LOL.

I mean, she may be VERY GOOD at her job, selling u something.

'Hey MS, wanna hire me? I managed to sell a few tens/hundreds thousand units of this steaming diarrhea bucket 💩🪣 Sony dropped on my desk that almost everyone could clearly see from before the get go it was puke fountain inducing and extremely nasty, and almost everyone was up in arms against it, and we released it stillborn to die and dry in the sun. If that doesn't speak volumes about my quality as a marketer, I don't know what would' 🤷🏼

there is a solid argument that she did a good job, this thing had loads of stuff planned based on its promise and thats exactly what her job was.

its not her fault the game was a piece of shit.

Presenting the game as a cheap Guardians of the Galaxy knock-off was her job. The messaging and communication around the game were abysmal, too. It's a level of marketing incompetence similar to the Halo Infinite reveal.

Sorry let me rephrase is; people need to realize the entire US AAA machine is one giant circle jerk. Does that pass your sniff test? Not gonna get into the semantics of developers vs marketers in regards to the success of a AAA game.

Experienced people get hired into roles that require experience. It’s probably the exact same in your own field. It’s the same in every field.

Facts speak louder than words and resumes. We don't know about her competency?? are you fucking kidding me?? Concord is the biggest flop in gaming history and we don't know about the competency of their MARKETING MANAGER?? A game that didn't catch any attention from the first reveal??? Who do you think is responsible for that??

The number one responsibility of a marketing manager is to present a compelling product, and get people interested.

Yeah, she did a great job.

You people are fucking ridiculous.

None of that had a major impact on the failure of the game. It had a closed and open beta and both failed to resonate with players. It was largely the gameplay portion (and the character design) that let it down, not the marketing.

Concord marketing would also have been signed off and approved by overall PlayStation marketing leads, people who she reports to.

I thought anyone from concord was considered too toxic to touch... unless you're intentionally trying to kill all of Xbox. I do believe that, I see all the dummies being sent to work at xbox. Plus all of Azure got new offices, and xbox people got sent to the shithole. All this on top of the Ghostbusters actress being the Chief of Staff over there. Really seems like Microsoft is poisoning the entirety of Xbox and justifying its kill off. Oh well, sucks to be an xbox fan

Mod Edit: The misleading title has been fixed.
What influence does a marketing director have on a game? She could have just been in charge of trying to position it on Steam or something. Directors are just managers of managers who get promoted, not the sole voice of anything.

What about the name "Concord"? That is marketing. I can't think of a more boring name for a game that should look exciting. Even the color palette is wrong. Nothing in the very first showing (before presenting the awful characters) made people the least intrigued.

By your logic, ‘Destiny’ should have flopped.

Not everything has to be named “Quasihomonculus V: Nexus of Chaos” to be exciting.

The name has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Agreed especially in todays age with social media naming means nothing.

I remember an interview with Morgan Freeman and he said the movie The Shawshank Redemption (one of my all time favorites) did not do well at the box office and they felt it was because people had a hard time remembering the name when it came to word of mouth

Sorry side story with nothing to do with topic :)

One of the least surprising thing about these individuals, is they fail upwards. Almost like merit was never a criteria.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
It’s a marketing person who had nothing to do with making the biggest gaming flop in history

Their job is to sell you people on a pile of shit and with how some still to this day defend that game I would say they did a decent job of it

Something associated with Concord did a good job ...

Ouch.... quite a demotion.

Director of marketing at a PlayStation studio to a lowly "snr product marketing mgr" at 343 - an Xbox studio. I mean, that's a title an intern gets after 6 months.

But, it is just in time to push Halo on to PS, so perhaps the contacts they had at PS will make that release smoother for 343.

EDIT - Cat helmets - that's the level a snr product marketing manager works at in 343? Fuck, maybe Sony will cancel Halo on PS and it's not even their game.

Stuff fails all the time big or small.
Doesnt make one unemployable. Unless you go and get in trouble with the law. Case by case and obviously this seems like a step down.

I just watched Unfrosted on Netflix.
It's a goofy comedy about decade's old products.
At one point they bring in a Madmen style advertising high pressure pitch to try and sell Pop Tarts.
My wife was laughing, I was not. I could only think of the sad world of games advertising.

I mean, people lose a job, and they get hired in a new one, that's how it goes.

I get she worked on Concord, but she didn't have anything to do with its colossal failings. She helped make people interested in it, and considering the final product I think she did a great job.

Probably a good fit. This person managed to convince at least 5 people to buy Concord, which is an incredible feat.

Yeah, I came in to say this. all jokes aside about the state of concord, on the marketing side it was set up for success better than any new franchise. It's not easy to wrangle all that and get it off the ground, and that's what her job was day to day.

She wasn't responsible for the game being a turd, or shit character design decisions, or anything related to live service, or sweet baby.... etc etc.

You cant make this shit up. Not that hiring ex concord devs is bad per se. But the marketing guy? From the biggest flop in history?

There's something really disturbing about these threads.. Some weirdo's on here are much too quick to assume someone's competency without knowing anything about them bar their last job where they were one of hundreds of people on a project.

Concord would have been a huge project with so many people on board with budgets dictated at the highest level. Games take so long to make with them pivoting in different directions as the market shifts, pretty sure most people in game development have worked on at least one failure and it probably was not their fault.
There used to be a saying "that guy could sell snow to eskimos". Meaning, of course, that the salesman/marketer is SO GOOD they could sell a product to people that is effectively worthless. But Concord was like snow to eskimos (gamers) and she couldn't sell shit, so it's not just she pulled a hail mary or anything.

But she undoubtedly has contacts they want and probably came cheap for her level of experience.

In a MARKETING role. Not a DEVLOPMENT/PROJECT MGMT role.
It's the same people responsible for the hiring process.
Small hint: At companies like that, it's not the developers who decide who becomes another developr - that would be reasonable and therefore, it's not done.

Also: The marketing for Concord was top notch, right? Right?!...

Halo is dead and they though:
"What is better than a franchise being dead?"
"Being double dead?"
"No, Concord levels of dead"
