no chill

They have been formally indicted for false communication of a crime. Charges of destruction of private property have been dropped.

Bad outcome.

Edit: Just Lochte and Feigen.

Lochte ain't even in the country so I doubt he cares too much

False communication of a crime. They claimed they were robbed by people pretending to be police, but they were actually extorted from by security guards pretending to be police. 25 to life, yo.

Actually Brazil can file a complaint to the US and he could do community service if they are willing to commute. It happened before.

So they took the other 2 swimmers off the flight so they could question them only to formally charge Lochte and Feigen who are both out of the country. Fantastic use of police resources.

Most likely they didn't charge the other two because they recanted their story and said it was all a lie.

I take it there is no evidence of property destruction if they declined to charge them with that. So, if that's the case, why were they taken at gunpoint until they handed over the cash?

You have to wait to get enough information to charge people. Seems pretty straightforward.

So the Brazilian police doing their job is a waste of police resources now?

What is this thread.

So according to Sky the two guys' passports are still being held.

This show is going to be dragged out.

Not to mention the Feigen great escape saga.

They made a false report, it is a crime, but 2 of the 4 parties were already out of the country and the other 2 were on the way out. I would be quite annoyed if i was pulled off a plane because a colleague made a false report to the police and had already left the country. This whole process accomplished nothing.

Feigen is not.

This changes things. Though i suspect he will pay the fine and then fly home.

I knew someone who falsified a police report here in the US. Pretty much all he had to do was like 50 hours of community service and pay a fine. He failed to do both and did 2 weeks in jail.

Now I have no idea what happened, but it seems like both sides have blame here but no one wants to admit anything except blame the other side.

I can see both sides of it. Maybe the police went a bit overboard in taking the guys off the plane. But if Ryan didn't say ANYTHING. This would have blown over and we probably wouldn't have known shit about this.

but isn't part of the argument that Lochte and co never filed a police report?

You would be annoyed? So what?
Am I missing something here?

The story does not really add up. Why would the security guards just let them go for a small sum of money? Creating a physical altercation and pulling a gun on them for something they don't even care about. Not going to pretend to know what Brazilian law is like, but in most countries the gas station would be the one in hot water. The vandalism is its own crime, but it is impossible to ignore that what happened was essentially a robbery. It is unlikely the charges related to falsifying information would even hold water, given that the language barrier could easily be given as a reason these events were misinterpreted.

See? I thought they did. I don't even fucking know.

i can't keep up with the developments anymore. i was informed quite a few pages back that he went to the media but never filed any formal police report. it seemed like he said some shit went down, its in the past and im done with it, im going home. at this point i'm not even sure, there are so many conflicting reports and stories to this

As I see it from here, Lochte is a lying douchebag and some people continue trashing the poorer country because it doesn't just accept the shaming.

What Ryan Lochte has done is absolutely abhorrent. He will most likely need to flee the United States to escape extradition.

Brazil's reputation as a safe place for tourists has been forever tarnished. They need to throw the book at him and fine him the maximum amount allowed, possibly even make him do community service for a week or two.
