Right now its less than 10% of 4K owners. Those that recently bought a 1080P HDTV are not the kind of folks to upgrade quickly and won't for the foreseeable future. It literally took 10 years to get those same people to even upgrade to a 1080P HDTV and these are the majority of customers out there. What you have with those that own a 4K HDTV...are the kind of folks that do upgrade more frequently but most people are not standing in line eagerly waiting for a 4K HDTV. Most cable providers are actually waiting for the jump to 8K content before doing their technology overhaul...Right now they say that it will take 5 years or around 2020/2021 when 4K HDTV's are a majority...we are talking 5 to 6 years until we get there. This entire 4K push is pure marketing with zero substance for the foreseeable future. 1080P gaming will be the norm for a while still, imho.
Many people will stick to 1080p until their sets die, but even those consumers will be stuck with 4K if no-one is making 1080p sets anymore that is quickly becoming the case. It's a matter of time.

PS4K will replace the GPU with a Blitter co-processor that will produce the most powerful graphics known to man.

Return of the Amiga

I feel like these arguments about 4K adoption could be made about HD adoption back in 2005 as well
Oh, I haven't forgotten Sony's 1080p (and a dual one at that) gaming empty promises, only to end up in (sub)720p gaming.

So yeah, 4K is the modern equivalent of that. Only video playback makes sense in the highest resolution, not gaming.

They actually use duck shooting game to test Neo at Foxconn, according to Foxconn artist.
Why is the Foxxconn dude not revealing any of the specs for NEO?

He knows about the console design and apparently the software used for testing it, but he's blue-balling on the most important details.

PS4 southbridge as Media TEE Game Codec encoding happening in the Southbridge not the APU. If this is not the case then the h.264 output from the USB to the PSVR box can not display any overlays generated in the Southbridge TEE. The TV needs a 60 Hz or lower frame rate and the VR headset needs 90 FPS or greater.

According to Ito:

It wasn't Ito that mentioned game streaming encoder in the APU, it was the author of the article. The 2013 PS4 will support two of the coming UHD blu-ray features; HDR and object/positional audio for games through the custom HDMI port but not UHD. HDR requires HDR negotiation passing though the HDMI chip to the game engine which makes the PS4 HDMI port what I would call a 1.4a which is not a HDMI standard. So is the custom port able to communicate with UHD TVs and support HDR over a HDMI 1.4 port or is it a HDMI 2.0a port with only HD output?

Ito said:
currently, corresponding policies for Ultra HD Blu-ray is of a currently under consideration.
This is the only want to hear as a story of "For example," but (laughs), and the corresponding ways of setting the Ultra HD Blu-ray can be accommodated top model is considered.
Business decision and shown with the XB1 slim hardware breakdown, it costs no more from 2015 and later to support UHD Blu-ray than it does to support HD blu-ray given console economy of scale.

Given the interview occurred just before the release of the 2015 PS4 and final designs for the PS4 Slim and Neo would have been locked with chips for the 2016 PS4 already in pre-production, this statement "corresponding policies for Ultra HD Blu-ray is of a currently under consideration." means support is in hardware for releasing UHD on either 2016 and possibly the 2015 console and the only part that could change would be the drive which according to Penello, the difference between HD and UHD drives is a change in the lens which would have no difference in cost.

Sony has not announced UHD blu-ray support in any PS4 console and the PS4 Slim box does not list features like Sony's Upscaling HD blu-ray players list. No list of supported codecs, CD, DLNA just a few IPTV Apps. I believe the above is the reason. No UHD blu-ray support but support for UHD streaming media is also a possible choice.

So you'll ignore all the 2160p native games like you ignored the 1080p native games on PS3.

4k has been desired for a long time among movie fans since it's a major film standard. HDR alongside it makes for a significant improvement in picture quality.
You know what? The fact that HDR is exclusive to 4K TVs says a lot...

Who says that we couldn't have 1080p + HDR? That's why I'd rather have a 1080p60 OLED screen than a 4k30 LCD one.

Return of the Amiga
Blast processing confirmed!

So you'll ignore all the 2160p native games like you ignored the 1080p native games on PS3.
You mean ignoring 0.1% of the games? Sounds like a good compromise to me.

This has been the longest week ever!

I just can't see a drastically improved Neo due to the logistics of making such radical changes this late in the game... so put me down as team 4.2-4.5 etc.

I think the thing that's going to make the most waves will be a redesigned "elite" controller.

I bet the Neo will be shipped with the new DS4 just like the PS4 Slim. I just hope, besides the better hardware, they add more features like the better wifi and connecting DS4 with USB plus more additions rather than removing features like the ommission kf the Optical Out.

There is nothing late. There were always two planned skus: the one every site knows about and one more powerful but more expensive. It is for Sony to decide which one to ship and when?

Ridge Racer 7
WipEout HD
Rayman Origins
Rayman Legends
Okami HD
God of War Origins Collection
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner HD (HexaDrive ver.)
ICO HD
Super Stardust HD (patched)
flOw
Critter Crunch
PixelJunk Sidescroller
PixelJunk Shooter
PixelJunk Shooter 2
Machinarium

These are just the games I pulled from my main trophy list (+RR7) that are 1080p or upward of it. I enjoyed the improved image quality of these games greatly. A lot of them are 60fps too!

You forgot Limbo. Of course it's easy to have 1080p games (and even 60fps ones) on the PS3 with simplistic 2D graphics.

Wipeout HD employs a dynamic resolution system, it's not 1080p all the time.

PS2 remasters are easy to run in 1080p60.

Either way, my point still stands: native 1080p PS3 games are a minority. Why should native 4k be different this time around? Sure, I could play Limbo and Rayman in 4k60, but I don't see the point.

you can connect DS4 using USB

He really might not have access to much, potentially he could just interact with the finished console and test it.

Hopefully he doesn't get busted.

Read the article....in hindsight we must view what Ito says in the article differently.

The PS4 slim and NEO chipsets were set in stone at the time he says they are considering which models will support UHD Blu-ray.

Well apparently not if the final Dev kits aren't even released till the 7th, right?

Limbo's low res textures don't benefit much from higher resolutions actually.

A lot of these simplistic games looked better than the 'AAA' stuff and they weren't just 2D.

Wipeout HD employs a dynamic resolution system, it's not 1080p all the time.

PS2 remasters are easy to run in 1080p60. [on PS4]
Tell me something I don't already know.

Simple, smaller, stylish games with lower rendering requirements are far greater in number and popularity on PS4.

Sure, I could play Limbo and Rayman in 4k60, but I don't see the point.
Limbo doesn't benefit, Rayman benefits a bit more but a new Rayman, or game like it could benefit greatly from increased texture and display resolution.

Only video playback makes sense in the highest resolution, not gaming.
This is the crazy 'if all games can't be UHD what's the point' statement.

"Popularity"? That's why there's so much PS+ backlash?

I didn't buy a PS4 to play 2D indies, but to each his own. Some people like their IndieStation4, I get that.

This is the crazy 'if all games can't be UHD what's the point' statement.
I don't want 4K gaming, at least not before the PS5 comes out. Problem?

Yeah, it's stupid to artificially limit games to 1080p60 native output when they can be so much more.
Yeah, it's "stupid" to artificially limit 2D pixelized indies to 1080p60... don't worry man, I'm sure they'll have a pretty decent 4K upscaler. It'll be fine.

Even if they stick with the 4.2TF, their goal will be accomplished. Neo will still be substantially faster than base PS4. As for pushing more, that can be done with a simple overclock. They need to figure out how much their cooling setup can be strained.

MS has not said anything about Scorpio having 12GB of ram or a newer CPU people came up with the 12 GB of RAM from the motherboard render.

The reasoning for 12GB is valid.

12 chips on the render means 12x1GB. There are no 2GB chips, and sure as hell MS will not use 512MB ones. :D

Phil loved and promoted the demo but it was Dylan Cuthbert (of Q-games) whom actually coded the demo.

Yeah I know Phil is was just a PR guy. thanks for the info about Dylan coding the duck demos.

Maybe we need to question him about this duck shooting demo
