Super Mario Run announced for iOS (Android later), Dec 2016, Screens/Info in OP

Ok serious question...if they can put games on iPhone then why not Xbone/PS4?

Because they want people to buy games for hardware they make. If they put their games on rival consoles, that won't happen.

Coming as a big Nintendo fan, I'm actually pretty excited. The gameplay looks very tight and takes advantage of the benefits of touch screen/mobile gaming. They are not trying to force a concept onto a platform that doesn't meet it. Instead, it's being made from the ground-up.

As for using the NSMB artwork, not shocking. It's what is more recognizable to the general public. But yeah, looking forward to it! Between their mobile games and the future NX, I'm one happy camper. I see Nintendo's future being very bright.

Nah, their mobile output gathers completely new users for nintendo games. It's a goldmine that doesn't overlap with HC gamers.

This. My wife loved Pokemon GO and still does. She grew up with it, playing mainly Pokemon Snap on N64. Pokemon GO acted as a gateway to other Pokemon products and games. She has been watching the old episodes on Netflix and she has the new Pokemon Sun on pre-order. I gave her my old 3DS and made it an excuse to buy the New 3DS (That's completely on me though lol)

She is not the only one. I know plenty of nurses I work with that thanks to Pokemon GO, it has prompted them to go buy other Pokemon games and Nintendo hardware. This is evident with the recent NPD too so not completely anecdotal.

Where the strategy works is that for those who are satisfied with just the mobile games, they were never going to buy consoles in the first place. Someone who games only on iOS/Android is never going to buy a PS4 or NX or whatever. But there will be a subsection of them that will be curious enough to jump into the Nintendo ecosystem. And either way, they make money so its all good in the first place.

You know, it's been a long time since I cared about Super Mario Brothers or even cared much about 2D platform games but that looks kinda fun to have on my phone.

Though I'd still rather have a full pokemon game (not pokemon go) on my phone. Hell, I'd even settle for a port of the original pokemon games.

Am I wrong in thinking this was today's biggest gaming announcement?

Smart move by Nintendo really, stealing Ps4 Pro headlines with a very low investment initiative like this. They didn´t even have to pony up to put up a conference FFS!

They need to speak up about NX though. Like right about now.

I just saw the footage from the Apple conference. It was pretty good. They changed the mechanics of Mario to suit mobile. It's obvious it would have to play as a runner but the jumping mechanics are nice, especially how Mario does parkour moves now.

The reaction from that crowd, I'm not going to be surprised with how it does when this releases.

Biggest announcement of the day by far. And I love that it can be on my phone with me on the go and on my iPad. It looked like a lot of fun too.

It's going to sell a lot as long as the price is right. I'm wondering what type of in app purchases there will be.

I also can't imagine it took a lot of resources to make this.

New page so here is the clarification.

THIS IS NOT AN ENDLESS RUNNER.

This is a runner game with DISTINCT PREMADE LEVELS, HIGH SCORES, and GOAL POINTS.
