Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

There's too much dead air in Bounty Hunt as well with the way grunts are concentrated in only a few locations, and with waves that only transition after they're all dead. Frequently you'll have people sitting back and farming to avoid combat until the wave is over

It weird that the game isn't emphasizing movement as much as it should be

Yeah, the grouping of grunts in Bounty Hunt doesn't do the mode any favors.

I've had this feeling before...

precisely.

anybody who complains about AI in TF1 clearly didn't master the game.

they were a core function of reducing your titan timer, which added this great little balance nuance where if you chose to shoot grunts / spectres to reduce your timer, your location would be exposed on the map [although you could melee kill them to avoid that, but that would require you to stand still for a few seconds, which is also very dangerous in TF1].

so far TF2 plays with pilots on the ground, or pilots on roofs.

i've been trying my god damn darndest to parkour around like a maniac, but it just feels like i'm forcing something on a game that doesn't play that way anymore.

i'm sure i could get used to this game once it releases on PC and i give it more time... or something, but i'm just super disappointed right now, and honestly quite sad.

My biggest complaint so far is why are there snipers in this game? You have all the movement ablilites you could ever want, yet I still find around 50% of each time sitting at the back of the map somewhere sniping.

Yo, I was watching the vids and gifs and was like...wtf? are those snipers based weps....I think even saw something like a quick scope? Fucking cringe.

I dont think the gameplay is unique enough to last. They had something with tf1 but this game is an awful lot of running on foot and playing uninteresting modes. It feels so regular

I never realized until now that they removed the timer for titans. There is such a low number of titan action that I think they just shied away from it because shooter fans dont want giant robots (I do though)

No A.I in hardpoint. Hardpoint is slowed down to a crawl. Big maps with no verticality. No sweet map designs that combined rooftops, close quarter allies, and room for titans in between

The maps and modes are such a shame

Get rid of amped hardpoint! I hate seeing so many people amp up the objective and not moving around. What a weird addition for a fast game

Ttk feels low to me too, but I think this is especially amplified by the open map design. Getting killed by ARs that seem to do great at all distances.

lack of a.i despite big maps, lack of verticality despite big maps, modes encouraging slowed down gameplay despite big maps, fewer titan action despite big maps.

It's so very odd

I get the feeling that single player shaped the mp map design. Dont MP games reuse SP maps?

Well, I played a couple more rounds -- at one point, I stole an enemy Titan's power core thing and gave it to a friendly. I only knew this was possible because of reading about it here. It was awesome! After that, I somehow stayed on top of the friendly Titan and was able to ride it around. That was a really cool moment. It would be nice if the tech test would make the smallest attempt at giving tips and tutorials for the game modes, since most of the the player base hasn't played TF before. I had no idea you could just double jump up to climb on Titans!

Yeah, being able to give a battery to a friendly titan is super cool. Probably my favorite change/addition to the game, although there are very few that I actually like currently.

LTS was by far my favorite mode, so many tactics and combinations possible. I don't even know why they'd bother with it in this game. Fuck this is almlst depressing. At least we still have the original.

Damn, the changes to how you get your Titan is fucking awful...

I had literally 1 titan in a whole Hardpoint match, that was just boring.

Why would they replace Attrition, it was THE mode in 1. Why did they change so much, they almost had it perfect in 1.

yeah thats why everyone stopped playing it after the first month....

lets not pretend titanfall was anywhere close to being perfect.

I've had one Titan the entire 2 plus hours I've played today. Wtf is up with this game. It's not titanfall. I could get 2-3 Titans per match in 1. This game is a fraud.

I just played my first 2 games. As a hardcore fan of Titanfall 1 my initial reaction is

CNR_meh.jpg

I didn't hate it and I didn't love it.

-I thought everyone was being a bunch of babies about the speed, but it did stick out to me like a sore thumb. I felt sluggish. I really want to re-install TF1 to see if I'm being crazy or what. The slower speed made the game feel less snappy somehow.

-I love the grappling hook. Great addition.

-Titans don't feel as badass when I call them down and hop. No idea why. Probably just crazy on this one.

-Being able to steal batteries and put them in friendly Titans is dynamite. Most of my fun was coming from doing this. It's too bad there didn't feel like there were a lot of titans out and about though.

-I had a ton of incidents where enemy pilots were hopping on friendly titans while I was in my titan and I would shoot the hell out of them to try and help a buddy. For the life of me, I couldn't kill the pilots. I don't know if my aim was that shitty or what, but it happened a handful of times where the enemy pilots felt invincible.

I'll keep playing, but if I had one wish it is that Respawn listens to people and bumps the speed. Just a LITTLE bit. Please.

I recall hearing similar cries of "they ruined Halo" when Halo 5 came out with ADS and game modes like breakout. So I am not going to pull the fire alarm switch just yet. I played one match and what I experienced I enjoyed. It definitely has a new learning curve as it doesn't play the same exactly but its familiar enough for me and that's the same way I felt about Halo 5. I grew to really love Halo 5 MP and hold up high among other Halo games.... this cold be a similar situation.

Pre-ordered the PS4 version! Still love the game!

I'm apprehensive about many changes, but I'm still having a lot of fun. It's disappointing in some aspects, but this is just a Tech Test, I feel confident this isn't everything they have in store for us.

Also people fucking suck at this game right now, I mean I am seeing people on my team doing the absolute dumbest shit. It will be more fun when people understand what is happening better and contribute to the objective and all that. Because right now I'm playing games of Hardpoint where half the team isn't doing shit, like no kills, no points, just running around and dying.

Also I'm playing on PS4, so XB1 might be better right now with more experienced R1 players.

Titanfall's core gameplay and loop was stellar. Just looking at gameplay, it's at least as good as the yearly COD we've gotten for the past half decade. It definitely lacked carrots and content though, and that's why people jumped ship.

I've had one Titan the entire 2 plus hours I've played today. Wtf is up with this game. It's not titanfall. I could get 2-3 Titans per match in 1. This game is a fraud.

I also realized that i got 2-3 titans in bounty, but bounty is 15 min as opposed to the regular 10

Oh, and for a story driven game, it's weird how much better tf1's presentation was. I loved the characters telling me to stand by, and all that

There is just some generic voiceover now! (Minus the cool talking titans)

Was super titanfall addicted. 100 hours of TF1.First game of titanfall 2 and was machted against a sniper team. Could not move 2 steps without beeing oneshot. Picked sniper rifle next game and got 1shots without even remotely aiming close to my targets. Sorry respawn but ill pass this one

What makes me even more sad is that I sold my XBO a month ago because the only game I played on it was Titanfall. With TF2 coming out for PS4, I had full faith that it would AT LEAST be as good as TF, so got rid of the system collecting dust for me to get TF2 on the console that I primarily play.

:( wish a TF1 port would have made its way!

Yeah they do. Bounty game I just played I ended up with over $2200, and my next closest ally was a little over $300. At that point I gave up and just had fun killing things.

Titan earning is getting turned up for Amped Hardpoint. The fixes should be in for weekend #2. The mode wasn't originally scheduled to go up in weekend #1 like this, so it has some old default numbers.

So; next weekend you'll see a lot more titans in Amped Hardpoint.

Yeah, but once the beta rolled around for Halo 5, Halo fans were pretty receptive to the changes and realized that it had gone back to the original arena design. TF1 to TF2 seems more akin in going from Halo 3 to Halo 4, at least in terms of fanbase reaction.

Awww yeeeeah. That's what I like to hear.

You're passing because some snipers rocked you? I don't think you liked Titanfall that much....Give it another go, cap'n. I had 0 snipers in my games so far.

My guess since Titanfall 1 had no campaign is the Ai were put there to compensate. Multiplayer was basically the campaign so it made sense. Now respawn boosted the resolution added a real campaign and removed ai.

That's what I find funny about this Thread people are ignoring The game was dead after a few months. Most people get really competitive with Shooters. AI in Multiplayer Shooters gave me no satisfaction to kill.

So I think Respawn wants this game to have more of a competitive feeling. So it actually last this time not a couple months.

TF1 died because of shitty xbone exclusivity and no steam release. The game was perfect

I liked the ai sometimes players would blend in with them giving the player a slight advantage.

Enjoying this pretty much.
However, I agree with a lot of what has been said such as:
  • Respawn locations* are god awful
  • The Wallrunning isn't that smooth
  • Grappling Hook is pretty nice
  • Gunplay is good (imo)
  • Getting a Titan via kills sucks a lot. I'd rather have a 3-5 minute wait time or something lmao.

Also, I'm new to Titanfall so I wouldn't know what the previous game has.

Honestly my biggest issue with the beta so far is all the rage quitters. It's hard to get an accurate depiction of how the game is suppose to play when literally every match i'm in ends up being a 5 v 1.

It was mostly an issue of content. The majority of players who dropped R1 felt that there wasn't much to work toward earning/unlocking in the game besides regenerating, so they dropped it for having a weak progression system.

Also, the AI were there to reduce build time for your Titan and serve as a way to get points for Attrition. They kept the pacing super fast, too.

One game alone was enough to tell how competitive tf2 will look like. Go Sniper or go home. Not my taste at all.

Really? I'm getting at least 3 titans a game easy. I usually just leave them on auto pilot though.

Just hit level 6 and haven't lost a game yet. Nobody else but me seems to be playing the objective.

Just played one match and yeah, that was not fun at all. The movement system is gimped, the map was not memorable at all (roofs and ground with little room for parkour), the Titan system feels like a step back and even in my one match I got spawn camped several times.

Cancelling my preorder, that beta killed any hype I had for this game. Respawn took it in a direction I really dislike, just like when they went from MW1 to MW2, I hated the changes.

TF1 felt great to play from the moment I played my first match. It really felt like it's own beast. This just feels like CoD with robots added in and the devs being afraid to focus on the Titan dynamics. So disappointed....

What about Attrition with full on AI soldiers, will that be coming back for full release or not?

This game shows exactly why the industry is fucked. They made 1 game with a vision and it was amazing. They then realised if they changed a few things they could get a shit tonne of money instead (OK I know, business is business, fair enough). They completely changed the entire dynamic of the game, we have to cater to competitive, and the "fans" (the ones that never played it but with a change, would...and they got that change).

I was iffy since I saw the things like the recon blade or the other one that sucks you in...when I saw the Titan system was changed only to be able to say "there are SIX now, that's double!".

Best way I would put it, it feels like a 4th developer has joined the Activision line-up with Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, and Treyarch, and that new devrloper tried to copy Titanfall.

I know the responses my post will get...but I don't care. I have gone from "Day One" to "Sale" if there are big changes, or even EA Access".

Nope.

Regarding the maps, I get the feeling single player came first, and MP maps came from that

I wonder if TF1 maps were better because they were built from the ground up, exclusively for MP

yeah thats why everyone stopped playing it after the first month....

It was because there was no content. It was damn near perfect and they went and fucked it up. Why the fuck would you get rid of the AI????? Not buying this trash. Make Titanfall 3 the same as Titanfall 1, with more content and I will buy that. I can wait three years if necessary.

Yeah......pre-order cancelled. They went backwards IMO. I'll catch it when it hits EA access and all the dlc us out.

Unfortunately... as like... the biggest TF fan, I have to agree.

I'm sure I'd have a blast with the single player, but non-AI modes were the worst in TF and I have no interest in playing them. I'll try a bit if I'm near an Xbox during one of these tests and post my impressions, at least to see if I can get MVP almost every game still, but I'm afraid they have catered to the people who didn't even appreciate the original.

It was and still is the most populated game mode on X1 for Titanfall, by a good green country mile. I expect to see it back, this is just an alpha test after all.

Ok man you got me there. Installing TF1 right now. This game is magic. Do you guys remember the first TF1 beta? You played one fucking match and you were addicted. Everything was just... magical. Part of me died when the beta was over and i had to participate in real life stuff again lol. Nope, TF2 does not have this magic
