Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

After playing the game for a couple hours here is my current impressions of the MP.

- TTK is way to low (Especially w/ Amped Weapons)
- Spawns are actually terrible (Multiple games where my team spawn trapped the other team easily)
- Titans take forever to spawn. (Only able to spawn my Titan maybe 2-3 times in a game of Bounty Hunt)
- Maps aren't that good and don't compliment the movement system at all.
- Due to the low TTK, most of the weapons feel worthless.
- Also due to the low TTK, you feel punished for using the movement system.
- I like some of the weapons.
- Love the grappling hook :)
- When you can get a good flow of the movement it feels good but its way to few and far between.

In it's current state I honestly don't see myself picking up Titanfall 2. Hopefully they fix up a lot of the current problems right now by launch but I kinda doubt it. Honestly my time with the beta made me re-download Titanfall lol.

Not entirely sure how I feel about this compared to the first one yet, but I do love me that hookshot.

Game feels like Black Ops 3 and honestly, feels run of the mill. Granted I only played 1 match where the opposing team all disconnected early, I think I'll pass.

Can it be that such a lukewarm general consensus possibly means respawn A team left tf2 with b team so that they can make their star wars game?

They were a very important mechanic, they were a resource. And I don't understand why pander to the wrong crowd by removing them. The way they function in Bounty Hunt isn't even similar to R1. And it's so obvious, especially when I can play a whole match of Amped Hardpoint, top kills, without a single Titanfall from either side.

If you actually go back and read the thread the dude from respawn said the earn rate for Titans in hardpoint is wrong and that's why you aren't getting them.

I don't think so. That thing was just recently announced and it really sounded like they announced it to bring in people to the studio and build out that team. If their only two projects right now are 2 and Star Wars I'd imagine most of the team was on 2 and that Star Wars is just starting up now.

Wow this is nowhere near as good as Titanfall 1. The balance all feels wrong where Titans break out way too late into matches, and the maps dont actually feel suited to them?

This is one of those bizarre situations where Titanfall 1 feels like the refined sequel to Titanfall 2.

I wonder if this is because the Respawn A Team is working on Star Wars while the B Team was setup to make this sequel in the mean time?

Lol yup, not surprised other people thinking this.

My biggest complaint so far is why are there snipers in this game? You have all the movement ablilites you could ever want, yet I still find around 50% of each time sitting at the back of the map somewhere sniping.

The TTK is so low that none of the tools really make sense. Why use a sniper rifle when damage is so high anyways? Why bother lining up a hookshot if I could've just killed them faster with ADS and .3 seconds of gunfire?

The movement feels nice, but overall this game is so disappointing. TTK is the biggest culprit, by far.

Hardpoint on Boomtown is literally the most shitty thing I've ever seen. You can get spawn camped in a domination type game , HOW ?

Spoke too soon about day 1 buy. Definitely will wait for discounts.

Prefer TF1,great game.

TF2
Do like grapple gun.

Don't like - Speed(to slow),Titan spawn time(to slow),limited ai,map,graphics are the same as TF1 and the fact it now feels like BO3.

Will wait for this to be bargain bucket fodder.

Not to stir the hornets nest (ok, maybe a little) but could the lack of ai units throughout actually be a result of lack of the "power of the cloud"? Nah imagine

Wow, so much time where nothing happens in bounty hunt. Can't believe they got rid of the majority of grunts from TF1. They used to be everywhere.

Game also feels sloooow, but maybe because maps are too big? Either way its not good.

All this blops3 talk is keeping me from downloading. Damn shame cause people seemed to love the first one and are let down with this.

Can you MM with friends in the beta. (Im scared reading this thread)
I don't think so.

I tried for 30 minutes to invite a friend to my game and it didn't work. I tried joining his session and he tried joining mine and nothing happened. Also tried using the in-game Invite Friends thing but every time I clicked on it, it didn't do anything.

After playing Overwatch for like 3 months it feels very weird getting back into class based modern stuff again

Real weird. I almost missed OW for a min

edit: Respawn pulled an Uncharted 3/Team 2 thing that Naughty Dog did?

Download it. Form your own opinion. Share feedback etc. What do you have to lose?

I don't think so.

Yes you can. Remember, they wanted to do this test to get real world testing on all of their new network stuff. They wanted us to break the game. I have a feeling next weekend will be real interesting.

Just about ask about the bolded above..

I've only watched via Twitch at the moment but it looks like TTK is really long compared to the TF1.

You would assume TTK would be quick because of how fast paced they want the game.

Yeah, TTK seems higher than in TF1. Players def. went down a lot faster then.

I loved the first game. Wanted to love this game.

But it just feels bad. While playing I was actually thinking how I would rather be playing BLOPS3 or Halo. Why do I feel like I'm playing in water the entire time?

I was pretty average player for tf1

But this feels great, getting used to the feel still
Definitely something I missed

There is a obvious lack of titan action though

Hoping attrition makes it

If you slide make sure to jump, slide,or grapple out of it

I really hate that red outline around players - I feel like I cannot outflank enemies because they can easily spot me across the map...

Yeah, it sucks. In TF1 you could easily sneak around and the radar/minimap was great at showing you the enemy position. In TF2 the radar is useless, though luckily it doesn't really matter much because players are lit up like Christmas trees.

Oh and every game so far had annoying, camping snipers. Fun. Don't think I ever had campers in TF1 in 100s of hours played.

I'm not sure it does on ps4 the Midwest azure server is no longer listed like Titanfall 1. It's the one in chicago I always had sub 30ms ping from Ohio. Now I'm stuck connecting to Virginia or New York.

Pretty sure it does. There were midewest servers the first 2 days of early access. There were only about 500-1000 players though. There is close to 200k players on the game today.

pretty similar to how I currently feel as well.

Agree with just about everyone else in this thread regarding maps and modes. Even Amped Hardpoint seems to run counter to the high mobility gameplay because you're encouraged to camp on the point. Some games start out with each team capturing A/C and then sitting there for another minute to get those extra points because, well, why wouldn't you? It's common sense to get that "free" capture while the other team is on the far side of the map, and now you need to stay on the point even longer for an "amped" capture.

How does the grapple hook work? How I think it should work isn't working for me lol

you boost as the grapple pulls you. You can slingshot yourself this way to get momentum. I'm hoping they fix the player weight and momentum. I'm loving the game but you can't really move as fast as Titanfall 1 without the grapple.

Lol at people comparing this to overwatch it's not even the same type of shooter. Titanfall is right up there with cod 4 for my favorite shooters and after 15 hours played I like Titanfall 2 it's just different like going from cod 4 to mw2.

1. Totally agree, it just feels gimped, especially on Homestead, what a boring map ):

2. Again, both maps suffer from this, but Homestead especially does. Who thought big open fields would be a good idea?

3. Yep. Let's make a game about movement and fluidity and introduce a mechanic that makes you literally stand in place for a minute to cap an objective. Baffling :\

I really hope they add CTF because I just don't like these modes we have to choose from/

Homestead wouldn't be as bad if it had a ton of zip lines that at least move you from the more open areas to the building areas faster than than just running on the ground.

precisely.

anybody who complains about AI in TF1 clearly didn't master the game.

they were a core function of reducing your titan timer, which added this great little balance nuance where if you chose to shoot grunts / spectres to reduce your timer, your location would be exposed on the map [although you could melee kill them to avoid that, but that would require you to stand still for a few seconds, which is also very dangerous in TF1].

so far TF2 plays with pilots on the ground, or pilots on roofs.

i've been trying my god damn darndest to parkour around like a maniac, but it just feels like i'm forcing something on a game that doesn't play that way anymore.

i'm sure i could get used to this game once it releases on PC and i give it more time... or something, but i'm just super disappointed right now, and honestly quite sad.

I completely agree, I for one like seeing the AI running around.

Has there been a tech analysis yet of both versions?
Playing the game on both systems, I feel as if the One version performs better. Nothing crazy by any means, but it seems to be there.
PS4 version looks slightly better, this game is not a looker really, but I experienced a lot more slowdown in hectic action on the PS4 than I did on the One version.
I'd imagine the One's resolution is lower and it shows to me.
Again though, would love to hear an official analysis.

There's too much dead air in Bounty Hunt as well with the way grunts are concentrated in only a few locations, and with waves that only transition after they're all dead. Frequently you'll have people sitting back and farming to avoid combat until the wave is over

It weird that the game isn't emphasizing movement as much as it should be

Well, I played a couple more rounds -- at one point, I stole an enemy Titan's power core thing and gave it to a friendly. I only knew this was possible because of reading about it here. It was awesome! After that, I somehow stayed on top of the friendly Titan and was able to ride it around. That was a really cool moment. It would be nice if the tech test would make the smallest attempt at giving tips and tutorials for the game modes, since most of the the player base hasn't played TF before. I had no idea you could just double jump up to climb on Titans!
