What about 5TF?

According to Digital Foundry that is the performance from the third power state of the Polaris 10 chip.

Second power state is the rumored target for the PS4 Neo.

I was actually contesting that 480 was closer to 6TF than 5.5 ...

And about the power state, I think I was the first one to actually point that out - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=208268335&postcount=958

When you have $250 model out there that will get the majority of the sales the price of the premium model is not as important. The product is not aimed at the same customers. They are charging $399 for an accessory and you think they won't go above that for a luxury version of the current PS4?

I don't think there's any way Sony can sell Neo for twice as much as PS4 (in regards to PS4 $250, Neo $500 speculation). That value proposition just doesn't add up, assuming all Neo will do is give games a little better resolution or frame rate.

PS4 $300, Neo $400 is most likely imo. Wouldn't be surprised if PS4 drops another 50 bucks early next year as well.

Sure i'd take it, along with good AA. That's the main offense of this gen visually IMO.

Of course i don't think the reveal will feature anything less than the specs detailed in the leak, or much more for that matter, but that's just what i'd personally want.

If your going to call someone a troll, atleast address them directly. I'm serious when i say that NEO could be marginally downgraded and still be priced at 399, and that would better control temperatures and heat.

I don't want Sony to blow this thing's thermal budget on what is essentially a glorified refresh of components. It should be as, or more power efficient than OG PS4 was when it launched, and that means no sounding like a plane taking off.

Isn't that what the slim is for? Give me power if the unit is loud then I'll wear headphones. I used to work on fighter jets it sounds nothing like a jet engine, there isn't a high pitched screech to it that hurts your ears.

Isn't $499 way too expensive? I mean, MS got laughed at pretty hard 3 years ago when they announced the price for Xbox One, even though Kinect was included.

I could see $449 if the specs are upped a bit

Stays away from the same shock as $499, has a bit of a price premium for a premium unit to add to the perception of quality, and likely has a bit higher profit margin built in since Neo won't be produced in the same numbers as the standard PS4/Slim.

it's not necessarily that she'd be pissed or that she cares what I buy, but explaining to her that it's a slightly better PS4 would be a hard sell when...I already have a PS4
Start today my friend, tell her you expect some kind of "iphone 6 to 6s" type of upgrade... "But it's not sure, it's just a rumor" just so you get a sample of what to expect or maybe ease the official announcement. That's what I did, so far so good lol

$100 is not enough price differentiation.

Sony is a world class hardware company, if they release another absurdly loud console then they should get criticized significantly for it.

There is no excuse for how loud the ps4 is.

I think you're overestimating the amount of console players willing to pay $500 for a box that plays the exact same games. Sony still wants to sell the systems despite it being targeted for "premium users"

Given the leak about the weight, I'd guess this thing has a pretty beefy cooling unit to keep it quiet.

disagree, it puts the Neo at a position where its a much easier upsell for someone considering a PS4, while still providing the cheaper option for people that just don't care about graphics

Don't think they care which one you buy one as long as you buy one. Hardware is a one time deal. As long as you buy games and PS Plus they will be happy.

Unless someone can provide some details on how many PS4 Neo units Sony plans to move and what percentage of customers they expect to buy each particular model we are just guessing what their expectations are. I don't think they plan to have it sell any where near as well as the slim. The might go with $450 which doesn't sound as bad, but $499 is definitely not off the table.

Agh, I just realized that this thing is streaming at the same exact time as my two hour Wednesday class. I hate to catch something so momentous secondhand.

At a 100 dollar price difference the slim would be the new "Tard pack". It makes no sense to kill the sales of the high margin console the slim at 299.99 for a low margin 399.99 dollar device. I think there needs to be 150 dollar price difference to keep the slim viable. I think 299.99 slim 449.99 NEO is most likely. If Sony is feeling like throwing money way 249.99 slim and 399.99 NEO. We have seen Sony has went after big time profits off the hardware with a measly 50 dollar price drop in 3 years.

Agreed. $150 to $200 is my estimate for a price gap.

What if the PS4 Slim is $250?

That means $150 of difference

That is definitely a possibility. I'm going with $250 Slim and $450 Neo.

Looking at the successful consoles through history shows that $250-$400 is the range you want to be in.

However Sony already has an affordable console on the market so you can make the argument that they might be able to get away with 499.

But if you look at the rumored specs it looks like a 399 machine. My guess is that sony will give us the best 399 console that they can make every 3 years.

I don't think NEO costs Sony approximate to 399 to consumers at all, i think they will be making bank with this refresh since all they had to actually add in was a new GPU(that is essentially, HDMI 2.0 and a redesign of the externals.

That's why its iterative, the base of the tech is already made and proven, like New 3DS.

So, if Sony comes at PS5 with a true PS4 approach, there would be a much bigger jump because all the components would actually be priced around the same as the PS4 was when it came out.

aka, I think Sony will go for 250 for PS4 slim and make bank. They will also go for PS4 NEO at 399 and also make bank.

I'm bracing myself for a $449-499 Neo. If the PS4 will only drop down to $299, $399 seems really cheap for something that has over 200% the GPU performance on top of higher HDMI standard to support 4k and UHD blu-rays.

Can't believe we're 2 weeks away from this reveal. My price prediction is $500 from the Neo. Just think about it. The PS4 launched at $400 so an upgraded 4K console with better graphics and more powerful overall will not be priced at $400 dollars. Sony is greedy.

Also, I hope when the Neo boots up the first thing we see should be the Matrix numbers. Pretty cool right?
blue-matrix.gif~c200

I know, I'm pushing it.

If the rumors about the components of the neo not costing that much more than the slim are true, that may be actually what Sony's banking on. Get people in stores for the lower slim price point, and tempt them with a much more powerful system for only $100 more. People get a much more powerful console for only a bit more money making them feel like they got a great deal out of it. And Sony makes a higher profit on that sale as well.

This. Especially since most of those "premium users" already paid $399 for a box 3 years ago, that they believed was to be good for at least 5 or 6 years.

This whole NEO thing is horrible to begin with, but as a PlayStation fan who wants the latest technology I'm likely to get one, IF the pricing is right.

I'm not sure if Scorpio or NEO was first, but if I was CEO at SIE I would've just ignored what MS is doing with Scorpio and stick to the regular PS4 (and release a slim just like previous generations) until announcing PS5 in 2019. Just my thoughts on all this.

But Xbox S has UHD blu ray, HDMI 2.0, and is cheaper than it was before in its current incarnation.

With NEO, your essentially paying for a new GPU and some upclocks. This unit was built for profitability the same as Slim was, just not to that degree.

That's why it makes sense for both of them to be priced at a mainstream level price, just one is super low end version that anybody could potentially impulse buy, and the other premium edition that exists in an higher tier of price but is still affordable for the general consumer if they want the higher tier option.

Where in the world is this $250 PS4 price point coming from? It's going to be $299.99, it's not going to be cheaper than the Xbox one, that would be ridiculous.

It's thoroughly entertaining that people here want Sony to have the most powerful thing imaginable and somehow magically want to disipate all that heat without moving any air. If you want a quiet console place your bets on the Slim, not Neo.

Why not? With no UHDBR drive, HDMI 2.0, and a huge redesign focused on material savings, i'd think it made sense to be a decent bit cheaper.

So I take it you'll buy if it's $399 then?

Sony said they're doing this because they noticed there's a fair amount of people jumping to PC mid gen. Nothing to do with Scorpio either, as they planned it even before launch.

What are the odds neo gets released this year? Ready to trade my ps4 towards it but I dont wanna miss out on the last guardian and gravity rush 2. But then I run the risk of missing out on pre orders if its put up immediatley then releases in march.

odds are very good. October is my guess

100%. They aren't announcing it in Sep and launching in Mar, that would be incredibly stupid on their part. Why even bother making the event so early, right before the holiday season and kill their own sales.

I might be. I don't know what it is yet.

Good to hear! I dont have a 4k tv but I hope the neo will also allow more graphical effects and higher framrates that I would notice on my 1080p vizio

I don't either but will feel enormous pressure to buy one after I get it, lol. I'm ready to move to 4K, 1080 feels blurry to me now.
