Reddit Compiles Definitive List of All NMS Missing Features/False Marketing +Sources

LOL!

Okay, here's the best I could do quickly on the planet I was last saved in. It isn't extremely clear, given the distance however if you watch the right side of the video, you see one of the creatures go over and eat the smaller one, and since I'm looking through the visor, it shows the green dot (meaning discovered) and then it disappear after it's eaten.

Link here, 9MB WEBM

Interesting - I've seen similar behavior, but the body has always been left behind. Thing is I could see this going either way, since the animations in this game are clearly super limited, so I could absolutely see "eating" really being as simple as despawning dead creatures after they're attacked.

Either way though, I think the fact we're scrutinizing this so heavily is proof enough that if it is an actual AI routine, it certainly isn't a common one.

This is absolutely true: games do change during development. Funny thing though, plenty of people have been criticizing the game "for what it is" and have been shouted down for expecting too much, so forgive me if I sip a little tea over this game's current release state.

I think shutting down people for that is unreasonable and I do understand saying "we expected because they told us to expect".

And it sucks that the things you were expecting aren't in the final game for one reason or another but I don't think going through three years of statements and name calling serves any purpose.

There's a lot of drama being created around this that, altought I can see where it comes from, it's a bit over the top.

That's... substantial. And the fact that those "pillars" trailers are using materials that are not representative of the game... sheesh.

Things change during development. It happens.

Judge the game for what it is now. Not everything is a conspiracy. It's just a game.

"This elixir doesn't cure cancer!"
"Things changed during R&D. Judge it based on the final product, not how it was marketed."
"But it's just exspensive off-brand aspirin."
"But we also said it cures cancer at one point."

... and people doubted and berated us in the "You can't see other players in NMS" thread. (we also talked about other things such as the skybox-galaxies and so on). People didn't want to see it.

It's truly baffling how Murray got away with promising all these crazy things right up until release. Hell, even after release he tweeted deliberate misinformation, alluding to meetings of players etc.

Extremely shady shit and the backlash is completely warranted.

The effort people put into this stuff always amazes me.

The game might not have turned out exactly like people wanted but pairing the team that worked their asses off to make this passion project come to life as liars and worse is just sad.
When they are blatantly lying, then they can be called liars. They will have to deal with it and so will you.

Don't overpromise and don't lie to your customers. Period.

But the cut content would be more interrelated in the code than some offshoot that was never meant to be. Like if the cut content was truly removed, they would have had to have gone into a lot of files to remove them and make sure it doesn't cause any problems as well.

It all depends on the type of content being cut.

Like cutting planet rotation isn't exactly "content" per se...there's a variable for "rotation speed" and instead of being 1.5 units to 9 units you change it to 0 units to 0 units. No evidence left in the game files anywhere. That sort of thing.

The usual defenders of this game on /NoMansSkyTheGame Subreddit is kinda shocked with the list and a lot of em has changed their stance. They want some answers lol

No, that's fair, and I wish that stuff would have been more clearly stated as well. I don't want to seem like I'm hand waving omissions, because I'm not and think it sucks that a lot of that stuff isn't there, it's just people use such... vitriolic language

No I agree, people always go overboard, look at the delay of the game for example. There's no excuse for that, even if it's "I was just kidding!"

And I don't consider you one of the hand wavers.

It's people that come into the thread and are like "Who cares, I'm enjoying the game" or "Millions of people are enjoying it so it doesn't matter"

It's like, hey good for you, but some of us care about this stuff.

I have seen this too. It happens if carnivores are close to herbivores. The game also has other animal AI such as herding(some stay in groups) and parenting (often seeing smaller, younger animals next to their parents)

"The chance of curing cancer is pretty much zero"

But yes, he has been avoiding most questions regarding the content which at first, we thought were spoilers but as the game are now in the hands of thousands of people, a lot of these aren't showing.

Not surprised at all the game was a mess, tiny team and the difference in scope from their last game was insane.

We are talking about video games here. If things aren't there just don't buy it.

To be fair, at that point neither parts knew for sure. People were just guessing at one point. I dont think it was until later that it was proven that it wasnt possible, when it was pointed out that the game stopped when pausing.

Read the op
I did check through the list on Reddit, but i dont think i saw anything that i would really call unbelieveable there. I guess you ment it with a bit of exaggeration, but i think most (if not all) of those things were planned or added in the game at one time. Nothing that really seems impossible to implement there, from what i know. Several of those things can probably be added through patching later on as well without too much work if i should guess.

Sure, but it would show up when datamining would it not? I haven't been keeping track of the datamining process but it has yet to show up when I last checked.

Sorry if all this has been said ect. I'm just adding in my opinion!

Honestly, so what? It had a long development pipeline and things shift and change all the time, put on that there were only a dozen so employees and THEY were doing most of their own PR, you are going to get this sort of thing.

It kind of comes down to what the game is and what they put on their website, if this was literally a list they released to, "This is 100% what our game has" and it had none of that, then I could see the outcry and rage on "false advertising", but it is just a really down to earth dude excited about the thing he is working on.

And at some point, if you invested all your stock into purchasing the game based on some random quotes from the creator then maybe it's a personal issue you should reflect on? Especially a game like this that was celebrated with the cliche saying of, "WHAT DO YOU EVEN DOOO?", people are surprised that the question was answered with "not much yet"?

Plus it's 2016, this stuff still has time to develop and grow. And what is there is very enjoyable for me at the moment. I mean, maybe I'm too rational about all this, but it is still there game. You can take one day to research what is if you were that concerned.

It doesn't take much time to just go to the website before purchasing:

With all that said, I can understand people not being high on this, especially with the overwhelming hype that was generated through the community. But it is what it is! I'm enjoying it immensely! Can't wait for more.

"Oh no I have cancer... I remember hearing some guy talk about some medicine that could potentially cure cancer. He said it a year or so ago though... should I look into it and see if it actually works? Nah, I'm just gonna buy it and use it!"

But like others said... it is a game. And there is still potential of lots more being added.

I'm actually surprised people have that much time on their hands. I barely find time to browse gaf once a day and people are compiling missing features in a video game........not to mention finding the time to play the game for so many hours before compiling this (I'm assuming he played a lot to confirm all that) :o

You, a person in a No Man's Sky thread, on a large gaming forum, are surprised people have a lot of time on their hands?

I want a refund based on how terribly the game runs on my pc. If it didn't run so poorly I might be pissed about all this shit that they haven't delivered on yet. I expect that most of the promised features to make it in eventually. They probably should have gone for the minecraft style soft year long beta launch.

Expect some of these missing systems to appear as updates/DLC in the next year. If they even decide to put them back in.

I think Sean's reach was just beyond his grasp. Stuff just didn't work out for whatever reason and they had to pull it out pretty close to launch. Could be that it just wasn't finished, or that they hit some big hurtles with balance or performance issues.

Good example of how to not do PR for your constantly changing game.

I didn't really think too much about it until someone in that thread started to talk to me about their practices on Joe Danger. really shady stuff.

The thing is that people don't know what to expect and when you get these tidbits of information from the man himself in interviews, it sets a certain expectation.

I mean seriously, look at the trailers before the four official ones last month and the ones from before. They look nothing alike, sure I understand as the cycle goes along, things don't always pan out. But you don't just keep quiet about it either.

The game has been kept under wraps over it's development that people haven't seen much.

Ive seen the "natives" chase each other a few times. Though as also mentioned on other occasions totally ignore the other species. So not really sure what triggers it. Wonder if the AI flags have to do with the "stats" the lifeforms have when you scan them. So if X matches Y it will attack or X vs Z will ignore. For a simple example.

That is of course if those stats represent actual flags the game uses with the creature AI...

I really just thought this game was disappointing and too simple.

Then I saw the Crowb cat video and this was straight up deception. It really harms my opinion of hello games and also of Sony for not being more up front about the game they were pushing so heavily and featuring in their press conferences.

Shawn murray and his people are going to get fucking paid on those promises though and none of this will matter. Thats business, I guess.

Glad I waited for steam and was able to get my refund.

except that very fucking variable...

Tell that to the PC folks in the last couple of days

That'll be fixed, Sonic 06 won't be. There were no good versions of Sonic 06, PS4 version of No Man's Sky was fine, the PC version will be fine. If, in 10 years, it's still not fixed, then it's as bad as Sonic 06.

My thought on the so what:

I think at this point the root of the problem isnt the flip-flopping, mis-direction, "things change", or "But they are a small studio"

Sure those are the arguments various consumers are using to make their points/arguments, but as a whole, NMS consumer and the potential consumer base are polarized.

Its the lack of comment or a statement from Hello Games on the matter thats feeding this frenzy.

Leaving their consumers to rely on past statements is the root problem here, no matter how one feels, supportive or spurn, because these statements are all over the place.

For the good of the franchise and studio I think they need to come out with a definitive statement, directly addressing the communities concerns

What I feel needs to bee done is a direct statement from Hello Games, not through an interview, that both directly address past statements, and in unequivocal terms address their road map

Gamers are the freaking worst. The industry seems like hell to work in and the consumers only exacerbate that.
