Sony announces PS4 Pro, $399, November 10th

I think I'm wondering what everyone else is right now. I don't have a 4K TV, and am probably years away from getting one, so are the other tweaks in the Pro worth upgrading my launch PS4?

PS4 Pro unboxing videos already popping up out there...

$400 is a good price

the rest of the specs are meh

it looks like they put the $100 mostly in the gpu

8gb ram is disappoint and so is no 4k player wth?

There will no doubt be frame rate improvements. They just don't demo well on stage because that involves admitting that you struggled to hit 30fps on current hardware.

Naughty Dog dev confirmed on the PS stream that single-player games can get a frame rate improvement if the Dev's choose to go that route.

Multiplayer games have to be the same frame rate. Will this push some Devs to go the route of Battlefield? ogPS4 games 900p60 PS4Pro 1080p60? It's 2016... 60fps is a necessity for competitive MP games.. resolution is not.

The funny thing is that ultra-comp games like CS, people downgrade the resolution/effects as much as possible. Crispiness/responsiveness is king.

I can't see how the posted specs would use more than 200 Watts, let alone upto 50% more.

If the 8GB RX480 at 1266MHz only uses 150 Watts how does the rest of the system also use 150 Watts, it makes no sense at all.

I'm gonna explain it to you. They probably produced a tonne of these, they're gonna have to firesale them post initial launch. Plus with added bonus of almost certainly guaranteeing core gamer, higher ARPA accounts moving to Scorpio. Simples. This is the very definition of fuck up.

Their target audience are the people on this site. Look at the reaction.

A firesale for the PlayStation 4 Pro seems pretty unlikely. I don't know what you mean by "ARPA" but anyone that wants to buy an Xbox One Scorpio still has about fourteen months to wait.

I'm pretty confident both the new Slim and the new Pro will sell quite well, but we can come back to this after the holidays.

The whole thing came off as a red headed stepchild that they don't even like and just wanted to get out of the way as fast as possible. Try to actually sell me on the thing? The showing here was absolutely barebones. It didn't answer any of the relevant questions I had except the price.

Cerny's voice went two octaves higher when responding to the question 'how is it being received by devs?'

"It's good!"

Haha, I bet these are some interesting times at Sony. They don't seem sure if they're on the right track or confident in HDR driving any significant business. I think once this became more of a reality and not just an idea, they realized the kind of shit they were in having to sell everyone as well as educate them.

This is just bizarre. Make a console.mostly.aimed at making the most of 4K tv's and don't include A 4k bluray capable drive in the thing, the place where you'll get the highest quality 4K content. That is legitimately mental. I mean, I'm guessing the drive would cost maybe $5-10 more. Might be wrong. Main thing is if the XB1S can include one then Sony have no excuse. It's literally nonsensical and quite maddening. I'm just glad I won't have a 4K tv anytime soon... I still want the Pro, and I know it will benefit PSVR and just generally give better image quality in my games... But that ommission seems seriously short sighted..

I would assume that Sony has pretty good projections about what UHD Blu Ray sales will look like. The fact they decided to forgo the drive is telling.

Doesn't look nearly as good as the og PS4, but I'm excited.

*improvements to games + 4k + HDR
*Improved wi-fi
*USB on the back

Lack of UHD is somewhat disappointing, but I honestly buy movies so rarely I doubt I would've actually bought one.

I'll be selling my launch ps4 to a friend soon.

Everything went pretty much as I expected.
Same specs as the leaks, 299$ and 399$ prices. You can bet on Slim drop to 250$ in time for the holiday season.
Pro is what it is, a Pro model of the PS4, no iterative model or next gen console. It's the best possible PS4 experience.
Given the relatively cheap price there is no reason not to buy a Pro if you're looking for a PS4 and have or plan to buy a 4K TV set.
Only disappointment for me is the lack of UHD BR drive...I mean yeah they might think that physical formats are dead and they might be right as well, but if Microsoft is offering it in a 299$ Xbox model they don't have a valid justification here.

Given how I have a Samsung 49KS8000TV I'm selling my PS4 to a friend and upgrading to this.

100% agreed. IF they think this is going to cater to the masses. Its not. Its not even catering to the small minority on the internet ala reddit/neogaf.

So the mock up was pretty much an exact replica of the PS4 Pro. Sony must be very disappointed by that.

I am disappointed that a UHD bluray drive has been omitted. I think it would have been the cherry on top, and made the upgrade from OG PS4 totally worth it.

This is a good point. This was never gonna have the mass market appeal. It was gonna be enthusiast crowd+people who didn't have one already. Enthusiast crowd like Gaf. I was hyped as hell but this thing can go suck it based on what I know about it.

No UHD 4K Blu Ray Player
No 4K native games
Same Jaguar cpu

I mean what's going on this is basically a system made for the PSVR.

Someone please explain how to play a game in native 4K when it doesn't have a 4K drive?

If it only upscales, then it's no different than my 4K tv upscaling.
