I am just hoping that the system allows for non-4K TV owners to have an upgraded 1080p experience graphically (AA, lighting, etc.) and not just the same one as OG PS4.
Wrong. PS4 firmware 2.50 added the backup to external HDD feature.
Surely we'll at least get an official announcement from Sony today for the event. I mean we're officially one week out.

Official announcement of what? I'm confused.

Sony never announced the event publicly. We just know about it because some invited press people told us.

PS4 had the ability to transfer saves, not complete games and such. That's new to firmware 4.0
Er...it would be impossible to lock out visual effects rendered by the GPU just based on what TV you have.
One of the slides from SDK leak mentioned just that. What devs could add for 1080p users [who ware vast majority now].
Depending on when a Next PS box, which I'm not going to call 5 just yet for my own reasons would hit, if it is within say 3-4 years of launching an expensive "upgrade" version of PS4, if it indeed cannot play PS4 games, it will be interesting to see consumer reaction. If Neo cannot play the new box's games albeit possibly poorly, consumer reaction would be interesting from those that did buy one. I suppose it would be OK as long as cross gen games kept being produced for several years more.
Anyone who actually believe Neo could play PS5 games would only have themselves to blame. Sony will make it very clear that Neo is a PS4, just slightly better.
PS5 being able to play PS4 games is definitely a possibility. However, there will be VERY little reason to allow PS5 games to run on Neo. Because as I kept saying, Neo owners would always be a minority. No one would ever truly base their software decisions around such a limited number of consoles.
I'm hoping that 4.0 will allow us to move games (etc.) directly from one PS4 to another, bypassing the backup/restore process. It would make a PS4 > PS4K transition so much easier.
I could be sworn I transfered PT last year when I upgraded to a 1tb HDD. It's always been an option to transfer games.PS4 had the ability to transfer saves, not complete games and such. That's new to firmware 4.0
Yes. The PS4 has always had this backup feature and I guarantee that you will be able to restore the OG PS4 backup to the Neo.

Back-Up and Restore HDD to USB — Back-up and restore your hard disc drive data associated with users on your PS4, including settings, saved data, screenshots and video clips as well as games, patches and download data, to and from an external USB drive.
I'm really excited for the event.
Personally, I'm glad the Neo wasn't leaked. It's always exciting to hear the new announcements.
How would Neo owners be in a minority in comparison to PS5 owners when it launches?
Also what's the difference between a PS5 (with bc) and a PS4 Neo 2?
4.0 has that functionality. I'll use it when I get a Neo.
Probably talking about the hardware itself but it's not too late for that to leak tooNeo was leaked months ago though.

Not a fan of that price differential. Doesn't seem like the upgrade is that much.
Are there any rumors Rockstar will show something on the event?
Just to be clear on this, I'm not in any way, shape, or form substantiating the rumors. I have no primary source(s) here (and, frankly, I haven't been a journalist since 2014, and I'm not really poking and prodding around for details these days... much of the stuff I talk about on the shows, Tweet about, and the like comes to me). I'm simply reiterating that I've heard this same rumor that was originally floating around on (I think) Reddit through a filter that makes me trust that information more, when originally, I was skeptical, if not completely dismissive.
It's important to note that Sony itself (via Adam Boyes back in June, I believe) said that the rumors were false, and that the show was locked. But with the timing of the conference, the Orlando Shooting, and the obvious strangeness of the placement and cadence of the Days Gone stinger, it's crystal clear why skepticism is abound. I'm pretty sure we'll never actually know, but it's fun to talk about, especially with the Neo announcement forthcoming.
Hope that puts things into perspective. Have a good weekend! -Colin

Absolutely, really excited to see what they have done with the Neo. But a shame the Slim got leaked and broke street date in some places so early.I'm really excited for the event.

With the recent rumors that the PS4 slim doesn't support 4K or HDR and looks to come with only a 500GB drive, when compared to the Xbox One S features, my guess is that their strategy is to try and push people to buy the more expensive Neo to get those features. I haven't read if the price of the slim was confirmed yet but I think for this strategy to work, Sony would have to price the slim very, very competitively, cheaper then the Xbox One S.
And though probably not realistic at all, I hope for another handheld that works more cohesively with the PS4; something akin to what the NX is about.

Is that confirmed or have you just heard rumors?
just a friendly reminder that this announcement is still 7 days away!

Would be nice, but i really hope that they would lower the slim to 249 and not 299. You can have a 299 model with a 1TB HDD and 249 with 500GB.
I wonder if they are going to bring up how they no longer offer 1 month PS+ subscriptions.
It's a thing.
1) To run at a higher resolution when connected to a 4K TV (minimum 1800p it seems - although whether this is a suggested minimum or a hard minimum is difficult to tell. If you can't beat that res, they say to contact them).
It's in the 4.0 firmware beta.

As someone who plays on a monitor (currently 27' 1080p, VA) - what are best options? I know monitors come with varying native resolutions but I dont' think they upscale well.

Because the devs were actually quoted saying as much. I'll see if I can find the link.
Edit: "However, as we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which weve already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title. We do not want to compromise the experience in any way. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date."
