No i'm saying that if a PS5 with bc can have a Zen a PS4 XY can have a Zen.
There is no difference between the 2.
Whatever possible problems/limits a PS4 XY has, a PS5 with bc has too.
Just calling your console different doesn't change reality.

Neo has a different function from a potential numbered unit as i said. Developers are barred from taking advantage of the hardware beyond PS4 levels because it is strictly a PS4. A PS5 would be its own unit, and while compatible with earlier units, would not be shackled to their legacy hardware.

oh well I totally disagree with that. the type of people that will buy Neo day one would absolutely upgrade to PS5 day one a few years later, plus all of the standard PS4 owners would be more likely to upgrade as well

Sure, Neo day one gamers will most likely be there for PS5 day 1, but how many? Can match PS4 launch with 3 million?

Certainly hope it releases soon after the conference. I need a 4k Blu Ray player, and today is the last day gamestop is doing the One to S trade in deal. But I'm holding out for the Neo, I seriously can't wait for this announcement.

If it's because of Jaguar compatibility, PS5 will either go with a different solution (emu, a different CPU chip we don't know of yet that is Jaguar compatible, or a separate Jaguar co-processor) or it won't have BC.

If Sony is still in the business of step-change console generations, and if CPU power jumps are still important, then I don't think it'll be let that issue dictate the performance pace.
x86-64 emulation seems redundant.

Having a separate CPU sounds like a waste of transistors/die space.

How disappointed will everyone be if it ends up not being out until next March? It just makes no sense at this point, and I'm also looking forward to buying one this fall.

I see more and more gamers will not buy PS5 day 1 anymore.
Sony going to regret this.

Not if the hardware continue to scale & PS4 , Neo & PS5 share the same software.

If PS4 is X game at 1080P 30fps , Neo is X game at E4K (efficient 4K) 30fps & PS5 is X game 4K 60fps plus better graphics Sony would love this situation more than having to start over leaving a big install base behind.

As quite a few people here are discussing Playstation 5, I wanted to talk about a possible scenario.

Playstation Now just released on PC and is seemingly moving to just about any capable device in the future. Sony also has a ton of money invested into Playstation Now so I would be really surprised to see it live and die with just Playstation 3 games.

What if Sony's solution for backwards compatibility with Playstation 5 would be to integrate PS4 games into Playstation Now? This would allow them to design Playstation 5 and any hardware going forward without being limited by the previous architecture.

As a final note, I think that if NEO succeeds we'll see Sony implement Apple's "Tick-tock" hardware scheme release scheme. Numbered console release followed by an "S" version of sorts about three years down the line.

Thoughts?

PS5 will be with BC with PS4 hardware wise the architectures won't be that different .
I expect PS4 games will be going on PS Now but that is because NOW is Sony end game .

FWIW, Colin Moriarity on PS I Love You XOXO this week said he believes more will leak before the event next week. He expected they'd have more to talk about when they release their podcast next Tuesday, the 6th (they're also doing a reacts video after the event of course).

The caveat here is that it sounded more like a prediction rather than anything he had hard sources on (regarding a leak). As he himself has said, he's not technically in video game journalism anymore, but I'm sure he hears things. Maybe we'll get something soon, guys.

Sony going to regret this.

The PS5 is likely 4 years away, the vast majority of the PS4 userbase will still be vanilla PS4 owners. Neo is not going to put a dent in the thirst that is going create, and Neo owners likely won't mind buying a new console again either.

Neo is going to look antiqued by the time the PS5 comes along. It is a half-step upgrade that is intentionally limited to not alienate a base console that came out in 2013, the PS5 will have exclusive modes and all the normal perks of a full next generation upgrade.

Sony and the PS5 will be just fine.

The smart thing to do with PS Now is to use it as a starting ground for PS5 development so when the hardware get here the software will already have a headstart.

so it wouldn't matter that only 2 million people have a PS5 at launch because the game that devs have put so much time into can also be played by the over 100 million people who have PS3,PS4,Neo ,PC ,Vita , Smart TV & so on

I'm not sure if I follow you here. Are you suggesting that Playstation 5 games would be available on Playstation Now at launch? What would be the reason to buy the hardware then?

Yeah, when I heard that, I took it entirely as "I don't know anything but stuff leaks a lot so it could happen." So I wouldn't read too much into it.

A number of problems with that .
1. It could hurt PS5 sales .
2. If PS5 games 4k it would take a good amount of speed to stream them.
3. Games that have a VR version or just VR won't be able to stream .
There more but those are some of the major ones.

Yes, probably. A small number of people will be moving on from PS4 to NEO. Most buying the PS5 will be those who skipped the NEO completely.

Yep. I'm fine with skipping NEO myself unless my PS4 breaks and i need a new one, and even then i might just buy the cheaper slim.

PS5 will be the new hotness. That's my steadfast prediction

If there will be a PS5, I hope Sony don't use AMD tech, even if that mean no BC or more expensive.

Even if MS and Sony wanted to, there is no one else to use. Nvidia are horrible business partners for both MS and Sony for different reasons in the past that burned bridges, and Nintendo wanted a specific form factor with NX that they could not find with AMD HW.

I think I'm one of those people that like to have the newest hardware when it hits, but more recent budget issues will play heavily into my ability to or not to upgrade. I can buy Neo thanks to birthday funds for a milestone birthday this year, but, who knows where I'll be financially when the next system hits.

Neo is more of a want than a need it seems at the moment and I'm sure that it is niche gear compared to existing hardware for existing customers or slim for new customers. I think they really have set things up to sell the slim much more, Neo to some, and PSVR to either owner even though that's niche hardware IMO as well.

I wonder though if they will keep the hardware enough the same with the next system that current PSVR will work on PS5.

Latest update from our diligent Foxconn leaker, not sure if posted, thread moving fairly quickly.

内置电源插头又粗又大

or roughly:

power supply is built in and big.

KennyLinder had a great theory about the PSU size. A bigger is cheaper than a smaller one, and since the box is bigger, you can fit a bigger PSU.

Ahhh that explains that then. Saw another mockup elsewhere of it being white, guess they misunderstood the translation.

I think someone did a mockup version in white that was originally done in black from a request or something. If I remembered correctly that is.

Big power supply sounds good, smells like Flops.

That's purely artificial though, could also be that it's named PS5 and devs will still need to make a PS4 XY version for a certain time and regardless of the need the wide majority will still make a PS4 XY version.
And if they keep the PS4 XY scheme there will also be games that won't be playable on older PS4's.
