Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

First time playing a Titanfall game. Its fine, its kinda cool calling down a titan and running on the back of a team mates but I don't like games like this anymore, the twitch Call of Duty style shooters.

I asked them at Gamescom and they were not sure if they would put up a trial on EA Access a week before launch.
After this Techtest, they really should.

Man this thrad and beta streams have been a real downer. Was thinking about downloading it on PS4 to try it out even though i was eventually planning on getting it for PC like last time, but most of these changes.....blech. Sounds like they bowed to the pressure of the COD players who got good at one thing and only ever want to do that one thing. Well congrats Respawn, you'll probably win some people from that crowd, but also turn away a lot of the fans of the first game. Hope it was worth it.

Guess I won't have to choose between this and BF1 for my time this fall :(

I would love to hear the opinion of someone who played Titanfall and felt like the AI was "filler" or "not necessary", because playing the technical test only further solidifies my opinion that they were actually a good part of Titanfall's gameplay.

Those people abandoned the game long ago and have no legit opinion on the game.

Probably not possible but I'll ask anyway:

I want to play as a human soldier (don't like playing as robots in games, don't ask me why :D) but I also want to keep the grappling hook. But the look of the soldier seems to be 'locked' to the main ability. Is there any way around this?

Played some more tonight and it's just not doing it for me. Cramped interiors, no sidearm, horrendous rodeoing, no AI... this honestly feels like it was made by a completely different developer.

I will say that the amped hardpoint is a fantastic way to incentivize defending a point. Before there was little incentive to hang around a point after it was captured but this should really change tactics in that mode.

Im really just crushed they botched this so bad as there's no other franchise that feels like Titanfall.

No. The tactical ability you choose pre-determine what you look like, for better identification in engagements.

Not having the opportunity to try the beta till the next weekend, this thread is depressing to read through. I loved the first game, it is easily one of my favourite multiplayer of recent years. All the impressions from folks who loved the first game are disappointing to hear. The only folks who seem content with it are the ones who passed on R1 and don't know what they're missing.

I'll give it a go when the next weekend happens but I fear for what I'll think.

The slower pace ruins it :( feels like the gameplay is barely better then BO3 which I thought was pretty tame. Hopefully the devs maybe change something to make it feel more like TF1.

I was already sold before the beta, so after playing it for a couple of hours I made my mind: bought! And some friends as well, even when playing with friends is near impossible right now... Well, cant wait for october 28th. Now back to Rainbow Six Siege...

They fucked it up. They just had to build on the first game, but nope, they turned it into CoD with mechs.

I had so much fun playing Tifanfall 1, finally a game that was different than CoD and every clone. Finally a console shooter with fast movement speed. You had to move constantly, stand still and you were dead. Now I see campers. And where are the Titans?!

I've always wanted to play TF1, was excited to try this out and its boring and generic. This is nothing like what ive seen of part 1, it feels like a tacked on MP for a single player game, kinda feels like the forgettable crysis 2 MP. I'd rather play blops3 and I don't even like cod. Sorry for my rant, it just looked so good from the previews :/

Seems they made a very active decision to try and diverge towards Call of Duty gameplay.
Feels like I am playing black ops 3. Very sad decision. Should have built upon the foundations of the first game not tore them down.

Ok, thought so. Well, robot-soldier it is then.

Impressions: Played a few rounds yesterday and more today. Since I never played the OG Titanfall I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. First impressions where not good at all. Bounty Hunt isn't the best mode for a first impression, or keeping a team up with the objectives. Pilot vs Pilot is also not the best Showcase for the game I guess, and Amped Hardpoint felt very much the same because the Titans either show up in the last minute or not at all. Also the tutorial fails to explain anything about how the Titans work.

BUT after sleeping on it and playing a few rounds of Bounty Hunt today everything seemed to click. After figuring out the games mechanics, what to do with Titans (your own, enemy Titans, allied Titans, batterie ejects, refills etc) and people playing the objective it was actually very fun.

The maps are problematic though. if you make a game about wall running and fast movement don't make maps with wide open plains that feel ripped out of Battlefield.

I'm looking forward to someone at Respawn explaining some of these, in my opinion awful, design decisions.

I can't believe a game that I just KNEW would be a no doubt Day 1 buy is so underwhelming. The changes me no sense whatsoever to me, and completely kills the game. When you are going up against Battlefield 1(Day 1 no doubt for me) and COD head on and you make changes to the game that alienates your core audience that tells me its time for a delay and a little more time rethinking strategy.

Damn, TF1 videos are making me want to play it again. No longer have my 360 and Gen 10, but I could hold my nephews xbone hostage for a bit if I can find a cheap copy.

I don't get the decisions either. Now, it's going up against Infinite Warfare while not standing out like the first game. It has lost a big part of its identity that would separate it from CoD and Battlefield.

Played all night. Had a lot of fun. Needs some work tho

1 - Titans need to be more accessible. Didn't feel as much like Titanfall as Pilot Wars

2 - Make wall running as easy as in 1. It was much harder to traverse the terrain even with the grap hook than in 1 I felt

3 - Titans need a defense to the pilot attack, jump, grap hook, attack jump, grenade combo. Pretty much makes the Titan helpless once rodeo starts.

Actually really like the Titan set body types with gun types. Makes the matches more chess like. Didn't mind the fast TTK either as the respawn times were so good. Hope they have some cosmetic customization for our Titans come release.

So far bounty hunter is the only alright mode cause for some reason you can get titans faster.
The map itself is okay.

I guess everything is just okay.

Actually uninstalled the Tech Test already. Kind of sad. I was looking forward to this, but I am really not feeling it. Between the gameplay changes, not so great maps and basically only liking one mode, this is not for me.

Played some Titanfall 1 this morning after played alot of the Titanfall 2 Tech test. Am I the only one that thinks that Titanfall 1 actually looks better than Titanfall 2? The maps looks much better with more impressive skylines, effects, sunflares etc?

From what ive seen tf2 looks a big disappointment on the scale of gears 2 and halo reach. Ill get a chance to play it next week but my hype is really deflated. Titans are operating as kill streaks, maps have lots of open space, looks slower, titan battery mechanics looks blah, 3rd person view when getting into titan is really stupid, kill time looks really low :(

Also, when moving in your Titan i Titanfall 2 it sounds really "bad"? It sounds like moving in an Knights armor but in Titanfall 1 it really sounds like moving in a big robot/mech.

I think they should listen to the critics here and on reddit an just postpone the release to 1Q17. Overhaul the maps, bring back AI in every mode, bring back the titan timer, bump up th speed etc. Or just a simple tip for the devs:

Just play your own game called "Titanfall 1" again and you know what to have to change for Titanfall 2.

Releasing this game in between Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1 and Infinite/Modern Warfare isn´t the best choice either. What were they thinking? A release in spring would be so much better for them.

Watch it break sales records across the board. Every time someone's favorite film/tv show/game, etc., gets a sequel or a remake there are a very vocal minority who aren't happy with the new direction. And they're so vocal that they can make you believe they are more numerous than they are. Then said film/tv show/game gets released and the average consumer consumes and studios make millions. Ghost Busters recent remake is a prime example of very vocal internet rage being nothing more than impotent.

TL;DR

It will break all kinds of sales records, and many people who complain about it will not only preorder, but will get the digital collectors edition for big $$$.

Not when it's released is sandwiched in the two weeks between Battlefield 1 and COD:IW/MW Remaster are released.

.
On one hand I agree, on the other I spent two entire games on the first cap point keeping it amped. I never even saw a player from the opposing team and I was by far the highest scoring player, like double the next closest player. Needless to say we won in a landslide and it was BORING.

Damn was not expecting so much negativity, gonna boot it up in a sec to see if I like it...

Loved the first game.

Respawn pls, this game can be tweaked to be great. More AI, more movement, Attrition, more drop pods, Titan shields. Doo eet.

I can't believe they tied Titans to kill streaks etc. I'm not very good at COD twitchfests, but I loved the movement in TF1 and the fact that I could stomp around in a Titan a couple of times a match regardless. I seem to remember them saying, at the time of TF1, that it was a very deliberate decision to give everyone the chance to have fun with Titans. What changed?

What the hell am I reading and watching?

Did they actually fuck up Titanfall 2?

I wouldn't have thought it was possible, but then again all I wanted was more of that so-damn-well-tuned first game. The prevalence of AI and everybody-gets-a-titan is core to that.

This was a 100% solid sure bet on the power of the first game alone, but now I'm going to take a cautious step back and see how this thing develops.

EA is really a dick for releasing this just a week before BF1 and super near Call of Duty, no? I gather, Respawn themselves have no control over it, and this ensures EA that FPS fans that don't like the WW1 setting for BF1 has an alternative that's also theirs.

From what I've read, watched, simple fixes for Titanfall 2 are:

- Better maps (which the final game should have, no?)
- Bring Attrition back
- Time for Titans instead of the point padding we have now
- Make mobility better

That's it, yeah? I think it's main problem is, it feels like a Pilots vs Pilots thing, which if it does, why not play Call of Duty instead since it does that better? (Well, Black Ops 3 at least). It's Titanfall but it's like Respawn got confused and made Pilotfall with Titans instead.

It's still a fun game, and I think the tweaks that can make it even better aren't super major that Respawn needs to re-tool something from the ground up, no?

Yes I'll take a 3 month delay to have the best shooter of this gen rather than... this.
