I think the neo wont be focused on 4K at all. In fact the only 4K aspect will be for movies. I doubt they will even want to mention to possibility of 4K gaming because its something AAA will never reach. Only a few independent titles will reach that resolution and it wont be touted as a selling feature.

I think when neo surfaced everyone just assumes that 4K is the next logical step up. Right now that is not the case. They are going for graphical fidelity and most importantly effects that they can show off for mediate "wow" factor

- resolution changes cant be shown in trailers/videos/conferences. If this was the primary focus no one would be initially impressed and even if they eventually are, it would require PS4Neo and PS4 running side by side for most people to notice. would that justify a purchase regardless?

- Frame rate, we are a very interesting group. We pick apart games and analyse performance arguably more than we play them. In the real world unless its a DRASTIC difference ( n64 vs 60 fps ) most people again, wont notice or care. Aiming to lock at 60 fps and show a comparison to a fluctuating 30-60 FPS existing game ( new game? ) wont have people lining up to get one.

I think neo will 100% be focused on 4K Media, 1080P games that are of course 60 FPS ( hell even 30 ) and will be heavily utilised in making sure people can see an immediate difference in "graphics" when they see a trailer/demo in store. This needs to be almost like a "new" generation of ps4 games to be successful.

and just another brain fart. Maybe we will actually get full PC customisation with games now. Meaning if someone wants 1080P 60 100% of the time they can toggle various effects to get that. If someone wants 1080P with amazing alpha effects etc, they take the hit and it drops it to 30.

Phil loved and promoted the demo but it was Dylan Cuthbert (of Q-games) whom actually coded the demo.

I hadn't realized that Q-Games had worked so closely with Sony outside of games. They were mainly responsible for the majority of the XMB on the PS3 and even worked on programming for the Vita's interface.

Can someone explain to me what's the point of having 120 TF if games are still limited by OG PS4 and XONE compatibility?

It's like driving a Ferrari with a speed-limiter.
Games will have different settings like PC. You're not limited to one spec when you play a game on a PC, you can tailor your experience to the hardware you have. I think it'll be the same with consoles going forward. Games that are out already will need to be patched (if that's possible at all)

It's great were getting mandated resolution's at last. I wish FOV had a mandated minimum along with some kind of AA as well tbh.

the only mandated resolution is that you can't go below 1080p. It would be like mandating PS4 to not fall below 720p, it is easily mandated.

People are misunderstanding base mode and NEO modes i think. They are likely invisible to users and NEO mode is likely only activated via patch.

Consoles still only have two marginally different configurations even with PS4 and NEO, PC have infinite and so graphics settings make sense.

Developers like only coding for one specific spec, and i think on console, it will continue to be the base version as priority while 'porting up' to the stronger unit concerning enhancements.

Prediction time for me too!

-Joke about the leaks
-PS4 "Slim" announced, AVAIBLE NOW!11!, 249$/€ 500GB SKU, 299$/€ 1TB SKU
-PS4 "Neo" announced, Avaible in November, 4.5-5TF, 399$/€ 1TB SKU
-VR Better with NEO!
-Games announced: Deep Down re-reveal (no F2P, exclusive), Red Dead 3 (timed exclusive)
-Old Games compatibility: UC4 (no DLC), Bloodborne, Driveclub, GTAV, The Witcher 3, Destiny, Overwatch
-Upcoming 1st Party Games: Horizon, GT Sport, God of War
-Upcoming 3rd Party Games: FFXV (also Neo Bundle), Watch Dogs 2, COD Infinity Warfare

Great list, On par with my thoughts too. :)

What reason would they have to show games that are two years out like God of War and Days Gone?

Given that SSM is one of the best or the best in the eyes of some technically, I would think you'd want to show what they can do with a console designed to improve upon the graphics.

ND and SSM should be headlining the Neo presentation. And Guerilla.

So, what special editions of consoles released also when the console released?

I would think there will be at least a CoD console, and probably a FFXV one.

Next year in February we have Horizon and Persona 5. If both do not delayed.

If we take all the rumours at face value then we have two systems, a 4.2 and a 5.5.

The rumours state devs received the 4.2 and Sony said to contact them if they struggled to reach over 1800p for tips.

So let's pretend those rumours to be true then the feedback Sony receives from the devs will likely determine which model will go on shelves.

Devs have no issues going over 1800p then we get the 4.2, too many devs have issues then Sony chooses the 5.5.

I wouldn't expect a P5 custom console. Not in North America/Europe at least.

I think that maybe we'll only get a CoD custom console this year. FFXV... maybe?

Next year's custom console would be:
- Destiny 2
- CoD: Advanced Warfare 2
- Battlefront 2

Absolutely. It's a shame the CPU gets no where near the same bump as the GPU. If the PS5 does get a better CPU does that mean backwards compatability will be effected? Is that why we're sticking with the overclocked Jaguar this time around?

A power CPU in a console that will be playing the same games as the PS4 & Xbox One is mostly a waste of die space.

What is it that people want these more powerful CPUs to do? if it's about graphics why not wish for a GPU that's better at the task?

A more powerful CPU will help push higher frame-rates in CPU intensive games.

Open world games are CPU intensive due to having to simulate a large open world.

A few examples of existing games would be Final Fantasy XV, Grand Theft Auto V, Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate etc.

With current porting possibilities it'll be easy enough to bring more "non-traditional" games to consoles. I think that X-COM 2 port would be done sooner if CPU was better in consoles.

It's an empty dream, but I wouldn't mind normal, full-fledged Civilization game on console.

Prediction time for me

PS4 Slim announced
Released now
$250/£220
500GB
4k HDR support for streaming services but no UHD Bluray support

PS4 Neo announced
Released November
4.5TF power
$450/£400
1TB
Pro Controller (Detachable right analog and buttons)
4k HDR UHD Bluray support
PS4 Neo at £400! You've got to be joking. Who would pay £75 more than an original PS4 at launch with a mild update?

That's doesn't make any sense. The price needs to reflect the technology three years on i.e. it should't be more than the original PS4's price.

Do Apple charge more for it's 'S' models compared to the previous years edition?

The games are only CPU intensive because the devs didn't move the task to the GPU.

Move the task to the GPU so it's not moving data back & forth from the CPU to the GPU & I bet you will get better results.

Added to it. lol Actually maybe not a custom console but a bundle at least.

Keep channeling all y'all Red Dead predictions though, maybe it'll help make it happen!! lol We'll see if my first bet pays off on Tuesday...

That's the thing these are PS4/Xbox One games

Optical confirm?

Tough to say from the drawing which shows 5 total ports on the back. One is obviously power and another is hdmi, then there is the camera port, so the other two are up in the air. One possible optical and the other a possible rear usb port?

LAN-port.

Is there still no dedicated website up for this event?

No, it's extremely weird. It's just a few days away and Sony haven't mentioned it on their offical blogs yet, except for their Spanish one.

Developers are used to the current balance of much stronger GPUs than CPUs, and we should not expect things to change in this area in the future. Here is what creator of Unreal Engine has to say about that:

According to the specs we've seen so far, PlayStation Neo and Xbox Scorpio look to make their performance gains through GPU rather than CPU power - a move that makes sense to Sweeney.

"I feel like consoles will remain in balance," he said. "You can see in some of the most complex games at the moment, the CPU is having no trouble keeping up with complex scenarios. As game developers, you can spend far more time doing far more optimisation for CPU than GPU - a GPU is a perfectly parallel brute force computing device, if you give us a fixed algorithm and tell us to make it two times faster there's not much we can do, you can spend a year making our game run twice as fast. If you look at what's going on in the industry, it's still propelling GPU performance growth over CPU performance growth, which is a trend I think is going to continue."
