Everyone they stopped from buying a console before Scorpio release is a win, doesn't matter what fans or what console they owned.
Stop someone from buying a Neo, great win. Stop someone from buying a Xbox one S, still win after a year.
I still laugh when I think of that chip with "4K" written on it.
I believe Sony will take that premium console cake by virtue of having NEO on the market 8-12 months ahead of Scorpio. What's the alternative? Say nothing and let Sony take the premium console cake unchallenged?
I'm not exactly sure what argument Wapple is trying to make

Doesn't matter how much PS4 sold, Scorpio will get PC ultra setting "port" anyway.
Plus, if they don't announce Scorpio in advance, thing might be worse. That's why this is clever, they stop some fans from jumping into Neo and make Neo look less powerful. Two birds one stone. 3 birds if you count oneS
Microsoft can show as many Powerpoint presentations as they want. The truth is the NEO will be on show next week. All MS have come up with is a list of fictitious specs that may or may not be available more than a year down the line.
The NEO is almost here and any prospective console purchaser will surely be swayed by actually seeing something more powerful in the flesh rather than something that exists only in Microsoft's imagination.
Honestly I just don't understand peoples fascination with hitting 4K, I really hope the TV manufacturing industry head towards 21:9 next instead of 8K, consoles can look as pretty as they like, match PC max settings etc, but until they can output in 21:9 it's going to be big negative point for me.

They are grasping at straws. Announce Scorpio at E3 2017 with a launch shortly after. Ensure it is bigger and better than neo and blow our minds out if no where. It was their time to reorganize and come out with a rebrand/reorganize of the Xbox brand.
Now it looks like a "wait...me too " desperate attempt at the spotlight. Seems like panic mode still exists at MS.

What's this thread about again? The Scorpio isn't interesting to me. I have a PC. By the time Scorpio releases, there will be at least 8TF for a 1170 and over 10TF for the 1180. Since their games come to PC, I don't see a reason to buy a Scorpio.

The Scorpio reveal was so bad.
And the worst part is, it kinda shows that maybe MS doesnt actually know how to reverse the trajectory of the downward trend of Xbox.
That they thought a talking heads concept video trying to address a singular issue (power) without much more was a good idea...
Yikes. It kinda told me they gave up on the larger market.

Yup but as frustrating as it is, allowing Sony thier big reveal is ultimately more satisfying for everyone imo.I kinda want leaks, but then again I'd love to be positively surprised. I'm torn![]()

I take you haven't seen a game running at 4K.
True.
As much as I'd love sony to come out on stage next week and announce a 6.5TFlop system I think that a new read dead reveal would be equally satisfying.
Would MUCH rather have a new Red Dead reveal.

Bethesda and EA (but Star Wars might be there).Did MS get caught completely off guard by Neo being a 2016 thing or something?
The Scorpio reveal was some reactionary stuff obviously. Announcing when and how they did is so illogical from every POV other then "well.. we really just wanted to make sure people didnt forget about us"
It will be interesting to see if MS has any major 3rd parties in its pocket who will be mysteriously absent from any NEO presentations / support lists though. Thats kind of the only thing that can help them soften that year headstart neo has.
Also I fully expect MS to be well over that 6tf target they mentioned. Heck I probably bet they low balls that number on purpose so they can say they exceeded it later.
I think hes just saying it was good to announce Scorpio ahead of Neo

Because said title would be revealed to the audience of the market leader (who is winning by more than 2 to 1). And if RDR was meant to be shown at Sony's E3 conference but pulled this would just be the next opportunity.I don't see why any game would be announced and revealed on Neo first, especially a multiplatform title.
I guess, but it was just a statement of intent, which i think for a lot of people isn't very impressive

I thought folk would have been going crazy in here with excitement about the Neo, not talking down MS or the Scorpio?

But developers will still want to sell the game on other platforms, and by revealing the version of the game the smallest audience will actually play seems counterintuitive - that is assuming Neo updates add more then just an increase in resolution.

First of all, lot of third party games are announced with highest PC settings that most people who play said game will never experience. Secondly, even on Sony's stage they would make sure people understand that all the games will run on base PS4. Furthermore, press releases will go out as soon as new announcements are made to get the message out that it is coming to the all the platforms it is coming to. Ergo, this is a non-issue.But developers will still want to sell the game on other platforms, and by revealing the version of the game the smallest audience will actually play seems counterintuitive - that is assuming Neo updates add more then just an increase in resolution.

You all might think my theory is crazy but this might also be how Xbox Scorpio will get to 6TF.
Xbox One S APU + 36 CU polaris GPU both clocked at 980MHz would be 6TF
or it can be the Xbox One S APU with all 14 CUs enabled + the 36 CU GPU both clocked at 950MHz that would also be 6TF
But the game will look the best on that, its never never stopped companies showing off their multiplat console games running on beastly PC's at events.
That's a good call. I hope it's not revealed in a cover reveal but rather in a trailer at the conference because I think that would be a lot better but I could see that happening.I still think if Red Dead were to be revealed next week it'll start with a Game Informer cover reveal on Monday or Tuesday and then first footage at PSM.
They don't have to show button prompts in the trailer, so they could easily immediately upload the trailer to their channel but with the XB1 and (if the port is not delayed PC) logo at the end to sell the game to that audience. And if it's not coming out on PC until a couple of years after the console version I'm sure they would love to first show it off in the highest graphical fidelity they can currently show (since Scorpio games won't be getting shown off until next year). I think showing that version would mostly just get people excited for Red Dead and by association Neo.But developers will still want to sell the game on other platforms, and by revealing the version of the game the smallest number of the audience will actually play seems counterintuitive - that is assuming Neo updates add more then just an increase in resolution.
