I think 30 FPS was a design choice.
A new handheld sounds mental, but a revision... who knows. I really don't think there's a market there for it. Still, they could definitely improve the device, maybe a larger screen at 1080p (easy up rendering of 540p games), and could tie in with 1080p60 streaming from the Neo console over the 5GHz wifi direct connection.. I dunno. It would be nice to see, but I really doubt it.

but as it is a solid 30, it's going to be 30 on the neo too..
no way are they going to allow some players in multiplay to run it at 60 fps and some at 30.. hardly a fair or level playing field at all..

well that could be 60 fps, but only if it's also 60fps on the vanilla ps4 as well...

Halo 3 was ahead of its time (the social/sharing aspects are still kinda crazy).
But one technical thing that really killed me was a framerate hitch that happened every two-three seconds. Likely saving aside Replay data or something.

Im surprised no one has mentioned that new vita revision illustration that circuled around some months ago and posted here at gaf. Or was it even a patent illustration (no it was not a nx thread)

Obviously they're not going to come out and announce a price increase, that's why they leaked it a couple weeks ago. Now it's already out there and they can sell us the benefits and show us the future of PS+ and what they're going to do with it. Will they kill off Vita/PS3 support, add VR games, or do something else? I think even without a change in the price, many expected them to kill off support of the older devices at some point.
We don't know exactly what's in it, but we do have an idea of the future market. Having a slim enables them to charge a higher price for a premium console. and having no competition for 12 months enables them to charge even more.
sony has been really good with pricing the last few years so I expect a great value though. I just don't expect $399.

The fact that people think for a minute that Sony might announce a brand new handheld--a successor to the Vita--and not a revision (if that) is absolutely baffling.
And this is coming from a massive Vita fan. Barring some massive reversal in the market, Sony will never make a new traditional handheld again.

Variable frame-rates have been a thing for years on PC. If you want to be ultra competitive you have to spend money on the best kit available. Why should it be any different on consoles ?

I'm at work and can't dig into a source right now, but in OsirisBlack's original post it was mentioned that they can't have more FPS or unique gameplay features in a multiplayer setting.

At this point iam seriously affraid that sony will not show NEO.. The thing with RDRR and Slim and probably new Vita like Handheld. That is already to much for a ~120 Minute Event...

Nah yo. Halo 3 had a huge problem with it's IQ due to the lighting solution and resolution. But technically? That game was pretty damn insane.
You just don't see levels of that scope and scale anymore in shooters. The twin scarab fight is still one of the most insane things I've encountered in a shooter.

In my opinion, a Vita revision, a totally redesigned portable, or just the dead of the Sony handhelds are equally possible.

Halo 3 was definitely bigger than the sum of its parts.
When seen as a whole, with big battlefields full of beautiful explosions, that game was incredible.

I can't believe that there is serious belief that there's a new vita coming. I mean...how would that work? The handheld space has changed. Really no room for this with mobile taking over. We shall see though

Now we will never know now won't we, and the CPU is not doing the bottlenecking with most games this gen. Maybe a few but certainly not most.
So I guess in these instances the XB1 version was running at 10fps right? I'm not sure why more noise wasn't made about that tbh.

No, I absolutely do mean most.
PC is pulling 60 FPS on practically every single game with i3 processors. PS4's GPU is more than strong enough for 60 frames on the vast majority of its games, yet it can't achieve that level of performance. Weak AMD Jaguar cores are the cause.

That rumor "PSP-like" device, man. It might be the NX but I think it's too early for NX to enter the mass production, which is usually 3-4 months before launch (iirc from what Pachter said long ago). But Vita is dead, so the only possibility is a portable PS4.

It should have 2.4/5 GHz WiFi (b/g/n/ac), all the buttons that DS4 has, a big enough screen (6-7") for 1080p60 streaming (I wouldn't mind IPS instead of OLED) and the Vita hardware (SoC, game slot) for playing Vita games as well. They should also replace the proprietary Vita memory cards with microSD.

Didn't one of the mandates in the leaks stated NEO games should match or exceed PS4 mode framerates? Or was that just resolution?
