Rez Infinite Gets a Physical Release, Vinyl Soundtrack, Art Book, T-Shirt & More

$40? How much is the digital copy? That seems like quite a lot considering companies like Sodesco and Rising Star can put out retail releases of indie titles for $19.99, and that most LimitedRunGames release are $24.99. If the digital version is close to $40 then that makes sense, but assuming it ends up being ~$20 this is just iam8bit overcharging :/.

Still, a physical version of Rez is really tempting. Going to have to think this one over.

Just as an FYI, I just ordered a brand new 3xLP album for $20 last week (180g, colored vinyl, special packaging).

And the record label provided a movie sized poster and a CD version of an upcoming vinyl release of theirs for free.

iam8bit's pricing is CRIMINAL.

A 13-LP giant box with a massive book of music legend David Bowie goes for $225:

Boris' Pink, a 3-LP with bonus features and unique die-cut packaging, is going for $37.99, and it's considered expensive as hell:

And people are trying to justify $75/$85 for this?

Almost no record label charges iam8bit prices, and none that I'm aware of are so terrible with customer service like they are. Total false equivalence going on in this thread. They charge extra-premium prices for often uneven-quality products, and have terrible customer service. This has been the overwhelming experience of literally everyone in the videogame soundtracks on vinyl thread.

That vinyl is fucking expensive as hell. I want it, but I don't think I can justify that.

Might still pick up the physical disk though.

Dream put out a nice double sided LP of their new record, very limited run. $35.
We're going to have to pay for shipping from the US and probably customs charges.

I am so sour right now.
You'd probably be better off having it mailed to a US friend then getting it remailed as a gift unless iam8bit pre-pay the customs. Definitely out from my end.

I want all of these, but the prices.... Also, I wish the retrospective book was separated from the vinyl (I don't have much use for those).

I'll probably settle for the game and a pin :P

Yeah, I'm second guessing my purchase of this big time. $40 seems like massive overkill. I'd be pretty surprised if the PSN version is more than $20.

I got an email back from iam8bit: orders from the UK store are shipped from the UK. They really should update their FAQ to reflect this!!

Phew, feeling a lot better about this.

I have more details that should probably go in the OP:

The US and UK stores are getting separate allocations and the print run will depend on the demand.

I am really confident about this now! It's not going to be a LRG situation.

Such a bummer about iam8bit's reputation and questionable product quality.

Are their vinyl's bad? That would be a shame because some of them look so damn pretty and there are some good soundtracks available.

But yeah $75 for a vinyl game soundtrack is insane.

I know Data Discs did some old 16-bit soundtracks. Is anyone else doing modern game soundtracks on vinyl, with quality mastering and nice artwork?

If shipping doesn't break the bank I think I'll give them a try. Guess I'll have a few weeks to think about it

Brave Wave did a fantastic job with Street Fighter II and are doing Shovel Knight next.

As you mentioned, all of the Data Discs releases are great.

iam8bit's vinyl are not bad, they are just kinda mediocre as far as sound goes (from the ones I have so far -- Banjo Kazooie was underwhelming, the track choices on the Uncharted collection was bad, but sound was good, but Journey despite being a picture disc was pretty great), and the packaging quality is extremely uneven -- all with higher prices than literally anyone else in the vinyl market, videogame or not.

Did you not read through the history of those tweets? They replaced his vinyl at no charge and have designed new packaging for media mail. They are also putting notices on the option so people realize it can be bad for fragile purchases. That is actually an example of them being a good company.
Wrong.

Wrong.

Wrong.

They only replaced his vinyl after it blew up on Twitter (and the customer service rep actually shamed him in their eMail reply for doing so).

Also, media mail is 100% fine for vinyl. Records don't magically warp in the mail because they sensed it was a cheaper shipping method.

Thankfully, their records are generally considered good.

As far as "looking pretty," keep in mind that picture discs can have significant surface noise over standard vinyl. If you are concerned about quality, you will need to get the standard colored vinyl.

The art book comes with the vinyl, right? I can easily see a huge art book cost $30 by itself so the price maybe isn't too far off?

Probably in for the physical copy of the game, although some of these comments are worrying me.

As for the soundtrack, if it's remastered did they finally get the sample clearance for Fear? And will it be available for us non-vinyl listeners in some format?

They're charging $75 for a 2xLP, which would normally be $15-30.

OK yeah that is insane. I actually thought the $75 was for both the game and vinyl!

They're probably sticking that price tag on it because they know there's enough hardcore Rez fans that will pay it. Greedy.

One would hope so... if they didn't, then they haven't done their job properly and the soundtrack will have to be considered incomplete.

It's not a huge artbook, it's a book stuck to the vinyl gatefold innards. It's been done hundreds of times before (for half the price):

I really just want them to release the soundtrack digitally one of these days. I haven't found anywhere to buy it online, like high quality. Anyone know where I could get it?

Also, it would be nice to have Rez HD added to the backwards compatibility list for Xbox One. Love Rez so much.

No they were responding to his initial question. We have no clue what he was asking them since he didn't post that. Them responding about insurance was probably because he asked if they had insured the shipment. Seems like the made everything right for the customer, took responsibility, and added extra protection for future shipments.

Ugh.

Here is my initial question.

"I received my ratchet & clank soundtrack, and it looks great! But the vinyl is warped :( Anything you can do? I've received several other orders from you guys in the past and never had an issue. Let me know what you need from me. Thanks."

Then, they responded with what you saw, which amounts to TFB.

Then I took to Twitter (after a brief stop here), and they shrugged it off again there, as you can see, and only after it started catching fire there did they backtrack. So good on them for that, but let's not get it twisted.

I can't believe this needs clearing up.

They took care of me very well when I asked about a shipping cost being off, refunding me the difference really quickly. $75 is a lot! But that packaging and book make a compelling argument as well. Wish it came with a code for the game.

no option for an 180gram all black pressing? i guess the picture discs is as close as we'll get. no way i'm dropping $75 for a clear color pressing, regardless of how cool it looks.

purchasing this really goes against my code but whatever, i'm a complete whore when it comes to rez.

I stand corrected sorry for the shit you went through.

if you care about sound quality I would advise against picture discs

There is usually no discernible loss in sound quality from a clear pressing if it's done right.

The picture disc is much, much more likely to have lower sound quality.

Yeah I know - sorry I was talking about all the packaging itself. I actually didn't notice all the colored vinyl. I would want a nice looking book and a cool label but just regular old black vinyl.

You know, for when I actually buy a turntable someday...

I would love to skip this because of the seller but can't because of Rez. Why couldn't LRG have gotten this. :c

If what was being said a few weeks ago was about Rez, they tried, but apparently the developer (or publisher, can't remember) already had a relationship with iam8bit so it was easier to go with them.

I can't support this company anymore. They really are trying to fuck the fans with there extravagant prices. And I'm a big fan of Rez too.

Colored vinyl is 99% the audio quality of black vinyl (and even that's debatable, it is probably closer to, if not just, 100%).

The complaints about iam8bit are disconcerting, but I'm still picking up that limited vinyl and the physical release. I love Rez too much not to.

Any idea what the sizing is like on their shirts? I'm thinking about picking up the Phil Fish designed one. I like the other one, but not a fan of foil printing.

How do you know who decided on the pricing? By that I mean iam8bit vs. the developers who probably have to pay a lot in licensing.

EDIT: For clarification, I posted this so people could see shipping options and plan for the expense. I didn't intend people to buy the game early. I'm removing the post.
