Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

As someone who played titanfall on pc and going into the ps4 version felt abit jarring. TF2 looks rough and by biggest complaint is respawn using the source engine again.

Game is fun but the Ttk is to short and it does take too long to get a Titan regardless if you're good. Hard point matches seem to be nearly over by the time a few Titans are up.

i thought the first game was alright. stopped playing at around 100 hours on pc. i'm really not feeling this one. it all feels a bit too loose and all over the shop. the ui is too packed with information. i feel like my brain is overloading.

Tried it again this morning, on different modes. My initial impressions haven't been changed, it just feels like a completely different game from the first :(

I liked pilots vs pilots and third mode. Second is garbage.

Btw is it normal that I played in team of 5 against 3 people? How are they supposed to win?

The main complaint bot haters had was that it was too easy to farm grunts and then dominate the entire match with your Titan, which in theory sounds plausible but you just didn't see it that much in matches. And that is one of the reasons grunts were there anyways, to help reduce build time and give you more shit to shoot at. Pilot Hunter sounded like a good idea but when you actually played it it was kind of boring.

I did that! All the time!
I was a bot farming, Titan dropping, match dominating MONSTER in Attrition ...

Pilots killed? 0
Bots killed? All of Them

Attrition better be making a comeback is all I'm saying... That and Hard Point Domination earned Titanfall 2nd in my list of "Most Hours Played Game" on my Xbox One, right behind Destiny...

Only in Bounty Hunt where they are used to farm currency. They are absent for all other modes as of now.

Yeah, no one is talking about the lack of great background music. It was one of the first things I noticed was missing.

I assume it's just to reduce the download size of the test version.

well played about 5 games and its fun but feels different to T1 and i suck lol got rekt in pilot v pilot but the mode you can use a titan was fun...

after playing soo much destiny which to me has the best shooter and gun play this was tricky took me awhile to change the options to find the sweat spot.

This exactly. It simply did not play out that way and the player only modes were a bore.

These are all easily fixable before launch. It's tuning issues not engine or core gameplay issues. I think the maps are good and grappling feels great.

I'll be frank: I was expecting TF2 to be like MW2 - a crazier version of TF1. MW2 took everything from COD4 and dialed it up 10 times.

It was gaming bliss.

I didn't realize it before, but this might be exactly what I was hoping TF2 would be.

MW2 was unbalanced and insane and broken and fucking amazing.

So it seems that the general consensus is that most of the people that like TF2 have not played the original. I wonder if that will have any impact on sales, as I assume a lot of people that only own a PS4 won't know what they missed in the first game.

This is what it seems like to me.

Most that have never played the series before are enjoying it a lot, and the people that played the original have different thoughts on it.

Will be playing it this weekend on my friends PS4 to see how it is. I'm really not liking the changes of less bots and less focus on wall-running/fast gameplay. Seems like they dumbed it down for wide appeal or something.

The game just seem so barren compared to the first one. I always felt like I had something to shoot be it a grunt or a pilot. The maps seem a bit flatter too. I seem to be spending more time on the ground in this one.

AI spons in the red areas you have to clear them to open the bank. You should be fighting in the areas the creep spawn in when the bank is closed.

Just played a few games on ps4. Seems like more of the same with speed increased. I'm liking it though. No lag at all on ps4 for my games.

Took forever to get a titan and didn't feel that great playing one. I miss the shields. Smart play with those allowed you to keep your Titan up and survive small damage. Now, you're just doomed to die regardless of how you play. Grappling hook is great though. The game might have dropped from a purchase to rental.

If my impressions of it turn out like I am imaging, I probably won't buy this game soon. And I was big fan of the first. Can't believe they caved to the "No botss!!!" trolls.

Maybe I'll get it way later after it's on sale.

They also didn't need to slow it down, that's what Titanfall is to me. Fast, chaotic gameplay. And less focus on Titans or easier to destroy? please.

I got two Call of Duty games and Battlefield to keep me busy anyway.

Not happy with these changes at all.

The game feels off and odd coming from tf1. Not liking it at all so far. Feels really slow too. All the games I've been in are unbalanced teams as well which makes it even less fun to play. 6 v1? Come on!

Yeah but that in itself is a problem for me as I find myself almost spawn camping waiting for the next set of bots to drop in to kill. I want to be sprinting and jumping around not sat somewhere clearing out a.i from the same area till the bank opens.

I only played once briefly at a friend's house, so bear with me...

Personally, when I play a competitive multiplayer FPS I want whatever kills I get to be human players. It's one thing if it's something like the classic Battlefront games where the very nature of it is mowing down generic army men (and being mowed down the same) but Titanfall is for the most part laid out like a normal FPS where you're running around the level looking for enemies. "Oh look, let me shoot at this guy-oh it's just a bot...so it's an unsatisfying easy kill"

I fully understand that killing them gets your Titan faster but is the purpose of playing multiplayer to get your Titan or to beat/kill the enemy team? As it stands it's comparable to a killstreak for people who aren't good enough to generally achieve them (like me, lol)

Obviously it's personal preference and there's people who love it so it's fine, but that's where I'm coming from at least not liking the bots. Regardless, I'll be giving TF2 a shot this weekend

But it's only in those spots, and only in Bounty Hunt. Compared to the first game where the grunts were in just about every mode and all over the battlefield, it's a huge step back and makes the game lose a big part of what made the original unique.

I play the original titanfall a few times a week. I think what you're seeing is the result of a few things:

Not using the "classic" aiming style in the options.

No AI in the test modes.

Titan build times are much higher than the old game in this test.

Hard point is a slower game type. I like that it gives incentive to stay and defend a point by amping it but it makes the game too stationary. I think that the hard point mode doesn't work great in this game since the maps are way more open and there's fewer players per team, the action is very slow.

And the lack of music. People don't think about how much of an effect this has on the feel of a game.

I think it should have been a traditional attrition mode instead with ai. That's my complaint.

I like the way Titans work now you a arent gifted Titans on a timer anymore I like that.

Also make sure to pick up a battery before you get into your Titan for more health. It's fun having to look for batteries when you're health gets low cuz you have to exit the Titan I dig the risk vs reward.

I do wish you had more forward momentum with out sliding you can't really bunny hop off wall runs without stim.

To each their own I guess. I enjoyed the Titan combat in the first game the most and it seems like there just isn't enough of it with the current state of the game. There has to be some middle ground. Maybe make pilot kills fill up the Titan meter a little faster?

The unbalanced is really skewing my perception. I am constantly getting pinned 5v2 6v1, etc.

In terms of the game, I like it. It isn't TF1. Feels a little different, but it I am still having fun. It does not look that good right now though. Hopefully it gets a big bump in some departments when release happens.

But it was mainly for attrition buddy. You could ignore them in marked for death, or pilot hunter mode, along with LTS.

Attrition is where actually team points were calculated, and they actually send you boat loads of spetre's and ai guy's to kill on op of destroying titans, and pilots. Everything adds up to the teams end score. If you want straight up K/D ration play LTS, Pilot hunter, or hard point.

I got 5 Titans last game it's not hard to get them just make sure you have a battery on you for the extra shield. I also had like 30+ kills cuz of all the new players. Batteries are important

Killing bots was a risk/reward thing. You waste bullets and likely have to reload, expose yourself on the minimap, and make it easier for yourself to be noticed and killed by other players and Titans.

Concealment, escape, and not being noticed was a big part of attrition in tf1. Because there were so many ai running around you really had to pay attention to locate other players and it felt special when you get the drop on one.

Outside of Bounty Hunt, Titans feel very secondary. Not one drops in Amped Hardpoint until the match is a half or three-fourths of the way over.

That makes sense. It definitely works as it's own take on multiplayer but coming in expecting something more traditional is probably what threw me off. Had I have played more to get used to how it works I may have come around on it

Grappling hook seems alright in my book.

Guys who are playing this... as a BIG Titanfall 1 player...

can anyone link me gameplay this isn't from someone complete garbage?

edit: No bots?

=( omg that's horrible

What were they thinking putting bounty hunt in the beta? Shit's way too complicated.
What's complicated about it?

Go to the drop zones, kill grunts for cash, take the drop zone for a bonus, deposit your earnings at the bank when the wave ends, all while trying not to die so you don't lose half your earnings to the enemy.

Eh, yeah, I dunno. I've only played a couple of matches, but I don't think I'm gonna buy this. Might be more fun on PC, but it's hard to justify buying that version "blind" after having a bunch of not-fun with the PS4 version.

enjoying the hell out of it, i also enjoyed the 1st game to a pretty massive degree
held the overall score leaderboard for a good while until i stopped playing and dropped down to #2 on console for tf1, primarily hardpoint

ill prob go for the same thing in tf2 leaderboard hopping and going for a quick 10th prestige depending on challenges this time around

so far from my tf2 play i prefer the sonar and scorch titan (scorch titan specifically for the bounty hunt map due to the tight corridors), the sonar is nuts you just launch it into their spawn if you want and get a general direction of where they are going to be right out of the gate

the skill transferred really well if i havent mentioned that here yet, at least in my case basically the same exact decision making

Just played a few matches on ps4. I dug it. Haven't played titanfall 1 in years so it's hard to compare for me. Interested to see what's in the final release.

I hope more people learn about the cores that you can grab from other titans. I'm always grabbing the cores and jumping on my teammates titan to heal them but no one ever does the same for me :/

Not to pile on but I'm not liking any of these modes. If the final game doesn't have Attrition or something very similar I'm going to be very disappointed.

Also, I hope regenerating shields on Titans comes back. That rewarded being more selective in your engagements and making strategic withdrawals behind cover for a few seconds. Now it's a more brainless shoot at everything that moves until you blow up.

I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt so far and say it's the maps. The maps are straight up terrible. But there some changes that are just baffling to me.

Also, hoe the hell do you use Scorch's chest gun thing?

its his core and thats ion, scorch core is a fire smash that leaves flames on the ground in a wide radius
