Dissidia 012 (Duodecim) Final Fantasy still my favorite

As someone whose favourite movie franchise is Star Wars I-VI by a significant margin, this looks to me like someone made a generic sci fi movie with Star Wars props, even moreso than The Force Awakens did. In unfortunate and I suspect at this point inevitable lieu of Lucas, I really wish Disney would hire someone who gets how this series works visually.

I'll wait 'til someone lends me a copy.

I don't know how anyone can dog this trailer out visually? It looks fantastic. Edwards knows how to craft scale and set pieces. The least of the worries is it looking good, because it will\does.

More than TFA? What specifically? All the space shots and battlefield-fighting-things-exploding shots are blowing it out of the water. This is the biggest those walkers have looked on screen.

It doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look like my Star Wars, either.

TFA was barely clinging to Lucas' inspirations of Ford, Kurosawa, Hawks etc (not to mention his own personal quirky stamp), but Edwards seems to have written his own visual rule book entirely. It really does looks like a modern, gritty war film.

The Fact that it doesn't look exactly like a Star Wars movie is a good thing. Leave that to the main trilogy. These side stories are the perfect place to experiment with new ideas.

God forbid a franchise expansion aimed at giving a wider range of filmmakers a change to tell self contained stories across the Star Wars universe in their own styles have a different look from the traditional core numbered series. What a travesty right?

That is the point of these side stories right? I hope every director gets the freedom to explore the Star Wars universe in his own way through those movies. The space opera is fine for the main movies, the other are great to try out different things we aren't used to from Star Wars.

Looks so much better than I was expecting. And they touch the tone I wanted for something in this franchise. Round two Gareth, dont go Shitzilla on me this time.

Exactly. A large part of what sold me on Rogue One (including this trailer) is that it feels familiar, yet inherently different from the mainline films, which is how Disney/Lucas will also be able to keep franchise fatigue at bay for a while by bringing us films with different styles and narratives.

Edwards has already proven with Godzilla that given a good budget he can make stuff look great. The ATAT scene in the trailer is really exciting. But I'm still concerned about his ability to direct human beings and his understanding of whether a scene with dialogue works or not.

Tfa hate has reached a critical level of stupid. Movie did almost everything right for a soft reboot and that task was not a simple or easy one. Also based on the immense amount of eu books i have read (nerd!) i would say stopping a bolt in midair, though it looks more impressive, would not be nearly as hard as absorbing all that energy. Even Jedi masters had issues absorbing large amounts of energy and vader does it no prob. Kyle is more about flashy demonstrations while vader does simple.
Absolutely agreed.

That's my main concern as well, Godzilla looked really great but the rest didn't match up.

It worries me that the trailers so far haven't communicated a single interesting character or story development. Just tone. For a 'story trailer' I feel no more enlightened as to any of that.

SMH, it's not a 'story trailer', it's a 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' trailer.

It did look good. But by the time the true action starts, the bad characters, direction given to the actors, editing choices, etc... I wanted be the Godzilla in that theatre room xD

I'm still hopefull for this one tho. Trully a New Hope.

Someone give this man a medal. Now. NOW!

Exactly my point. Should every movie or spin-off look the same? Hell no! It's great that, with these spin-off's, we are getting different Star Wars stuff to look at. Rogue One feels and looks different then the main movies. That's a good thing. I guess not everyone can handle #change.

Godzilla was a fun movie. Bryan did his job but wasn't the "main" character. I love how the film, at first, portrayed this though.

Yep. For every person complaining TFA was too samey there'll be someone saying Rogue One looks too different from the Star Wars formula. You can't please everyone. I think it looking like a war film set in the Star Wars universe is one of the most compelling things about it.

Not really. If they're going to make these movies, I'd rather have consistency and reverence for something I love, is all.

Well I was led to believe that this was the intention until we heard reports of Disney getting into a flap that their liberating, 'broader canvas' Anthology Star Wars movie wasn't Star Wars-y enough. Still, I always thought it was a bad idea and I still do.

This is where im at. Lots of potential.

I hope the awful dialogue in this trailer is down to out of context bad editing. The main girl delivers her lines terribly, who talks like that?

Wait did Forest Whitaker's character magically grow hair? I need a whole side plot about his hair now.

Great trailer tho. I'm definitely in.

They have consistency in them. They are set in the same universe, use existing characters, etc. They are not suddenly breaking with the rules of the Star Wars universe. They are just taking a different look at that material, which is very interesting to me.

Going to laugh when Vader pops up at end and does nothing just shows him docking with squad of Stormtroopers then ends linking to new hope.

Considering we are probably never to going to see this new cast ever again, I think you might be off base here.

I wonder if any of the characters will actually survive the mission?

Like, they'll probably keep one alive just for pathos while slaughtering the rest.

Visually looks great.

Script seems appalling and wooden as fuck.

Jyn has no chance. Like, she's probably got the lowest odds of surviving the film than any of them. She's dead meat. Her space goose is going to get cooked.

My money's on Diego Luna.

Ha, I wouldn't say the lowest odds as we definitely know one of them dies. But yeah, it still seems unlikely. I don't really think any of them will make it.

I still hope they all die in the end by the end of Vader.
This movie must have a bitter sweet ending. They did their mission, but they did not survive.
