Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

I've had one Titan the entire 2 plus hours I've played today. Wtf is up with this game. It's not titanfall. I could get 2-3 Titans per match in 1. This game is a fraud.

Eum' I'm playing this game for the first time and I'm getting 2-3 Titans per game.
I don't think the game is at fault there. :-/

Never played the first one, but really having fun with this one. In sick of battlefield so I think I will get this for holiday. Hope there are more weapons, maps and modes in the full version.

Also technically Im really liking it. Really smooth 60fps gameplay and the graphics on ps4 also looking good. Very sharp textures.

Installing it now but reading the impressions in here is... disappointing. I adored the first Titanfall and really hoped it would be my go-to FPS franchise of choice. Still excited to give it a shot tonight.

Never deleted a demo/alpha/beta as fast as I did with this.

I really enjoyed the first game but WTF is this shit? The time-to-kill is basically nonexistent. All you gotta do is fart in my general direction to get a kill. And where's the badass music when you're deployed from the aircraft?

Yikes.

Yeah no thank you. I'll play a little more but at this rate it seems like a major step down from Titanfall 1. It's really says something when your first game is more fun and plays 10x better than this.

Seriously what the hell happened? Why can't I select the gender of my choice? Why can't I choose my preferred titan and mix around its weapons? Why does the wall movement feel so off? Why is map traversal worse and almost nonexistent?(it's like you're forcing me to use the grappling hook when I'd rather use something else) Why the fuck does it take so long to get even one titan?!

They even ruined the sniper.... it was perfect before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCsgaAd30ho

precisely.

anybody who complains about AI in TF1 clearly didn't master the game.

they were a core function of reducing your titan timer, which added this great little balance nuance where if you chose to shoot grunts / spectres to reduce your timer, your location would be exposed on the map [although you could melee kill them to avoid that, but that would require you to stand still for a few seconds, which is also very dangerous in TF1].

so far TF2 plays with pilots on the ground, or pilots on roofs.

i've been trying my god damn darndest to parkour around like a maniac, but it just feels like i'm forcing something on a game that doesn't play that way anymore.

i'm sure i could get used to this game once it releases on PC and i give it more time... or something, but i'm just super disappointed right now, and honestly quite sad.

Your not alone charles, we should play some TF1 tonight in remembrance I'm ACETHEOUTLAW btw.

I'm probably one of the biggest Titanfall fans out there but I just can't lie to myself anymore, this really isn't Titanfall. The flow of the game, the lack of AI (and no bots in other modes besides BH? Fuck that), the TTK, the map design... I seriously think that even after 1,000+ hours in Titanfall, I might skip out on buying this solely because this isn't the series I fell in love with.

Take note, Respawn. I know you're reading this. All of these posts about people being disappointed. You have serious problems here that need to be fixed or your biggest fans aren't going to turn out.

Went back to play some R1 in case my Backwater Attririon acievement pops up. After spending 2 days on this test, the first thing that I realized was how fluid the movement is. Wallrunning and shooting people inbetween is effortless. Both for titan and pilot, it's much less choppy than R2. Jumping into a titan, having everything go dark, then the hud lighting up felt like the first time I saw it.

The only thing I missed was the grappling hook and the sliding.

Went back to R2 with a friend soon after. Worst about combat (apart from TTK, and the stuff mentined vefore) was that the ADS FoV is greatly reduced. Never seen that mentioned before, but going back and forth between the games made it rather obvious.

I still enjoy this game plenty, but not sure whether I'd like to support Respawns decisions with my purchase.

Read some posts above, some suggesting delaying the game until Q1 2017. Tbh, that decision from them wouldn't even surprise me after this release.

This is also getting ridiculous in Bounty Hunt

Oh and totally forgot. What's up with the 2 weapons only? I found myself dying a lot thanks to going empty, then switching weapons... to a charge rifle. Why would they remove sidearms? (I know you can trade the AT weapon for it, but that really shouldn't be the solution)

Played for a good few hours now and I've come around. Having an absolute blast.

There's still some things that need tweaked and the maps suck balls bug it's still the core Titanfall gameplay that I know and love.

Haha I'm done. Cant keep up with people. Was doing alright yesterday and the day before but now that more general public is playing I am getting fucking decimated. No fun. Game controls like a dream but my skill is nowhere near having this game being even remotely fun at this point. Lol fuck

Respawn just shot themselves in the foot. I don't know what you know about gaming culture, but I'm an expert. Honor and shame are huge parts of it.

It does feel different, but unlike a lot of others here, I recognize that this is an alpha. There's still some time to tweak some things. That said, I've enjoyed my time with it so far.

I don't think they scrap and rebuild maps at the alpha stage of development. If Titanfall 2 wants to surpass Titanfall 1 it seems like it'll need more than tweaking.

I really liked Titanfall 1, but this game just isn't doing it for me.

-The maps are empty and don't have the structures needed for good traversal
-You don't get enough Titans, why couldn't they just keep it on the timer mechanic
-The grappling hook is fun, but it feels sort of awkward and kills some of the parkour mechanics. Also, it's made getting onto titans WAY too easy
-Time to Kill is way too quick, feels like you don't have a chance to use movement to escape
-AI seems like an afterthought, rather then the big role it played for scoring in TF
-Not much high-speed movement happening, but I feel like the slower pace is due to the map design
-The UI is god awful, there's clutter everywhere
- Why get rid of burn cards? They were a fun mechanic that weren't needlessly grindy

I guess they can fix some of these issues, but they've lost my trust for now and I will be waiting for reviews and launch gameplay.

Yeah I'm also thinking of skipping. It's funny because I thought I would have too many MO games to play come October but now it's looking like just gears and maybe COD

Can't be said enough.

I am disappointed with this game so far. TTK is way too little, no chance to have all those amazing encounters like in the first game. Maps are empty. No specters and grunts, they are there in Bounty Hunt, but in specific areas and little numbers. In the first game it felt like a battlefield, in this game it just feels empty. The maps are not as tightly or well designed either. If not attrition or last titian standing mode, I probably will not buy. My 2 favorite modes from the first game. Amped Hardpoint causes camping I missed the titan shields as well. Even thought I did well, it was probably because of playing COD instead of Titanfall, but I look for something different with Titanfall. Overall it has not made a good impression on me as a veteran player of the first game. I fell in love with the beta for the original and it caused me to pre order, this game does not seem like it is for me anymore.

Still have to try it for myself but from impressions on here it seems like a bit of a step back from the first. I wonder if this is a result of having to waste time and money on a campaign...

Would a couple month delay even fix the problems?

Fixing the problems is one thing but then you've got maps not designed for this alpha kind of movement/gameplay mechanics, and I don't think these maps would suit old Titanfall style at all, so they'd end up having to remake them (unless the rest are somehow 10x better than the current two)

And that's only multiplayer, they would have to fix movement and stuff in the campaign aswell for consistency and who knows what the campaign levels are like.

Maybe I'm overestimating it but yea...

Ace!

Fuck man HI HI HI!

Yeah I've been on MUCH more again thanks to how hard this alpha's been depressing me.

Halo 5 stole my thunder ever since it released, but I've been sorely missing the pace of Titanfall so I've been jumping on more often again lately.

A bit rusty, but my chops'll be back soon enough.

[ps - public disclaimer, Ace is the truth]

I didn't like it at all.
I haven't played the first TF but here it's just too easy to die. Whenever you see somebody from a side or from behind he is dead, and the same goes for you of course. There's no fight, it's just "the first who sees the other wins". They managed to make a game with wallruns, double jumps, hook, and then people prefer to stay hidden in some house rather than flying around the levels because you die so easily...

Hmm after playing it for a bit more it's slowly starting to grow on. Never played the first one but coming off of BLOPS3 I really like the movement. Even with the wall running and thrusters BLOPS3's movement still feels very restrictive. In TF2 it honestly feels like there's zero restrictions on how you can move and get around. I also enjoy the Titans far more then I thought I would. Though it definitely needs to be easier to obtain one and they do need a buff. Feel like it's way to easy to take them out.

Just played one match and yeah, that was not fun at all. The movement system is gimped, the map was not memorable at all (roofs and ground with little room for parkour), the Titan system feels like a step back and even in my one match I got spawn camped several times.

Cancelling my preorder, that beta killed any hype I had for this game. Respawn took it in a direction I really dislike, just like when they went from MW1 to MW2, I hated the changes.

TF1 felt great to play from the moment I played my first match. It really felt like it's own beast. This just feels like CoD with robots added in and the devs being afraid to focus on the Titan dynamics. So disappointed....

This x 1000....

I'm seriously canceling my pre-order. I logged 250+ hrs in TF1 (Xbone). This is not Titanfall.

"CoD with Mechs" feels pretty accurate thus far. I'll continue playing the beta to give it a longer look and provide feedback to the devs (hopefully they take criticism/advice to heart and implement changes).

TF1 is easily my favorite 8th gen MP game, but so far I'm just not feelin the sequel.

despite all the changes they did in TF2, i can still see my self enjoying TF2 if they changed just one thing, the leveling system, they have to remove the current system and added the normal XP system, if the full game didn't change anything from this beta then there is a huge chance i will skip it

Again, it's an alpha with two maps.
It's an alpha only in name. In reality it's alpha phase would have been last year, not 2 months from release.

Regardless, there are things here that simply can't be redone in that short of a timespan. The maps would have to be reworked to flow better and handle AI all over the field, and that can't be as simple as changing a few values before the game goes gold in about a month.

one of the worst thing they did is changing the rodeo system, are they trying to copy Halo or something ?? TF1 rodeo was brilliant

Yh TF2 is my first time playing.

Doing Bounty hunt and ive called my Titan atleast 6 times on the last match i played

Bounty hunt is a bad mode and is 15 minutes long.

The main modes like hardpoint are bad, but they are getting patched for next week. Not a big deal but the problem with that mode is amping

It encourages camping and makes the maps feel even more dead

Bro you making a grown ass man blush :)

Lol @ everyone expressing their disgust and picking apart this limited, pre-alpha test like it's the final product.

I think the guts are good. You get a satisfying boost of speed when wall running and there ARE plenty of places for you to chain wall runs and double jumps if you just branch out a little. There aren't random walls sticking out of the middle of the ground but for God's sake, look around you and use the environment. I've been extremely mobile, and there are obviously many more maps coming in the actual game.

TTK is going to get hammered out. Again... Pre alpha. And for anyone complaining that you aren't calling in enough titans per match...
git gud.

My friends and I keep getting split up after the first game on PS4, I find the movement fun but the outside map with rocks doesn't encourage wall running much.

I only play titanfall 1 in beta and I remember cruising all over the place

One of my big problems with Bounty Hunt is that if you get a big dollar value, you are basically encouraged to stay out of the fight until the Bank is open. You lose so much on a death, and the open maps allow for more "cheap" feeling deaths, that it becomes more of a survival thing than a fun of the fight thing. Any system that actively encourages you not to play is bad.

Hahah, no.

There are things at this stage couple months from release they can not change. Like how movement is, the mechanics of battery vs. regular rodeo, proper titan movement and boosting. Not making the grapple so easy to rodeo titans, recharging shields, and customized load-outs for titans.

Glad you like it, but this game unless they push release and give it a overhall is a shadow of it's predecessor which was almost perfect gamplay/mechanic wise, all it lacked was content.

Everywhere i read 90% of the people are saying the same thing. Neogaf, Titanfall Reddit, Xbox One Reddit some smaller forums. Its not that some people hate it. The overall majority doesnt like it and agree on most points. Never seen that before really. Not sure what Respawn can do really. Sure there is gonna be some tweaks. But they are not gonna complety overhaul major things so close to release. And its gonna release next to BF1 and COD. Always said it was a bad idea. But he it could work if the game was really really good and overshadows the other ones. But looks like thats not really gonna happen. I fear for the franchise. Wich sucks. Because i love the franchise.
