1080p and some sophisticated upsampling* method to 4k will be fine for every 4k TV owner who sits more than two meters away from his screen.

I really can't see there being 2 different distinct Neo modes. If there is a 1080p mode with a lot of bells and whistles vs. a 4k mode that has the same effects as standard PS4, who would bother with the 4k mode? just upscale it
I will also be legitimately surprised if lots of games are 30fps on PS4 and 60fps on Neo
If it's coming soon, I expect places like Amazon will open preorders within minutes of it ending. Is there usually buzz words like pre order available at certain time during these hardware announcements?
No leaks, wow. I'm grateful, I guess?
Too many bells and whistles at too low a resolution to resolve the details properly looks bad. See: the last couple of Assassin's Creed games.
I wonder - will future remasters for the PS4 also have a mandated re-remaster version for the Neo?

All games have to have a Neo mode from late Sept on. There won't be separate 'versions' for Neo, the one game will serve both systems.
That's simply semantics. The question is the same either way. Will the Neo "mode" of a remaster be required to become a close equivalent of a re-remaster?

Thats some terrible ass character design xD

lolit means it wont start sales at the same time as Slim... so when is it going on sale? In October? November?
That answers my question, thank you.the only "requirements" of a neo mode is that its at least 1080p and has at least the same framerate of the standard mode
so no, the Neo mode of a remaster could be literally the same and meet the requirement
Official specs?"No leaks, I'm surprised"
Besides sitting on official specs, chassis drawing from production floor, weight, internal documentation...![]()

Only a few more days to find out kind of specs we'really working with. Part of me is still hoping for a bit of a boost up from the rumors.
Best they'll get is probably a small up clock like how the Xbone went from 1.2tf to 1.3tf gpu and 1.6ghz to 1.75ghz cpu before launch
I'm really hoping the CPU is at least better than we can expect, stuff like Battlefield 1 64 player conquest isn't gonna run much better than standard PS4 does now (Sure it'll finally be 1080p Frostbite BF on console though)doubtful

Ideally Sony wants people to buy their 4K sets. But 4K growth benefits every player in the TV industry including Sony. Sony doesn't need to get a bigger slice of the pie as long as the pie is bigger overall so they make money either way. Also if the Neo catches on Sony gets money from the content and console sales. Most people are going to get a Sammy/LG TV, not a Bravia.
Same thing happened with 3D... Sony pushed 3D gaming really hard (in exclusives like Uncharted 3), but they didn't sell a lot of Bravias. So, 3D support is basically non-existent these days.
It doesn't make any sense to benefit competitors (Samsung, LG).
I just wanted to say that I *love* Faux K as an expression. It should be a thing.Truth.
It's not like an either or situation anyways. FauxK won't be costly to implement.
Hmm?Well. Specs communicated to developers.
Official come Tuesday.

Either it will be 4.2 or 5.5+. That's it. No sense in half measures if they're willing to go 10lbs and big PSU.
feel like bells and whistles has been in this thread more than all others combined in the past year
Need my bells kept off my neo
The 10lbs is all them brass bells. Why whatever do you mean

That's like saying Sony shouldn't advertize their smartphones cause people buy iPhones and Samsungs anyhow...
Sony puts a lot of effort in marketing 4k TVs, of course they are going to push 4k with Neo.
Do we have any confirmation that 5.5 is a choice and hasn't been shot down? I hope so personally, and such a heavy system with a large psu may facilitate that.
Late to the comparisons:

You know what, it pisses me off when I hear people saying "man, PS3/X360 had so much faster CPUs compared to PS4/XB1... 3.2 GHz must be faster than 1.6-1.75 GHz, right?"
They don't understand the microarchitecture intricacies (in-order vs OoO, branch prediction etc.), but they're so eager to diss the current-gen consoles, just because they built a shiny new PC with an i5 and a GTX 970.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a console with a Zen CPU (provided it doesn't break BC), but before claiming that a CPU is weak, they should question themselves if a certain game is using the CPU/GPU resources properly. For example, I'm not going to diss consoles just because Just Cause 3 is running like shit. Even (mid-range) PCs cannot run it that well. On the other hand, Uncharted 4 seems to run pretty well, despite all the explosions/destruction, because it uses the CPU/GPU resources in the most efficient manner.
ps: Yeah, the PS3/360 were imbalanced (CPU-centric design, especially the PS3), while the current-gen consoles are GPU-centric. As long as devs are using GPGPU for SIMD code (physics, destruction, pathfinding etc.), they should be doing just fine.
