Every time I enter the gaming side I'm hoping for a huge NEO leak at the top of the page. Once I scan the first 5 or so topics and they aren't NEO related I am heart broken. It's going to be 2017 isn't it? =(

PS4K is literally the best name they could come up with.

There is no other choice imo.

Pretty much.

They want to make a console with 4K features in mind and sell it to people with 4K TVs.
They have the lucky coincidence to have a product with the 4 number already in it.
The company has a tradition to choose names that are strictly connected to the purpose or main feature of the product (Playstation, Move, Playstation VR, Playstation Portable, etc).

Name will be PS4K. With the K in an other font/color.

It's also something that'll confuse and possibly prevent people from buying it if they don't have a 4k TV yet.

I honestly don't expect a name that just adds a letter after the ps4. It's probably going to be a word.

No, from working at Best Buy companies drive home feature sets of major sellers for the year.

They would be screaming at employees that the PS4K works on all HD TVs and would be leveraging that knowledge in strategies and pitches.

"This system is fantastic now, and its only going to get better when you upgrade your set to 4K"

You gotta upsell man!

Only Two more weeks to go.

Holy shit. lol

I like PS4 Turbo from the last page.

Don't think it will be PS4X or PS4S because of the Xbox.

I think PS4K is the safest bet especially as Microsoft will be marketing the Scorpio on it's 4K credentials. Sony be like, "Yeah, we did that a year ago"

From my experience as a customer going to various best buys across different cities (and hanging out with friends who have worked at best buys), the vast majority of my visits consisted of reps generally not being around to be able to convey the features of a specific device, and most customers seem to prefer to stick to their assumption than seek out a rep to clarify things.

Then again, best buys over here don't have any sales based incentives or quotas for their reps, whereas I've heard best buys in others places do, so yeah, the "upsell!" or "get that sale!" nature of the reps may differ from where you've worked.

Why am I getting my hopes up that we'll see a Game Informer cover reveal at the beginning of the conference week for Red Dead and then first footage, running on Neo, at the event...

...goddammit it's E3 all over again. :( lol

PS4K is cute, but as mentioned, it may put off those who don't have a 4K TV, and won't make much sense when the PS5K rolls around.

I think PS4.5 does a pretty good job of conveying, "Still a PS4, but better, yet still not quite a PS5."

Is there any precedence for Sony keeping the code/project name for final release?

PS4 Neo is a great name.

Edit :What if they drop the '4'? I can see them dropping the' 5' if Neo exceeds their sales expectations.

I doubt it. The Morpheus became PSVR, after all.

Don't think they will go with PS4K .
It makes it seem like you need a 4k tv to use the system .
You can bet a good amount of people that buy the up garde going to be using 1080p tvs .

Ultra seem like the name they will go with because it will associate it's self with 4K & it will also make it sound powerful.

Honestly, I don't really care what it's called --Just gimme a list of upcoming, current and older PS4 games from 1st & 3rd party that're confirmed to be getting patched to take advantage of the more powerful hardware.
In 13 days.

Hopefully Sony have set up a system where the hardware can boost games by default without patches through the more powerful hardware, while having to patch games higher than their previously set locked res/fps going forward

That would be far more of a game changer for games previously released than being locked to PS4 levels with previous games and then patched games in the future.

Xbox One S does it.

But considering how tight false advertising laws are in Europe and how the US like a good lawsuit, is it a really good idea? It is a games console first...

The console's focus is high fidelity and 4K content, they aren't promising every game will be native 4K, and any lawsuit would just be slapped down.

I start to believe the same way.... otherwise we should have had some real leaks from insiders at this time

If all content can be upscaled to 4K by the console, then what ground would there be for a lawsuit? The fact that not all content is natively 4K? Also, a name doesn't promise anything.

I still don't think they'll go with PS4K though. PS4+ would have been my first guess, but that could be confusing because of PS Plus. Maybe PS4 Premium / Pro / Performance, but then again, PS4P doesn't sound so good imo.

Neo is already leaked though. Only the device itself isn't (and possibly final specs). Remember that the slim PS4 is supposed to release mid September according to rumors and it only leaked a couple of days ago, a month before its retail release. If Neo is supposed to be released in October / November, then not leaking means nothing yet.

Ps4.5? Awful name. Ps4k is brilliant and the whole idea is to push 4k adoption.

Super PS4 2 Turbo Hyper. I can't see how they would decide to call it anything else.

On a more serious note. What about hardware BC for the PS3 in the Neo? That would be epic.

As nice as that would be, not going to happen :(

the only way PS4 is getting any sort of BC is via emulation, and Sony just aren't that interested in it, they feel (wrongly, in my opinion) that their cloud service is they way to go..

Enlighten us on the false advertising legalities, and how a lawsuit would be relevant here :) this should be interesting.

Call me crazy but I still hope it's 2017 with just the reveal this year.
Hope that Scorpio spooked Sony a bit and they decided to delay the release for a stronger machine, but yeah I know this is a pipe dream :p

Only Two more weeks to go.

Part of the store's defence was that, even though the Euro 2016 games were not broadcast in 4K, the TVs had the ability to "upscale" the footage to improve picture quality.

However, the ASA rejected these responses saying it still felt consumers were likely to have believed they could watch the matches in "genuine 4K definition".

Neo will be able to do real 4K but checkerboard rendering gives a better result then lowering the settings to reach 4K without checkerboard rendering.

Again, very strict advertising laws

This is a once in a lifetime chance with PS4K, just need clear marketing.

I like PS4-X and PS4+ as well.
Ultra or Premium if it's not PS4K
That would be dope.

Least likely: They could just keep it as PS4 and have the premium look differentiate between the two
