I think so, I thought they were already sent out hence the leaks... wouldn't it be kinda late to just start sending them out in August if the Neo releases November/December? That's assuming the architecture is different, I don't know a lot about that stuff.

The dev kit out now is the Proto 2 available from ~May. The test kits Proto 1 and 2 have been out since ~May and ~July. These new kits are just final external designs with the test kits having the retail shell of Neo just like the PS4 and PS3 before it.

The most important thing for devs is that the Neo PDF says the current dev kit and test kit have final spec internal hardware.

That being devkit proto 2 from May?

That is how I read it:

my biggest fear is selling my ps4 now and neo coming months after psvr hits :x
I wouldn't worry about that scenario too much.

I'm expecting it to come out very close to PSVR. Possibly even the day of, or earlier so that they can take advantage of impulse purchasers who aren't able to find a PSVR in store but have want to spend money on something.

Another Playstation event, another Rockstar rumor huh? I ain't falling for that shit twice. lol

lmao definitely not expecting a Rockstar announcement here. Although that would be cool.

Rockstar don't need events. They are far more likely to just drop a trailer randomly and be done with it. Although it would be awesome if they showed something at PSX

There's an alleged "insider" on Twitter using emoji's to say Rockstar and the Playstation Meeting. The only thing I've seen but after E3 I'm not trusting or believing any insider and their bullshit. lol

I'm pretty sure Rockstar has never just dropped an trailer for an unannounced game. There would be hints and than a countdown for a trailer. As for this event it's doubtful. the only given game announcements would be from 1st party or Deep down.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rockstar were wheeled out to show improved visuals for GTA V or possibly a next gen remake of RDR, but can't imagine it would be a new game (I would love to be proved wrong).

GTAV getting NEO stuff makes way more sense then any new game being revealed.

"Games that still sell well"...

Hopefully those will not be the only ones. Sony 1st/2nd party need to make more effort than the rest. I would like for Neo not only to be console that plays new games better, but that it gives older customers more reasons to upgrade.

If they release Neo and DON'T fix Until Dawn performance...

I've been holding off on playing Until Dawn until the Neo comes out with the hope that they will patch it to run with a stable framerate. So I'm right there with you.

What is Support Sunset: spring 2017?

Just my interpretation that it means the prototype dev and test kits are returned to Sony by that date. Devs are about to receive the final mass produced dev and test kits, apparently.

Possibly these prototypes are loaned to devs and then when the final ones become available devs have to purchase them?

Maybe KennyLinder or a dev could give more details?

Edit: I believe dev kits are registered online with DevNet and once support for the dev kits end they basically become useless? This is just based on seeing ebay listings of dev kits for sale, though!

Kenny seemed to be saying he didn't know if the kits he was getting were actually final? Or at least, he couldn't confirm there's no "last minute" bump?

Do we have any idea where he works?

Point is, even the internal teams were surprised by 8GB. Osiris says everything is silent since the post-E3 update, so I guess they want no more hints given. /shrug

Not sure of the technicalities but I think it has been said that going to 12GB would require a 384bit bus and therefore would need to go 16GB? I think it more likely the amount of RAM available for games (currently 5.5GB for Neo mode) would be increased if possible than adding another 8GB of GDDR5?

So… doubly no longer with Sony? :D <3

Yeah, I suppose the specs are surely concrete now given Andy House's comments about an Apple style rollout for Neo.

They could prob tweak the clocks to push it beyond 4.2 TFlops but its surely being mass produced as we speak or very close to that stage.

Sony probably don't give a crap about Scorpio beyond a ''that's nice'' line of thinking - no matter how Xbox position it, the hardcore fans who stayed loyal throughout the disastrous launch of Xbox One will migrate (or some impatient ones may jump to Neo) but the Playstation brand will just annihilate it across the globe.

With huge digital download libraries, snowball friend effect, countless PS Plus titles (subjective quality), a very compelling lineup of existing and future exclusives reaching into 2017and an almost certainly cheaper pricepoint to boot, the vast majority of the 40 million+ PS4 owners will continue to be tied in the Playstation ecosystem either by staying the course with base PS4 or migrating to Neo and beyond.

The Xbox brand has little to no mindshare outside of UK/US and Playstation will just keep eating the vast majority of the worldwide hardware marketshare.

Hopefully Xbox does get a shot in the arm with Scorpio and the same for Nintendo with NX - a successful hardware industry is good for all players.

Any chance we'll see more God of War at this meeting or will it be all about Neo?

Comparisons of Neo mode to base PS4 performance of games should be expected. Not sure if a game as far away from release as God Of War will be shown. Upcoming games Horizon Zero Dawn and GT Sport should be there.

Gonna be interesting to see how they present the Neo as a great upgrade or system to purchase without making owners of the base model feel bad.

I expect it to be centered around already released titles and near future games (like those releasing by the end of the year). That way they can still surprise people with Neo versions of games at future shows. Like seeing Horizon running on Neo for the first time at PSX.

The kits we are getting are 100% final. However, nobody knows if there has been any kind of spec bump. There is no information on such a change on DevNet. In all honesty, any kind of change now would be most likely be slight clock changes. Unless, of course, Sony announce the change at the event next month.

A Playstation Meeting event is extremely rare and of huge significance to the brand as a whole, and I highly doubt Sony will not come out firing on every cylinder to boost momentum around Playstation Neo.

I could see Sony showcasing stage demos of titles such as Horizon, and maybe sprinkling in some new announcements - wasn't Sucker Punch supposedly working on something graphically demanding.

Red Dead seems like a lock for this show.

I've accepted I'll never see the best game of the last ten years - Bloodborne - on PC. That sucks; but I understand.

But the things I would do for a 1080p/60fps version. I know we'll never get it, but man do I keep hoping.

Why is this so hard to believe? Surely Neo could hit that with ease?

Neo should make that possible.

It would probably still have From's trademark frame pacing issues even after a Neo patch!

True, but doesn't a higher framerate reduce the impact of the frame pacing?

He just read the post that was posted here & made a video of it

Out of curiosity, in your opinion, what would a jump from 1.8 - 4.2 TFlops result in if a title on Neo was locked to 1080p instead of jumping for 4K or somewhere in between?

I mean like instead of jumping for better resolution, they put the power solely for increased graphical quality - better draw distance, higher quality textures, physics?

Would the jump be noticeable from a base PS4 given the considerable increase in GPU power?

Everything on the hardware front has been as silent as the grave. Lots of dev talk about their games and what will and won't or can't be done. Should be a very interesting reveal I for one am very excited to see how long sony sticks to their guns with the whole no exclusive features bit, or what they would even consider features. A certain already released game was supposed to have much more deformation and destruction. Their engine does allow it ps4s power does not. Neo might free up enough resources to activate this feature, would that be allowed?

Also don't expect every old game to be patched you'll only be setting yourselves up to be disappointed. Games that still sell well like GTAV and 1st party games have the best chance of being touched up from what I am hearing.

Would be really happy if Neo got patches for GTA V, Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3 (would be kewl to see DS3 DLC running on Neo at TGS) and of course Uncharted 4.

I'm not expecting old games like Killzone Shadow Fall, BF4, The Order 1886, Drive Club or Bloodborne to get patched.

You should have accepted exclusivity since the moment it was announced that that was a 2nd party project.

As for 1080p60, there is still a chance.

While it's true that the event is rare, that's largely because it's more of a hardware showcase than an actual games showcase. Look back at the PS4 unveiling PS Meeting and they really didn't show their hand in terms of the games they had. I think we'll see something similar to that. Obviously more of a focus on games this time around since they need to show improvements, but I don't expect them to show everything they have. Just this year alone they have Gran Turismo Sport, The Last Guardian, and Gravity Rush 2 from a first party standpoint. Plus they have VR titles. Then third games like FFXV, Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Watch_Dogs 2, Infinite Warfare, Mafia 3 etc. And you of course have already released games that would be a good showcase for improvements. So they really don't need to show their 2017 and beyond slate at the event.

While I initially thought they'd make new game announcements, I really wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see any. They have so many games that they could show so new announcements may not be necessary. But then again, maybe they'd want to end on a big highnote, and a new Rockstar game would obviously do that.

God of War is supposed to take full advantage of NEO's better specs (according to Osiris initial leak).
Maybe they show a couple of scenes of the GOW reveal just running on NEO for a comparison

Well that sucks if true, but Digital Foundry seemed to believe it was possible in a video they made quite a while back when those specs first leaked.

I believe with a slightly overclocked CPU 2.4 2.8 Ghz and an RX480 equivalent should be enough for solid 1080p / 60fps gaming.

Agreed. I think it'll be focused on already released games to show improvements, some extra showcases for fall 2016 titles, and maybe a look at Horizon since that's not long after the holidays.

/nod That's what I figured, but thanks for clarifying. <3

I would say if a dev took an already solid 1080/30 game...and decided to use all of the extra power for eye candy...kept the res and framerate identical

Side by side, I would wager the differences will be DRASTIC...you're talking over 2x the power in the GPU, with an up clocked CPU...

The big question right now seems to be how much power the reconstruction Sony is pushing will take. It could be substantial or it could only be a bit more than the resolutions the standard PS4 is pushing. If it's relatively lightweight, we could see a huge improvement in both image quality and visuals. Not getting my hopes too high for that though.

That's true...Sony seems to think reconstruction is the way to go, I simply worry about artifacts during fast motion coming from not truly native rendering..

If I'm a Rockstar, or dice, or one of the CoD teams...I'm rocking 1080p and dialing up the effects to 11...morw foliage, better shadows, better lighting, partial effects, draw distqnces, etc...personally i think that's the way to sell this thing...

People will notice that in a side by shot way before they pick apart the difference between 1080p and 1440p
