No fan of FF would make a game with that crappy combat.

Wrong. Nomura himself says that the only people who can truly make FF are the fans who are willing to destroy FF. You cannot be a slave to tradition. You must risk everything to challenge the future!

They completely changed the story and several characters along with other things central to the visual style of Versus. Some base concepts are still in the final game but personally, a lot of what made Versus so appealing seems to have been stripped away.
That didn't change the fact the game is being developed since 2006... everything they changed is part of the development.

That happens with all games except this case is way way way longer.

I don't want tradition, I just want a good combat system.

They would have done the world a favour by scrapping Noctis & his squad along with Versus and have Nyx as the lead for FFXV.

The current version of the game has really only been in development since the end of 2013 though.

Only one I would say was great was FFXIII's *shrugs*.

Not even X-2? That's still the pinnacle of ATB from my perspective.

I also think X is one of the slickest turn-based systems out there.

But yeah, XIII's combat system is sweet.

Of course, I really like what I've played of XV in the demos too, and suspect the final game's combat is going to be just fine action rpg combat for anyone not expecting character action precision.

i never followed versus super carefully but... i don't see how anybody could tell one way or another how far XV deviates from it. we saw next to nothing, it was vaporware

I would honestly say most FF games play like shit. At the very least, the series isn't a paragon of outstanding combat like your post hints at.

This is nonsense. Even the most hated FF of all time, X-2, is known to have a stellar battle system.

Most FF plays pretty well... some combat system shines compared with others JRPG (FFV for example).

Combat is not the series strong suit. Usually have some new ideas that are promising and stylish but undercooked. It is all about the cast, atmosphere, vision, etc. The first of which makes action combat a really bad match for FF: it takes the characters out from under your control in battle, which is part of how you bond with them.

Still, I wouldn't say they play like shit, just that they aren't great at battle mechanics.

Sure, and I haven't played FFX-2 myself as I hated FFX, but what I'm mainly saying is that FF doesn't have a high standard for every entry. Either it's really good or bad.

And just because FFX-2 is hated doesn't mean it has to play bad. I don't know what the connection is there.

Exactly. How we know the story is completely changed when we've nvr played it? We still don't know much about the story

I'm optimistic about it if its true. The game seems to be coming together, and a delay of a few months is not enough to redo major systems, but it is enough to try and fix some core issues, as well as do more optimization. One more month of crunch can be the difference between a flawed game and a great one.

Had they decided to do major system overhauls or major game changes they wouldn't have such a short delay. It would have been delayed 6 months or longer.

This might be good for the game. Visually the game is fantastic. It's not a Duke Nukem Forever situation anymore where they need to play catch up on the tech.

We must stay united during the trials and tribulations of FFXV

I like the fact that the gif is in b&w, symbolizing how the best CG scene they showed for Versus isn't even in the game anymore. RIP.

Oh well, at least the pretty photo real toll booths got a cameo in Kingsglaive. Assets not totally wasted!!!

You don't understand - we're supposed to bond with these characters with YouTube anime and lengthy campfire ambient animations and close-ups of food.

That's the Final Fantasy of the future.

Yeah, I couldn't edit the part out as I was already quoted on it lol. I just don't think it's a paragon for awesome gameplay and is inconsistent with it.

The camp stuff is dope. What's so bad about it? At least it's trying to engage the characters in some sort of event outside of the main story.

You'll get your melodrama too.

Still need to try FFXII tho, and I can't be bothered to try FFV and everything before.

so sad.

I understand that you may not like the old style but it's not cool to call them garbage because they are not, at all.

It's your opinion though (even though you haven't try them all in the first place to make a statement like that), so I respect it.

I think they are all very good according to their generations.

Like I said what were changed is part of development.

It's like Ni-Oh to me. Both were in development but essentially vaporware and then got a major push in development and core ideas changed that made them different from what was announced 10 years ago.

You joke, but that Prompto episode of the anime and the VR trailer featuring him with the PSVR headset made me more interested in Prompto's character than I'd ever been before.

Look on the bright side, maybe they wanted to delay it so that they could launch the PS4, XB1, and PC versions all at the same time

Well, it's been like 10 years. What's another 2 months?

Game looks beyond awful to me. I don't know I lurked into this thread.

Taking the characters out of your control doesn't diminish the bond you have with them. The thing is FF fans have different sensibilities on what they want and expect which is why the fanbase is so divisive. Not to mention each single one of us had a different first experience with FF (6,7,8,9, etc) there's no universal consensus.

I can see the case of a complete different game but anybody that watch old concept will tell you it is FFXV.

The core is still the same and you can tell it is the same just watching the 2006 trailer.

FUCKING HELL. Of course the damn thing sounds legit. Great.

I normally don't mind delays that much, but considering how long we've been waiting for this, and all the effort they made to announce a release date, this is just pissing me off.

Goddammit, I really hope this is wrong or just made up.

That XV review thread is gonna be a fun time, I can already tell.

It's the only way that is going to go down.

It's not like anyone is going to expect otherwise.

Oh the NMS comment, I feel like this might even go to Duke Nukem level of "fun" in terms of reactionaries.
