Neo

Did i do it right?

take this for what it's worth but yesterday talking to little birdie in the know at COD XP, final dev kits wont go out until the Sept 7th reveal and expect NEO to be higher than the original rumored specs. Late September/Early October launch.

I've had a few other winks and nods that NEO is out in Sept/Oct this year but this was the first time I've heard specs closer to Scorpio from some one on the dev side of the fence.

Just like Blu-Ray was meant to be a permanent shift? Everyone has a DVD player, but not everyone has a Blu-Ray one, let alone UHD.

There's something called diminishing returns... we see this phenomenon in camera megapixels as well. Technology progress is good, but if it doesn't offer something substantial compared to older technology, then the majority won't invest on it. As simple as that.
BD was not. But HD was and still is. The way people get HD content has changed like this PS4 is but a transient state in the great scheme of things.

Really feel sorry for those of us who seem to be so preoccupied with Scorpio and what Microsoft is doing (speaking on the rumored power bump). However do these people manangeknowing that people exist who are better looking, stronger, smarter, etc than they are?

The only games I even expect to be taking advantage of the neo are first party games. All other games will still cater to the mass market which is the base ps4 and xb1 models.

MS got people sweating. All it took were some power point slides and "6 Tflops"

What a silly argument. Just because people still use inferior technology doesn't mean Blu Ray isn't the industry standard for HD optical media. Guess what, there are SD and 720p TV owners out there as well, that doesn't mean 1080p isn't the standard either.

4K looks considerably better than 1080p, so it's well worth the effort.

this is what i meant. ms will boost the specs even further to make it meaningful because they are hedging their bets on being the most powerful so they will try their best to be a good bit ahead because if it is minimal, not many would bother switching

Best they can do is Vega at 14nm, but TDP and an acceptable price are still limits that consoles will always have. If they can pull it off at $499, I'd like to see that.

I think its silly. And as people have said before, it is obvious that microsoft will just bump up Scorpio's spec accordingly.

I think the whole point is to get the most powerful PS4 spec as possible. I don't care how much more powerful Scorpio ends up being, at the end of the day it's still an Xbox One which I have very little to no interest in.

I obviously missed some good news, spec wise?

We really need some devs in here to calm things down. All devs that have commented here have said only minor clock bumps are likely. One has said previously that the most significant thing about Neo that hasn't leaked is a feature not any higher specs.

Still can't believe Sony are still silent along with the gaming press.

I think you're silly for not trying to understand what I'm saying...

Regarding optical media, the majority is stuck in the DVD era. That's a fact that can't be argued.

Again: the majority has 1080p TVs and DVD players. SD & 720p TVs constitute a minority these days.

And no, regarding video games, I don't think that 4K with medium settings at 30fps looks better than 1080p60 Ultra settings.

Why should devs break NDAs to just calm some strangers on an internet message board? ;p

And why does Sony need to say anything? They'll say everything on the 7th.

It's highly likely you'll get the option of both those configurations. You don't need a 4K TV to enjoy the benefits of Neo.

Depends what tech each of them uses. There are technical and of course financial limits to spec bumps. I suppose if Scorpio is the fastest console out there in 12 months, which no one takes into question, they might as well just call it a day and market it as such. They got their "fastest console out there for now!" tag so why bother to bump specs. A 2020' PS5 will make Scorpio look antiquated no matter what anyhow.

How would saying for example don't get you hopes up be breaking NDA's? Come on!

And Sony still haven't announced the thing publicly/officially. The thread title is technically wrong. It should say leaked not announced.

We've had insiders using alt accounts to leak info in the past. Why can't they do the same now?

Oh, I know and I'm not commenting about any particular leak or credibility of anything. Just a social comment. It had gotten a bit quiet in here for a bit due to lack of that sort of thing. One comment later and it got very active. Nothing new, just fun to watch and/or participate in.

Thanks. I guess this thread is in overhype.

I do love it in here but a small trinket of rumor info is like blood in shark infested waters.

People are understandably thirsty.

Personally though, unless we have multiple at least vaguely confirmed insiders or devs hinting at something more substantial spec-wise, people are just setting themselves up for "secret sauce" levels of disappointment.

Different companies can have different visions
Well, Microsoft doesn't even manufacture TVs, so it's really weird to not offer a 1080p60 Ultra mode. They're gonna lose a lot of sales if they don't cater to that hardcore audience, especially if Sony offers such an option (even if Neo has less TFlops).

It's still a 30% improvement in CPU. Conquest currently hovers around the low-mid 40s so it'll be up in the mid-high 50s and have fewer drops from 60 while running at higher visual settings and that's only based on beta performance. DICE is known for improving a good deal closer to release when it comes to technical issues.

Are we actually going to see 30% in real world performance though if it's technically just the same shitty Jaguar cores overclocked?

And well, they did with Battlefront at least but that was only 40 players on maps that weren't destructible.

They say it is up to the devs, so we will have to wait and see. All of this is new for the console space so it will take some time for it all to pan out.

It's not up to devs, since the platform holder is the one who sets the SDK limitations. That's why the Scorpio won't have exclusives either. Of course that could change with a newer SDK, if there's enough market demand for it.

Throwing this out late in the day on Friday before the long weekend preceding the event just set this thread on fire.

Devs can use different approaches. You are right about the SDK part, but I think much of the plans for Scorpio are still pending. So I can't take anything they say about it seriously just yet. Uncompressed pixels

I'm going to bet Sony will have another refresh or ps5 for 2018 anyway. So whatever power advantage ms has will be completely for not as the games will run on and have more to them on the 2018 edition

The timing of everything is going to become very tricky. If neo does well and such of course.

Why would we want to clam things down .
We have a few days left it's time for the madness to really kick in .

The usual cycle begins. People need to reel in their expectations or start prepping for dissapointment. I'm expecting the same specs we have known about for months now, no reason to start jumping the gun.

Did you hear anything about pixels? How high quality are they?! We need to know!

can i play?

I feel like if I knew basketball this would be really, really funny.

There are people better looking, stronger, smarter, etc. than me?? Where are they! I'll kill them!

Hahahahahahahaha oh my god, too fucking good

Can someone explain to me what's the point of having 120 TF if games are still limited by OG PS4 and XONE compatibility?

It's like driving a Ferrari with a speed-limiter.
