If it's sata 3 then I don't care what hd is in there, will just replace with ssd. You guys do realize that sata 3 drive will actually let us reap benefits of ssd speed.

Bloodbourne load times in the 5 sec range

If it's SATA 3 I'm definitely going SSHD again, even though my old one died a couple months back.

Assuming a $50 difference between the models.

-If it's 500GB and 1TB, I'll go for the 500GB, and swap in my 1TB SSHD that I was using for the ps4.
-If it's 1TB and 2TB, I'll go for the 2TB and sell my SSHD for $50-60.

However, if it takes 3.5inch drives, then I'll go for the cheapest model and just buy a really big HDD myself.
But then again if its SATA3, maybe it'd actually be nice to go for an SSD.

Damn it, LOL.

Correct.

16x RAM = bigger and richer game worlds

The difference between Uncharted 2-3 (linear corridors) and Uncharted 4 (semi-open) is staggering.

There's nothing like that this time around. Even if the new consoles have 12-16GB of RAM, games will still be made with PS4/XB1 8GB pool in mind.
Yes perhaps, but code and settings can scale for the better hardware with more ram, better gpu and cpu.

In the case of ram, I can see ultra textures being used in more games, better loading times, better AF and AA, that goes a long way on top of the higher quality shadows and higher quality settings the NEO will carry in general.

As for another post I read, I think NEO should still target 1080p when going for 60fps titles, unless they have leg room to boost resolution to 2880 x 2160 and still maintain 60fps. So it really depends on how ambitious the title is on a graphical level. Take Gran Turismo Sport for e.g, it's already running 1080 60fps on the PS4, which means there's lots of room for a resolution boost on the NEO with some graphical upgrades or leaving the game at 1080P on NEO and give it a massive boost to the base visuals, textures, shadows, AO, effects ,AF, AA etc...which will naturally be coupled with a locked 60fps.

I think what devs decide to do will be very interesting, personally I prefer balance, so give me a rez that scales nicely and sharply to my 4k monitor, whilst maintaining 60fps with as many graphical enhancements that can be mustered over the PS4 version.

Better be a SSD otherwise I'm just going to remove that worthless drive to put my SSD in it

I don't think we'll ever see a standard model for a console with an SSD in it. Way too expensive.
Looked up the cheapest prices: a 500GB SSD costs 125 euro and a normal internal 500GB HD 45 euro.

Except for some hardcore gamers, I don't think that anyone is interested in paying 80 euro more, just to have faster loading times.

A baked-in PSN... that's why it weighs 10lbs...

PS3 was a George Foreman Grill
NEO is an Easy Bake Oven

I think it's hilarious people care about what Epic want hardware wise when they have basically committed their entire company to f2p games.

Just because they have free to play projects doesn't mean that what they have to say isn't valuable.

Epic Games know their stuff, if there's anyone you want to listen to it's them, they're renowned for the creation of the Unreal Engine and pushing technology and industry standards.

Unreal Engine 3 was also the most used game engine of the last console generation, and Unreal Engine 4 looks to be following the same path.

So I know nothing's been announced yet, but if I take my 2tb hdd out of my PS4 and put it in my Neo, will everything on the hdd be accessible or will I have to re-download it?

OK so we're looking at something like PS4S or PS4K then. I kind of like PS4 NEO.

Only 3 days to go to the event and no major leaks except the design. Sony run a tight ship.

PS4 Slim says otherwise. Regarding the Neo though, things could and probably will change as we get closer and someone leaks something from the rehearsal.

I hope the Neo comes with a cheap and nasty 500GB spinner. It will always be cheaper to do a DIY upgrade.

Sony and MS have been laughing all the way to the bank by charging an extra £50 to get a bump to 1TB. That 2TB Xbox One S cost an extra £100 over the 500GB model even though you can get an external 2TB for £60 and end up with 2.5TB of combined storage.

Firmware 4.00 allows you to connect your PS4 to another, so you'll be able to boot your Neo and transfer over everything from your old PS4 before you trade it in or gift it or whatever.

You would have to re-download, but because of the PS4's 4.0 update, you will be able to transfer content from one PS4 to another via LAN. You would be able to at least transfer 500gb of your stuff or you can be crazy and buy another 2tb drive and put it in your NEO.

No, I was asking about PS Now (PS3 games service), not Remote Play (PS4 games).
I know you were, but I was saying that the only thing that had that limit (at first) was Remote Play. PS Now always supported up to 60fps if the service found your internet speed sufficient.

I hope PS4 Slim only comes with 500gb hdd and Neo only comes with 2TB hdd. Only two skus available for easy price / consumer understanding differentiation.

I wonder if GTAV will have a NEO patch?

Possibly, Rockstar are always releasing updates for it.

However it's highly unlikely that it will run at 60 fps, the CPU is too weak. Although they'll possibly be increased draw distances, better shadows and more grass. Maybe even some down-sampling or utilization of techniques to run the game at 4K as-well.

Yeah true, i guess they shipped them a bit early. Expecting an "Available Now" announcement for the slim.

That sounds very complicated to enforce. As far as we know there is only a single NEO mode and a base mode, but your saying multiple configurations and graphics settings based on what resolution you set your game at?

That's starting to conflate multiple things. Games can run in a wide range of software-defined modes based on anything they want. Easy mode? Hard mode? Stereo mode? Surround mode? Most games have logic that differentiates between these just like a Neo title will be able to distinguish between a 1080p display and a 4K display.

... but what we've seen leaked indicates that the hardware has two very distinct execution modes: Base Mode and Neo Mode. The former is used to approximate the performance and resources available to an original PS4 / PS4 slim to execute titles that were certified on older hardware and therefore may have exhibited quirks when running on Neo hardware without this kind of hardware throttling.

Neo mode makes a significant difference in full clock speed, bandwidth, and GPU resources. All titles released in the near future and beyond will have to be certified and will not have the option to run in Base Mode except on non-Neo hardware.

wrong. 2K is 1080/60 on consoles.

2K is a resolution, not a frame rate. It's also a meaningless distinction in the context of television standards since it's not a native HDTV standard, so anybody talking about a console connected to a consumer television who talks about 2K almost certainly means 1080p. In that vein 4K is widely used by television manufacturers as a shorthand for 2160p which is the relevant UHD/SUHD standard.
