Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

The Best thing about this beta event is that it rekindled my love for TF1. I feel sad for the ps4 folks since they can not experiance the brilliance of titanfall and need to chew through this CoD with mechs to get a glimpse at it but I just launched TF on xbo and playerbase still seems to be healthy. The prequel is not the end of the sequel.

i don't understand the hate on the AI that was in TF1, their purpose is to make it easy for you to get your titan fast AND the most important purpose for them is to make you complete your challenges easier, and TF2 doesn't even have challenges because there is no XP leveling system

This is a bummer for me since I'm on PS4. Never got to play Titanfall and was really excited to finally get my hands on it during this test. I've been working all day so no chance to play it yet but I really want to find out what people were raving about the first one.

Lol @ everyone expressing their disgust and picking apart this limited, pre-alpha test like it's the final product.

I think the guts are good. You get a satisfying boost of speed when wall running and there ARE plenty of places for you to chain wall runs and double jumps if you just branch out a little. There aren't random walls sticking out of the middle of the ground but for God's sake, look around you and use the environment. I've been extremely mobile, and there are obviously many more maps coming in the actual game.

TTK is going to get hammered out. Again... Pre alpha. And for anyone complaining that you aren't calling in enough titans per match...
git gud.

Gonna save this post for when the full game comes out and nothing meaningful has changed.

If you really believe that a game releasing in October is currently in "pre Alpha".... Well, you don't know fucking anything about game development (or marketing).

This is probably my biggest disappointment since Garden Warfare 2.

Yup. I've been excited to try out Titanfall since 2012? 2013? Whenever it was first announced. It's a shame that Titanfall 2 has seemingly lost many of the things that made the original great.

So looked like a mod locked down /r/titanfall for about an hour? They're saying it wasn't some unanimous vote or anything and that Respawn wasn't involved by Salt content def. high in the TF community right now lol

People wanted it to be CoD with mechs. They added pilot vs pilot. Pilot vs Pilot was dead after a week. I really dont know wich data they gathered to decide to abandon the importance of ai in their new installment.

Ok man you got me there. Installing TF1 right now. This game is magic. Do you guys remember the first TF1 beta? You played one fucking match and you were addicted. Everything was just... magical. Part of me died when the beta was over and i had to participate in real life stuff again lol. Nope, TF2 does not have this magic

Like, TF1's beta was the best part of the game too, since it was before the matchmaking was screwed. But regardless, yeah... I miss TF1 seeing TF2. I don't like this feeling.

just some salty reddit mods

Respawn will do what most game devs do and not respond to criticism until the game is out

After playing, I feel like people have been bandwagonning or exaggerating the negatives, but it doesn't feel as good as titanfall 1 did.

It feels a little slow and floaty. The UI/menus are busy and not pleasant to look at (I guess Overwatch spoiled me). I hope they can iron out a lot of things before release. So far, this preview has been mostly bad for them if you look at what people are saying about it. They're going to have to really hone in on things to win people over now.

the only new addition i actually liked was the slide, it's really well made

and the only good change they did from the first game is the melee

everything else feels like Downgraded

TF2 is fun, but just seems to have lost the TF feel. I'm a guy who Gen 10'd 3 different gamertags in the original. I likely will hold off on this one for a bit. It hurts me to say that.

Edit:Fuck it, I just preordered.

Yup, just uninstalled the tech test so I could redownload TF1.

I fell in love with TF1 the first match I played during the beta and it was the reason I bought an XB1. I'll probably skip TF2 now though which is a shame as outside Siege the first is my favourite mp game this gen. Atleast I'll have MWR.

Lol played TF1 also right away. Must say i didnt play it for a long time. So wanted to see if i was not making TF1 a way better game in my head. Nope. It just played way better right away. Started on a map i didnt even knew in within a couple of seconds i was wallrunning like crazy.

I don't know if I should just blame it on the maps or what. I SHOULD love this game. I loved Titanfall. I enjoy the grappling hook. The maps are God awful, I know that much. Taking the shields away from titans makes no sense to me. Not being able to customize titan load outs makes no sense to me.

How much content is this test missing? I'm guessing there will be more than just the few weapons that are in the test? I know the first game didn't have a lot of weapons or customization. Surely they aren't making that same mistake?

Guess I will wait and see, but the game went from Day 1 for me to TBD. Battlefield 1 is priority as I know DICE will deliver.

I will admit it is not as fast and fluid compared to TF1 but I have played a couple of hours and I am starting to get a feel for the game. You learn to traverse faster once you know the maps. Boomtown is way better than Homestead in terms of map layout.

I think some people are over exaggerating the negatives and ignoring some of the positives of this game. The Titan abilities that they added are unique and awesome when used properly. I think I will still buy it because I love me some mech action.

Yea I bagged on the game a bit above, but in all likelihood as I get better (aka not oVVned by devs), it'll click.

I'm not on board with people calling it CoD with Mechs, still feels perfectly like it's own thing to me. However they have made some changes that are detrimental to the original feel of the first game, momentum just seems artificially halted most of the time. If these maps are indications of overall map design then that isn't a good sign either (I'm gonna assume no though).

I enjoy the changes to Titans the most out of any changes tbh, I like that they are more like heroes now with specific abilities/guns. I'm only iffy with the fact there is no countdown timer for them now, and this goes hand in hand with a lack of modes with AI. With no Timer and less/no AI earning a titan takes significantly more effort and can either lead to teams having none or one team just being STACKED.

Amped Hardpoint is also way more dull without AI, and the amping method just leads to people no longer wanting to move around the map so they just camp.

I'm still having a lot of fun and plan to buy the game (Single Player looks pretty good) but I think there is a lot of feedback like in this thread that Respawn really needs to take a good look at.

Reading the Titanfall 2 forums...ouch. Respawn getting torn into a bit. Some of it justified. However, I can't believe how many people I see complaining about "why did you get rid of this gun?" and shite. Respawn has made it clear we're just seeing a bit of what there is to be offered. Lordy, some people are oblivious.

I know it won't happen, but I really hope Respawn does an actual beta closer to launch to try and quell the fanbase concerns.

Man I had hoped all the negative impressions were hyperbole, but this seems to kind of suck. Trying not to pass too much judgement as the game is not final and I've I my put in a handful of games but why on earth did they break all the amazing things tf1 did so we'll? Legit sad.

I will try to describe the magic i was talking about earlier. TF did one thing that made it stand out above everything shooters related you have ever played before. Every match, no matter how bad your skills were, you felt like a fucking hero. Wallrun on top of titan, bust his core open, fuck him up, evade some Bullet, shoot the ejecting pilot, escape into a building though a Window, kill 5 grunts, reload and take a second to breath, call your titan, jump out into your cockpit and dash over another 5 grunts. Kills? Zero. Amount of fun and epicness? 100%!
Even if you had a huge losing streak you always had your moments of brilliance.
I dont feel it while playing TF2. Instead of these epic moments i reached instantly very high rage Levels after getting shot several times from oneshot rifles. I jump ontop of a titan after a simple press of a shoulder button via grapple hook ready to rodeo the shit outta it just to see my character pulling out a duracell and get instantly shot by the same titan that does seem to still function the same as before.
I dont know, it's just not titanfall the way i loved it. Maybe im just salty cuz I dont enjoy the game I was waiting for the most i wished i would. Glad that more people are feeling that there is something off. Was scared for a moment that im getting to old for this shit lol

Fun times. Thanks Nowise.

Played this for a few hours and am very close to deleting it. I won't say the full game sucks, this is just a small part, but I really do not like this technical test beta. It's COD with Mechs, it feels like some other team told to make a copy of Titanfall but completely misunderstanding what makes it fun. It's slower, it's more ground focused, there's less Titans, less to no AI, the map design (purely on what is here) really isn't that fun for traversing. Bounty Hunter and Pilot vs Pilot fucking suck and even Amped Hardpoint isn't that fun. There's so many core changes here to the formula that I just don't see being changed for the full release. This is what they want, that's cool it's their game afterall, but for me it just means I'll have more time for Battlefield 1 and COD Infinite Warfare.

Not impressed.

Yup, it's really lacking those moments of complete epicness where you just think "Holy shit that was insane, how did I even pull that off?".

I think it very much comes down to the very poorly designed maps and the lack of Titans. There is 0 room for creativity with these maps. There's lots of open space with a couple of obviously highlighted wallrun spots, that's it.

This isn't pre-alpha.

Of course it can be.

Let me guess. You don't work in development, because if you did you wouldn't be making such a foolish, armchair statement.

I swear, the worst thing about releases such as this are the comments from those who couldn't code "hello world" pulling apart a complex project.

I don't get the point of highlighting enemies so aggressively and giving players sonar abilities in a game in which players die quickly. Instead of doing cool movement stuff my gameplan quickly evolved to spamming that sonar knife thing and reaping the easy kills.

This game feels inferior, empty, and confused when compared to the first Titanfall.

The first Titanfall was already more fun when I played it at gaming convention many months before the release.

Played a couple of matches. I really liked the first game, not really stoked about this one so far. It feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back, I can't say I'm impressed.

I really wanted to disagree with most points made, but unfortunately that's not the case. It's slower for sure, the titan takes far too long, and everything has a "floaty" feel to it. Even the grappling hook could use a speed boost IMO.

Gonna play some more, but I may end up cancelling my preorder. Super bummed.

The game does not have simple quirks they can iron out after a few beta events. Tf2 is a solid game. It does what it wants to do quiet good. Its has design and identidy problem. It caters to a different audience and it will NOT change its core till release. I think we all just need to accept that tf2 is a new game and even if it hurts us tf1 vets, we need to just let it be itself. Im sure there are people who enjoy this game. I am not and i wont buy it this time.

I've spent several hours today playing. So much so that my eyes are bloodshot lol. I understand that the maps aren't as good (these 2 anyway)and that it's limiting traversal, but I'm really digging it other than that. Seems like I'm in the vast minority on Gaf. Woah.

Never played Titanfall so I was hyped for this but yeah, this does feel like cod with mechs. The free running mechanics are great but I feel like I'm being punished for using them. Maybe I just need more time.
