Overwatch Sombra ARG - No one is ready for Sombra [Up2: New Model Leaks]

If you think the people complaining in this thread are bad, holy shit the meltdowns on battle.net are hysterical.

That is so fake. That was in the very corner of the screen, here is no way anyone would've spotted that unless it was staged. Who would even be looking up there at that time?

Some people try too hard at this lol
Not to mention the YouTube account with no uploaded videos besides this and only 5 subscribers.

Again though, there was a countdown on an official Blizzard source that was ticking down hours that lasted from one day to the next. When you do something like that, people are going to expect things, and when you deliver nothing, they're going to be mad.

Blizzard played that card, not fans. You can't just throw out something that is leading up to a very specific day and time. When you do that, I think your fans are deserved something. If you aren't ready to give that something, don't play that card.

They did get more breadcrumbs. It's not what they wanted, and I understand that, but they were never lead to believe they were getting anything more from the company. The hype is us.

Squire mentioned it above nicely that our viewpoints are not mutually exclusive. Not once have I stated that I don't think people shouldn't be frustrated. I get you. There were some people saying that. I can't vouch for them. I'm just the guy that came in laughing at those drive bys (and not-so drive bys) saying the ARG should end and basically demanding Blizzard should release the character (or whatever they are currently doing) now because they are upset. The ones that don't see the people currently in the discord channels tearing apart the websites, viewing pictures through filters, etc. I didn't care that people vented their frustration. Hell, GAF would be boring if we didn't have that. It was the whiney "gimme gimme" that caused my original inflammatory response. I've had similar discourse either here or on Reddit when the Sombra/Ana confusion occurred as well. Lot of immediacy with people.

Meanwhile, there are 8mill + probably playing and 10 of us talking about it on GAF :)

Is that all you got? We need MORE whining!

Seriously though, they've obviously put a lot of work into this, so just enjoy the ride or go do something else and it'll be out in no time, yes?

I morbidly want it so Sombra doesn't ever get released until all ARGs are solved.

It's only at 5%? At this rate, this won't finish until middle of next month.

New map going live in the first week of September. New hero is announced at appears on PTR at the same time or a week later. Then a week after that new hero goes live. Sounds right to me.

Don't be fooled by the ARG. It's not going to be announced any sooner just because people inflate their expectations because of stupid teasers!

Someone is saying he saw Sombra for a split second.

He got downvoted hard so i doubt it's real but does anyone know where this character is from?

Why is Sombra so hyped? Ana didn't get anything like this.

Its not photoshopped but damn it looks so out of place. Has anyone reversed image search just the "Sombra" here and see what comes up?

EDIT: Its shopped. Someone said the EXIF data mentions the use of photoshop when you download the original.

How funny would it be tho if that user was an undercover Blizzard Employee, photoshopped the 3D art of Sombra into that image to make it look fake.

My guess is it's because she was teased for as long as Ana has been teased. People are thirsty. They wanna know who Sombra is.
It's curiosity above all else.

That's a 'shop. "Sombra" has way more Anti-Aliasing going on than everything else in this picture.
Also I'm pretty sure I've seen that character model before.

Why is Sombra so hyped? Ana didn't get anything like this.
1) We knew a lot more about Ana than we do about Sombra. We'd seen photos of her when she was young, knew she was Pharah's mother, that she was a sniper etc.
2) A large amount of the fanbase actually thought Sombra was Ana's codename even up until just after she was officially announced.
3) Sombra being a hacker just works really well for this kind of ARG stuff.

Sombra is like Street Fighter's Sheng Long. A perpetual wild goose chase that may or may not end up in an actual character (that's not actually Sheng Long, or Sombra in this case)

Ive had that thing opened all day, and it just updated i went to check and theres a crab on the battle/net thingy not the webpage but the log on tool thing but oh well maybe just an error thing.

That's what I'm saying. The crab on the launcher indicates there's an issue connecting to the news server. It's not new.

Because the last good thing Overwatch is missing from TF2 is Spy. The game is still incomplete with that omission.

Bullshit. I still believe Sombra isn't going to be what people expect. All that talk about "information" being power, suggests distortion and battlefield awareness to me. Not spy. I wouldn't be surprised if one of Sombra's skills is to either place "cameras" on a map, or to hack an enemy to see their viewcam.

Well yeah.

Blizzard sucks, so I'm sure they won't actually do the right thing and add a character with a disguise kit and backstab and sentry sapper.

rip overwatch you had a good run

Kaplan seemed very adamant about not adding characters that can go invisible, because they don't think it can balance well (they apparently experimented with it a lot internally), yet people still assume Sombra will have that ability for some reason.

People datamined some voice lines that suggest her being able to go invinsible.

Stealth is honestly the last thing I want added to Overwatch, it's almost always anti fun to play against.

True story. If they add a stealth offensive hero, quick play is going to be completely ruined. Its going to be 5 Sombras and a Mercy or something in every game forever.

So far many voice lines datamined have been misunderstood out of context. People thought that certain maps or gamemodes were coming, but a lot of that turned out to be bonus voice lines for the Summer Games event. A number of the voice responses seem to be situational awareness stuff they are continually trying to improve. "Enemy spotted" lines or "Enemy is hiding" lines don't have to mean someone is invisible, it could just be communicating that there's an enemy at that position. I really hope they revamp the voice wheel to make it more useful honestly.

There are zero datamined stuff so far that specifically points to Sombra.

Glancing over this thread just reminds me of the Portal 2 ARG where the early release was just a 13 hour early unlock on Steam at midnight on the day it was supposed to come out anyway

Anyone have a breakdown on whats happened and why everyone is freaking out about blizzard.

One of two things, maybe both:

People are just tired of the ARG making the wait for Sombra harder, everyone assumed she would be revealed yesterday (or today, time zones). Now we are stuck waiting for that website to finish, uh, loading....yep still 5%.

That or, I think peeps are still overreacting about this:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1269045&highlight=

Which, is a valid reason to react like that, but in the end I dont think Blizzard would ever do that kind of damage.

I thought the point of ARGs is to drop deliberate puzzles that lead to info that in itself has clues to the next puzzle/info. This whole thing seems so arbitrary, or the clues are way to vague. Like yesterday there was a countdown that led to.....something and now people have no clue what is happening.

Yeah I wouldn't mind so much if there were things to work on but alot of this ARG seems to consist of making people sit on their hands and wait for Blizzard to activate something when they feel like it.

A character whose main ability is to allow screen cheating? I...love it!

What exactly was oh so terrible about the Summer Games stuff? It's more optional 'free' content with a new shits and giggles game mode.

Come on now, "rare" items that are only rare for the poor (who have bought a full priced game, this isn't a free-to-play game), getting duplicates from summer games which awards you coins that you can't use to buy the few skins that you want from them.
Basically, if you're a completionist, you gotta rely on putting a lot of money into it and rely on heavy RNG

It's a big middle finger to the customers, and has no other purpose than racking up money.

You should watch Jim Sterling's Jimquisition about it, he explains really well how fucked up it actually is.

Basically it's everything that is wrong with micro-transactions in video games.

Even if you're not a compleionist it sucks, I didn't get the one skin I wanted so now every time I see someone with it, it pisses me off. Their greed has made me enjoy the game less, I opened 55 boxes and that still wasn't enough because of the duplicates.

I would say that energy systems, XP boosters and pay2win gameplay items and the Diablo 3 RMAH are everything that's wrong with microtransactions in video games, but I guess I could get upset over unimportant cosmetics too.

Stealth is honestly the last thing I want added to Overwatch, it's almost always anti fun to play against.

And on top of that, a lot of characters already have high versatility towards flanking and getting up close. I don't really see where stealth can be adding anything more.

Yeah. This would be supported by the things said about her in that Ana/Soldier 76 comic they release around Ana's launch. Not a stealth person but a hacker.

We can always have an invisibility hero if its done right.

They shouldn't be able to OHK

They should have a fixed amount of 100% invisibility where firing is impossible but still can get randomly hit

They should have a sound signal when they come out of invisibility

The rest is up to the imagination
