And Flash Thompson is Latino now right?

Man, I'm from South America and even I am fucking perplexed at what they are doing with Spider Man's roots on this movie.

They're making his classmates look like the population of the city he lives in. This really isn't that complicated.

Is...is the internet going to survive this?

Shes not bllack so theyll kick and scream especially if her hair isnt red but itll survive and the movie might turn out great given marvels track record. Personally shed look better without the red hair, unless being ginger was intgral to maryjane who gives a shit?

Those are physical traits. What about the character? The actual character of Mary Jane Watson?

Or do you feel that doesn't matter?

It's difficult to tell until we have an idea of what Disney wants MJ to be, she can be useful for Peter or totally uninteresting/useless as many women characters in those type of movies, too early to tell but I don't really care about the character itself that much, never been a fan of her personality.

Honestly, I feel like Zendaya could pull off any hair color.

She once wore a blonde wig for some magazine cover and she looked great.

Yeah that would be a cool movie, this is a Spider Man movie though?

Spidermans nyc isnt diverse? Because its the same universe as the netflix shows and those have a very diverse cast.

Ill pretend to ignore your implications on the count of you being daft.

Is MJ even Peter's girl in the comics anymore? I remember that One More Day mumbo jumbo completely broke them up.

"Thanks", Joe Quesada.

Read the name as Zenyatta and was confused. Don't know Zendaya but given the photos here, she seems to be pretty kewl? MJ is supposed to be a supermodel and this girl fits visually for that. She might not be red headed but eh, that's not something that should break the movie.

"Hey Tiger, you just hit the jack- DIE DIE DIE" I know Zenyatta isn't Reaper but still!

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
I've been creeping on Twitter since Mary-Jane is trending, and the response is overwhelmingly positive. Marvel and DC will be taking casting advice from Black Twitter from now on. All your favorite love interests are dark skinned. Catch the fever.

The MCU is different enough from the tradional comics that this doesn't bother me....except for the hair. MJ needs red hair and Zendaya having a red streak won't count.

...

What?

I'll help reiterate.

Casting white people instead of Asians in Shyamalan's The Last Airbender (2010) is comparable to casting a mixed woman instead of a white woman in Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

Because right now there are a metric fuck fuckity fuckton of Asian leads in American movies, but practically no white female love interests. It's a real shame. I can see where he's coming from.

Neat. Obviously "Michelle" was just a cover. It was either Mary Jane or Felicia Hardy. Felicia Hardy would have been interesting too. I hope they'll still explore the character. Anyway, I wonder how they'll get around Zendaya not being a natural redhead. I guess she'll just color it and that will be a "thing" in-universe.

Interestingly enough her role supposedly isn't that prominent in the first movie, but will get more so as the series develops. I wonder if she'll be the main love interest in Homecoming or if that role will fall to Liz Allan like in Spectacular, or someone else.

The first is worse. We're trying to get people past the physical bullshit.

Thanks for answering!

In agreement. The truth is these are characters in an adaptation, and as such, are subject to the whims of the film/TV creators.

As another example, Scarlet Witch in the MCU has little connection to her comic counterpart. She's a whole new character with a familiar name. What I find surprising is many are fine with that, assuming they are purists in that regard.

Any lines out there? Some adaptation has already crossed it, many to great accolades.

I wish MJ was a red head and I'm perplexed about the casting of Flash, but living through the great Heath Ledger Joker Wars of 2006 gave me more perspective on the issue. That said, I get those who may have issues with it for various reasons. One poster early on expressed that as a redhead, they keenly felt the loss of a redheaded character. I can get that.

Yeah that would be a cool movie, this is a Spider Man movie though?

Do you feel all of the characters in previous Spider-Man adaptation were correct mirrors of their comic counterparts?

Wait this is a documentary movie now?

It is neither the comic nor a documentary. It is an adaptation.

Her roles in her shows give her that sort of personality MJ has, funny thing her first show was co staring Bella Thorne that looks like your classic MJ.

Give it a couple decades and we're gonna have a #OscarsSoBlack on our hands.
