Sony announces PS4 Pro, $399, November 10th

My friend is asking me if he preorders it on the gamestop website if he has to pay for additional shipping to get it on release day. Any ideas. I told him to wait for amazon, but he seems fixed on ordering it now.

Pre-ordered via Amazon. It says Dec 29 but I'm sure that will change. Canceling my PSVR now.

Historically, Is Gamestop better or worse to pre-order consoles than Amazon? Anyone know?

Amazon always deliver on release day to me and I don't pay taxes. Plus if anything happens I know Amazon has great customer service so everything will be good.

Someone please explain how to play a game in native 4K when it doesn't have a 4K drive?

If it only upscales, then it's no different than my 4K tv upscaling.

It doesn't do native 4K they spent a whole section of the conference talking about upscaling with out saying the word Upscale. It does the same thing the Xbox One S does Upscale.

Too bad most of you aren't feeling it.

I think you'll change your mind once you see the 4K video feeds. I think it looks pretty damn amazing, and I've only seen Mass Effect.

4.2 TF is nothing to scoff at! I wonder why some of you feel otherwise..Is it because of the Scorpio pipe dream?

They're lucky they got the price in at $399 because anymore would have been damn hard to justify for even enthusiasts.

No 4K BD
No native 4K games
Same RAM
Same CPU (sped up)
Higher power consumption

Just. Yikes.

Just preordered off that Amazon link even though date is messed up and all of that. It looked like the real deal and if it was not, will just cancel.

100% agreed. IF they think this is going to cater to the masses. Its not. Its not even catering to the small minority on the internet ala reddit/neogaf.

At this point I would be surprised if they announced an even better console revision to go against Scorpio, which is not releasing until next year.

Resolution rendering in a game has nothing to do with the drive type.

PS4 Pro will usually be target some multiple of 1080p resolution when feeding a 4K TV e.g. 1800p. It will be a better source image for upscaling than the 1080p (or less...) image from a standard PS4.

Phew, the optical out is there. Dodged that bullet one more time.

This is not what they did shown. Games were still 30 fps.
They showed Epic's game with improved visuals in 1080p. Games that can't reach 60FPS in 1080p will have visuals dialed up higher than it's possible on PS4.

it won't be 4k on ps4 pro mate.
I'm not sure what they've said for WD2 specifically, buy they are probably shooting for checkered rendering 4K with most games. Which yes, is "fake" 4K, but still far better than simply upscaled lower resolution.

So I guess we can put you on team #firesale? How unexpected.

Any pics yet or do we have to wait for it to show up at CEX?
Edit: pics found!
My VR native support expectations were all for nothing I guess, I wonder if the breakout box still resembles the ps4 model they discontinued?

Like ive said before

Were gonna get a game that runs flawlessly on the pro, and will run like absolute dogshit on the regular ps4.

How is that fair to current owners?

Not true. It's upscaling (or reconstructing) from higher resolutions and 4K checkerboards etc. For example 1800p would be over double the source resolution as 1080p. That's quite different from a straight upscale from a 1080p or lower image ala Xbox One S or as what your TV would do anyway.

How do you know this?
