Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

I just played a chunk more games today, and I've landed at this being a good game. But not a particularly fun one, if that is possible. And then I finally loaded up Titanfall 1 on PC, and plugged in a controller to get that same-y feel with how I'm playing Titanfall 2. A lot of the elements that I feel make this a less fun experience can easily be tweaked or added. And hell---they might already be there, just not in this build. My major complaints revolve around Titans. They aren't fun.

Titans being called down just warp in close to the surface. In Titanfall 1, you can look up and see them rocket down. You even see the carrier's disengage to release the Titan before it lands. And that sound effect as it roars down is amazing. To top it off, the impact hitting the ground is badass. Titanfall 2 lacks all of that. I feel no excitement calling in this goliath of a killing machine. I wish I could find a good youtube video to show it all off...

I like Titanfall 2. I'll pray the Respawn gods hear us and make some tweaks though. Ever since I played Titanfall 1, I looked forward to seeing what a sequel would do. How it would expand and evolve. I nearly shit myself when part 2 was officially announced, and I upgraded my graphics card just for it. I'll buy the game either way at this point. Here's to hoping.
This the feeling of calling a titan in T1 was epic the first time I did it, and always.

It's funny how many players treat bounty hunt like TDM only trying to rack up their K/D and end up losing despite having a ton of kills.

I agree. This applies to every multiplayer game these days though, unfortunately.

It makes finding that random group of teammates that coordinate and dominate much more rewarding.

After a few more hours I'm having a great time. I've only played Bounty so far, but that seems to be both the most popular mode and best received from what I'm reading.

watching some Titanfall 1 attrition gameplay and now I feel even worse about this game. The TTK in Titanfall 2 by comparison to the original is starkly COD. The maps, as I remembered seeing, are far,far more equipped to facilitate continuous movement. Way more AI, like way, way more. Titans are way more resilient. The only solice I have in this is that I didn't sink hundreds of hours in TF1 because I couldn't. But I just don't really understand why they changed so many things that worked.

Yeah, this isn't doing it for me at all. Too slow, not impressed with the two maps, the modes are mostly terrible(bounty hunt is okay) and most of the changes only lessen the game. Doesn't come close to blowing me away like I expected it to. A real shame because R1 hooked me from the alpha.

I'd also like to add that even though the movement isn't as fast and fluid in the original game (this is partially due to the level design) the grappling hook is ace to improve that. However, since it's an equippable piece of kit it kinda screws up that feeling for a lot of people. I kinda think it should be standard.

Having fun with the tech test mechanics-wise l, just some technical (heh) and ui stuff that I'd like to see fixed or changed.

My party always disbands after a match and we always get put into different matches after one match together. I would also like your party members or team members in general to show up different colours on radar. Can't tell where someone is when they ask me to come to them or whatever.

Also, as far as titnans, I've done the melee combo a few times and I seemed to initiate it by just mashing melee, is that really how you do it?

Also can you heal your own titan with a power cell? If so how do you do it?

I loved TF1 and iam really diggin this TR2 multi-test.

Glad they got rid of those stupid cards and love the grappling hook. Maybe add a agility type operator to bring back that tr1 parkour feel.

Cant wait to see whats in the full game.

1. Grapple Hook should be standard.
2. Titans should be on a timer.
3. Titans should still have loadouts. Class based on core ability.
4. Grapple hook should be faster.
5. Titans should have at least one dash and the dash should recharge a bit quicker.
6. Zip lines, especially on a giant map like homestead.
7. Increase the TTK to what it was in Titanfall.

These are the changes i think would make for a better game closer to Titanfall even if the base gameplay has been slowed down and the maps aren't designed around fast movement around the environment like the first.

After, spending a bit of time this morning playing Titanfall and getting my ass handed to me as I haven't played in months, the speed difference between the games is very noticeable. It's obvious the game is slowed down for casuals, but there is sill a game here that can be closer to Titanfall than CoD

Yeah, upon playing a couple more rounds, releasing this in October would be suicide.

February is empty, right? That could be a solid slot.

Whats the benefit of having auto sprint on? Is it just when you move the stick forward it automatically sprints?
yes. i leave this on for pilot only.
They need to make the Titans a lot less shit as well, my favourite part of Titanfall feels like a complete afterthought. The Titans don't even feel as good as Titanfall 1's to play as.

I can't fully judge them on the Titan play yet since we havent' seen al the titans with all the abilities. Now, i can say that not allowing your own customization is a poor decision. They should at least allow you to pick your weapon and tactical.

Agreed on all points. Grapple standard is a must! And they're slow as balls. Needs to be quicker. (Look to advance warfare for inspiration on their grapple) Just make it standard and give the other abilities on a longer cool down or something.

Game feels much slower and the maps are far too open.

Also - Spawn camping is an abomination in this game. It's far too easy to set up or choke spawns.

The time to kill has been heavily decreased from the look of things. That will ruin any flow of the movement and lead people to more camping.
I was just about to ask this actually I never played the first bit I remember a big point was the time to kill wasn't as small as it was like in cod but I'm not seeing it

I thought this was some perk?

I only played two games but is it not?

That's my understanding too. Although I'd rather have the perk outline the opponents for the one user equipped with it, not his whole team. Maybe add enemies on the teammates radar, but don't outline them.
Mentioning the radar, I think the current system of "someone is shooting in that direction" isn't really useful. I mostly use it to run away from opponents rather than locate them, since going in that direction without knowing their position is the best way to walk into their line of fire.

After 6hrs or so playing I'm pretty bummed out at the changes went from a day one purchase to wait and see horrible decisions being made here I don't get it. Hope they can tweak enough to make it enjoyable it really should be delayed to get things back to what made the first game so amazing.

All you do is pick up a battery and re-enter your titan and it should repair it somewhat.

That entering the Titan animation is sexy as hell, why the fuck did they change that.

Besides the movement and TTK downgrades, the loss of the amazing entering Titan animation is my biggest issue with this game.

Seriously, if Titanfall 2 was the original game and we were playing Titanfall 1 right now it would make more sense. This shit is shockingly worse in every conceiveable way.

It comes down to that in Titanfall 1 you had an encounter with a bot AI or another player and moved on to the next encounter without too much down time between encounters. Amazing pace for a game with large maps. There is a interview from TF1 launch with someone from Respawn that explains it better then I, but that part is gone. One more thing is the screen is way too cluttered! That was one of my gripes in TF1 as well.

Movement as a whole needs to be sped up. It's not just the base ground speed but things like the map design, ejections, grapples, wallruns, and Titans. The game is just way too slow.

I was just about to ask this actually I never played the first bit I remember a big point was the time to kill wasn't as small as it was like in cod but I'm not seeing it
I think it's not that the ttk has been lowered it's that you're dying faster as a result of the bad maps, worse parkour etc. In titanfall 1 if you started getting shot from nowhere you could break their line of sight extremely fast and survive, not so much here.

I only played on the PC but it seems MUCH lower in TF2, I always thought the TTK was low on Titanfall but from what I've played so far it's laughably low. For me it's taken a feature I didn't like then smeared shit all over it.

Played for a while last night with some friends. All of us agreed that the game felt SLOW. Huge downgrade from the original. Also, the first game was great about giving you a sense of what you should be doing, this one just feels aimless.

It's quite telling that this game has so many people using the sniper where as the first no one would use it except the very best (or very stupid) as the game was set up for close combat mainly.

I guess I'll wait for the sequel to Titanfall 1. No buy for me.
Yeah, I freaking loved first Titanfall. I played it so much, maps were so great, different from each other but full of great wall run routes. And Titan gameplay I loved, it was like other game inside this fast FPS. But this TF2 test has showed me that maps aren't nearly as good, now you know where people are coming, there aren't as many ways to get around as in first game. Titans are less frequent and Titangameplay isn't as exciting as it used to be. I loved bots in first game, they brought so much to gameplay loop. Hopefully they bring more modes with bots and of course CTF and especially Last Titan Standing. But right now this just isn't enough for me, I don't have as much fun as with first game.
