Thank You for watching!

jesus christ this show got heavy when it came to
Steven's breakdown
.

Did NOT expect it to get like that.

And I might've missed it but I'm hoping I'm not the only one who saw this

As someone who severely suffers from anxiety (and the occasional bout of depression), that song hits me at a deep, emotional level. :(

In the SDCC panel, Rebecca said she wrote Here Comes a Thought while she was going through a really dark period and had to "talk herself down from a ledge". Hearing it in the context of this episode was really touching.

So nice I had to watch it twice. And yeah, I cried. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?
I don't really want to fight, I just need a hug

People expected this to be a period episode?
I am really fucking glad it wasn't

Garnet best gem
"Hold the phone. Now give the phone to me."

Shiiiiet, and people tryna act like this wasn't known since the beginning

Hooooooooo boy, does it ._.

I didn't know that. She must have dealt with some nasty emotional baggage in her past. :(

ok, so can anyone tell me why they saw Rose what was that symbolizing?

That's a complicated subject. The most recent development with Rose is that Steven learned that she shattered Pink Diamond, and by extension Steven is Rose. He's having to deal with the idea that his mom wasn't perfect, and it ties in to his own failings with Bismuth, Jasper, and Eyeball. Her manifestation can also represent Steven feeling like he's not living up to Rose's standards and feeling judged by her. Both of those ideas explain why Rose had an angry expression.

Spirited Away fusion is best fusion.

Official Here's A Thought on youtube.

Will post the soundcloud version as soon as Aivi posts it.

I think it is about time we post our top 5 songs seeing as ranks have been shaken up.

1. Stronger than You
2. Here Comes A Thought
3. It's Over, Isn't It?
4. Do It For Her/Him
5. On The Run

Honorable mentions to Strong in the Real Way and Both of You. Too many good songs to list!
I'm the only one who thinks Comet was the best.

Damn it, I always forget about Greg's songs.

Yea i guess they had all showed a darker side of Rose to Steven, i think this will motivate him to try to save jasper, because thats one of the more significant things he can try to fix.

Best Greg song: What Can I Do
Best Steven song: Be Wherever You Are
Best Garnet song: Here Comes a Thought
Best Pearl song: Do It For Her
Best Amethyst song: Tower of Mistakes

Best song by none of the above: Something Entirely New (Ruby and Sapphire)

I like ranking it thus better.

I'm the only one who thinks Comet was the best?

I like Comet, along with 'Here Comes Mr. Greg', but people seem to forget about Greg's songs. And despite being one of the more loved characters on the snow, I still find it weird that there is a lot of fan art of Young Greg, but very little of Adult Greg.

It's going to be a tough issue to solve. It was clear that Jasper would rather devolve into a monster than to be healed by "Rose", and Steven knows that not everyone can be saved.

The cleanest way to actually resolve Jasper is if Rose is somehow actually Pink Diamond after all. At this point, Jasper thinking she is following her diamond after all is the only acceptable way her character can work with the CGs moving forward.

And since the chance of Rose being Pink Diamond is near nil...

My top 5:

1. Stronger Then You (Still Goat)
2. It's Over Isn't It? (It hurts me this isn't the agreed upon 2nd best.)
3. Love Like You (The song is amazing, but how they implemented the completed song in the show was disappointing, but even till today the song is shrouded with mystery.)
4. Here Comes a Thought (Very beautiful but the song didn't pick up until the middle/end but just the middle and end alone makes it in the top 5.)
5. Do It For Her/Him

Amethyst is overdue for an amazing top 5 song. I always imagine her amazing GOAT song will be very upbeat/showy/WWE-like intro music but with inspiring lyrics.

That's going to be tough to pull off. Since corruption is mental as much as physical, Steven himself might never be able to heal it completely by himself. Either there's something left on earth that provides a hint to means of corruption to reverse engineer, or that'll be a reason to go after Yellow Diamond to get the answers

ok, so can anyone tell me why they saw Rose what was that symbolizing?

Imma insert "Dark side of the Rose/ Rose be evil-or-atleast-not-as-good-as-the-cgs-thought" theory and drink my tea.

Top songs?
1-It's over
2-Here comes a thought
3-Stronger than you
4/5 more Pearl songs

Eh, I think that Jasper realized that Steven isn't Rose when she realized that Steven didn't remember their diamond. IMO he needs to find a way to reach her and her now realizing that he is NOT Rose is gonna be a huge part of that.

Also wonder if she's gonna have a wonky reforming like Centi the first time she was un-bubbled and came out all small and cute. That could help ... she wouldn't be such a physical threat and such could be talked to even if she tries to be violent.

yep this was my interpretation.

Steven turning into Evangelion.

Wait it's already sort of Evangelion.

Use the fucking gem, Steven

Here's mine in terms of how it sounds musically and out of context of their respective episodes

1. Its over isn't it
2. Do it for her
3. Love like you
4. Here comes a thought
5. Stronger than you

If it comes to emotional impact It would probably be something more like this:

1. Stronger than you
2. Its over isn't it
3. Here comes a thought
4. Love like you
5. Like a comet

Well, we already know Steven can communicate with poofed gems if him communicating with The Cluster means anything.

He can try and reach Jasper using his mental abilities and try a heart to heart

Or not

The new episode was excellent, Here Comes a Thought was great and the animation was looking nice. Should have Hori come through a few more times, the action scenes could really use it. This kinda reminded me of the "Joyride" episode just a tiny bit, when they listing their problems then Steven comes through with some real heavy shit lol. His breakdown was the sad one though, especially with the Rose face, still enjoying how they're building that up more and more.

Steven is going to be a wreck when Jeff gets a tiger.

I have so much admiration for this show and the beautiful talented people behind it

We are ranking the wrong things. We should be ranking best musical episodes.

I just re-watched Jailbreak, and that episode not only holds up, but amazes. Still.

In the hands of lesser talent, this episode would likely have been a disaster. Instead, it was exceptional.

Mindfulness and radical acceptance in a single episode, while also furthering Stevonnie as a character, explaining some elements of fusion(glad that hallucination in Beach City Drift was finally explained), and a great new song. I'm extremely impressed.

decent episode... surprised the song is getting so praised around here because it just okay.

The part with stevonnie singing and garnet backing up sounded fine, but I really didn't like garnet's solo stuff at all, such a step down from the vocals in stronger than you.

but alas everyone has different opinions :P

As someone who severely suffers from anxiety (and the occasional bout of depression), that song hits me at a deep, emotional level. :(

As someone who is in the same boat, I agree 100%. This episode was so important to me. Having feelings validated and being told that it's OK to feel that way is just... I dunno. I feel similar to how I felt when I was finally (after 7 years) diagnosed with anxiety/depression.

far better than what was in this episode's song, but I still wouldn't personally call that singing great, especially since parts are clearly autotuned (from her, not talking about the back up singingers that are riddled with autotune) and I hate most autotune, and in general feel that the only good uses of autotune is when you can't hear it at all, or when doing a robot voice.

honestly I find pearl's it's over isn't it to be far better singing than either song.

heck I would say stronger than you has better singing than either song as well :P

I don't think that can be overstated how important this episode was. This was an episode that people of all ages can learn from. Particularly in today's "outrage culture", and this is not a slight against anyone, but it's so very important to realise that in almost every situation we are the one that chooses how we react and feel about something. It's about mindfulness and empowerment. You don't have to be a slave to what someone said or did to you.

This episode strongly encourages, without ever mentioning directly, meditation. Most people think of meditation as sitting cross-legged for hours on end, saying "ohm" and talking about how enlightened you are but even if those things are part of meditation (and they aren't for most people) that's missing the point. Meditation is exactly as Garnet describes:

"To understand your feelings you must see them clearly without running from them... Close your eyes. Breathe. Here in darkness everything's ok...here come's a thought"

There is something so intensely powerful about this one line "here come's a thought" it's easy to see why it's the title of the song. People say meditation is "thinking about nothing" but that's a misnomer. Meditation is about giving your mind a dedicated space and time to think, and at the same time accepting each thought and letting it go and letting yourself move on to the next.

People, particularly younger people, have such a hard time really viewing their thoughts as that, thoughts. You'll be going about your life, something will happen and you can't stop dwelling on it. That moment you embarrassed yourself in class, that time you stole something and felt guilty about it, that time you got bullied. These are all events that seem so important in the moment (and to an extent they are) but the only person with the power to dwell on them is you. You'll be at home, hours after the event and you'll be torturing yourself, focusing so much on this one thought and hoping and praying that it hadn't happened.

But all it was was a thought. Maybe days, weeks, years later these thoughts will resurface and you'll go through all those feelings all over again. It's because in trying to resist it, all you're doing is holding on to it and repressing it over and over. But the second you accept the thoughts as part of you, as soon as you "take a moment to think of just flexibility love and trust" in the context of yourself and your own past you can look at these parts of your life that cause you distress, embrace them, accept them, and let them go.

I love how thoughts are represented as butterflies in this episode. Visualising thoughts is a part of meditation for some people (it certainly is for me personally, I "see" them as bubbles or clouds), and it helps you realise that thoughts in and of themselves cannot possibly harm you. They don't necessarily help you either. They simply exist, they are just a thought floating around in your head. And it is entirely up to you what you do with them.

I loved this episode. Everything about it was so wonderful and so accepting and so utterly brilliant. The fact that a show could so accurately and so perfectly and so lovingly talk about this subject matter and make it approachable for people of all ages is truly the most impressive thing I've seen this show do. It handles such important topics with a deft touch.

I'd say Stronger Than You plays to Estelle's strengths more than Here Comes a Thought does; AJ Michalka
who I didn't even realize voiced Stevonnie lmao
really carried that song. The lyrics, visuals, and context are what elevate it from a nice song to one of the show's more impactful musical numbers.

As far as out-of-context vs. in-context rankings, it's difficult for me to try to place songs above Stronger Than You on either side. That's the superstar-making moment of the series; topping that is no easy feat. I don't think of any song since has done that yet, though some have come close.
