We already have two very recent Spidermen, they need to take a fresh approach to this overdone story. I welcome this new Spiderman.

I think people are making this discussion really unnecessarily toxic. Every actress to play MJ so far has had to dye her hair red. The vast majority of posters here seem to be fine with or even pleased with the casting choice, so why is it suddenly controversial to want red dye?

Isn't the red hair (well, ginger) typically natural for the character? I was assuming that was why people thought there was some diet racism going on.

same amount of times Ben Reily did anything relevant besides dying

You mean aside from successfully defending the Marvel Universe in the greatest universe shaking event of all time?

I guess Peter was also there. Ya know. Taking pictures and stuff.

Its the most important thing to people right now because it's the only details we have about her. We have no idea what her character is going to be like in the movie, so we can't very well discuss any of her character traits because we have zero idea what her performance is like. We do however, have the details of what sje looks like, and she's missing what makes the character visually memorable. So that's what we are discussing.

Seriously, it's not that hard to figure out if you pay attention.

It's like she's not even white anymore, and yet people need the hair to still be red. It makes zero sense, why are you OK with one character trait being completely changed, and yet this other thing is a necessity? Be consistent.

Sounds neat. Now that I think about it, besides Robbie at the Bugle I can't really think of any black characters in early Spidey mythos, so it's nice to see a little diversity.

I'm gonna hop on the red hair bandwagon. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's an iconic part of her character I think. That and "Face it Tiger", and I'll be happy.

Also "two individuals close to the project" should be taken with a grain of salt. Zendaya is goddamn awesome but... I dunno man. I was pretty sure she was gonna be Silk.

Well like I just pointed out, there has never been an MJ actress with natural red hair. I don't speak for everyone but from what I've seen, with a few obnoxious exceptions, most of us just want the dye. I like Zendaya a lot actually. I think she'll do great.

It really doesn't even have to be natural in the context of the film, she can discover red dye at the end and that would be splendid.

Who knows? They might actually write an MJ that was worth more than being a trophy in the films. Even with being a bone between two superhero dogs, she's actually self sufficient in the books, kind of.

She doesn't have red hair in that post of mine you're quoting.

EDIT: now I'm just staring at that gif again
I was talking about the 'God damn that woman is hotttttt' stuff. Not just you but others. I get you bro, she's sexy, but it just feels a little eye-roll worthy, no? But I don't think it's wrong to post stuff like this in a role annoucement, just feels 'bro-y'?

Lol, it didn't bother me that much but now I wrote a paragraph. Ah the internet.

I know, but it was made to look natural is my point. I can see where they're coming from if that's the case.

I do agree with you otherwise.

Edit: I'm basically arguing a case that I don't even really agree with and have no stake in. Just trying to understand it from their point of view.

Because MJ being white isn't a defining physical trait. Her red hair is.

BvS is shit.

I said that because maybe you liked Not Lex Luthor or Punisher Batman. The idea is that there are keys to a character and her red hair is iconic it's a significant part of the character. If Zeny manages to pull off red hair dope but if they don't even try they fucked up. Period.

What? Why I would I be banned for pointing out my own fucking opinions? WTF is wrong with you.
Let me make this easy for you.

Spider-man and his supporting cast were created decades ago, when America was very white and minorities were either not represented in media or were represented negatively.

America today is very diverse and Marvel wants to reflect that in homecoming. If Spider-man was created today, this is more like what his universe would look like, not the all white characters of the 1960s.

Contrary to what you've suggested, this is equality. An all-white cast, especially in a movie based in one of America's most diverse cities, is not.

Probably because that one trait is easily to modify while the other one would mean a recasting and excluding people based on their race

She's perfect! Aunt May still my number 1 tho.

There was quite a bit of something actually. At least the beginning of it with people not sure how to react to it. Check the fox news archives and try not to ignore the blowout that happened across social media. But give it time. The under current is about to get a lot louder as the BP movie approaches.

Actually, there wasn't much discussion about BP at all. Certainly not anywhere the level many had hoped there would be.

As for when the BP movie comes, maybe there will, maybe there won't. I tend to think there there won't be much outrage outside of a few articles on obscure websites.

Both are easily modified, because neither will have anything whatsoever to do with the actual quality of the film. I guess my priorities on what really matters are a bit different here.

You know, you might be right and I'm just confusing Sam Wilson becoming Captain America and Fox News siding with the fictional white supremacist villains.
Still, some butthurt is on the way. Might as well prepare for it and get good seats.
