Destiny: Rise of Iron - Launch Trailer

Destiny 2 isn't coming out next week

I'm not talking about time. I've played all of Destiny and its expansions. This is more of the same. What Destiny 2 will be is not clear, but it's doubtful that it will be more of the same, just bigger.

The question is, do I want to pay $30 to play more of the same, or wait until Destiny 2 and pay $60 to play something that is likely to be a different game?

What are you talking about?

New horned helmet @ 0:38
New armor sets shown @ 0:59
New armor sets shown @ 1:03 that look amazing
New armor sets shown @ 1:21 that look pretty cool

The thing that bothers me is that it feels like the best looking stuff shown on the trailer is going to be somehow locked behind an additional pay silver wall (and alternatively extremely low odds RNG). For example the fire ornaments.

Don't expect anything mechanic heavy like King's fall.

Think it's going to be more in line with Crota in terms of length and difficulty.

Good. King's Fall was shit to replay. I was fine with doing it a few times but god damn sometimes I like to just breeze through a raid once you have it down. Couldn't do that with KF but could with Crota's End and Vault of Glass.

We watched the same trailer right?

Pretty much. Bungie knows what they're doing when it comes to music, all of it in Destiny is so good.

Yeah I am not sure what dude was smoking/watching.

The new raid armor and Iron Lords armor looks great. New weapons look good. They brought back a ton of year 1 gear at updated levels. Clearing out the previous gen opened up the ability to have more stuff in game. No more 'seasons' of gear, you can still get TTK gear from specific events, where as before that stuff all but disappeared.

I feel like for $30 its not a big ask especially if you have been playing.

If people missed out on TTTk then you really missed out because it fleshed the game out to where it really should have been at launch sadly.

Even with all that, Bungie still came back in April and did another large update to give the game some new life.

I'm excited. Mechanically speaking it is such a great game and they have done a lot to flesh out the world.

The team that did Taken King took over Destiny 2 which is supposed to be its own game, which will be interesting to see how they let players being their guardians over. ROI will probably have a couple of live team updates over the next 8 months or so before the Destiny 2 push starts. So if you haven't played the game its worth it. There is a lot of meat on the bones.

Will the Raid be locked to light level or some shit? I walked away when my "friends" out leveled me and I couldn't join raids with them due to a light level barrier. Now when we shares beers and Destiny comes up in conversation my eyes narrow to slits and I emit a low hsssssssss.

Well it kind of has to be. Balance and all of that.

If your gonna play Destiny 2 don't you want to stay updated on everything Destiny?

Yes. That's how end game content works.

Of course. You wouldn't walk into a dungeon with level 99 monsters as a level 50 in an RPG, and you can't do it in Destiny either. Raids will always require you to be near max light level to beat.

Definitely get in on it. The game has really changed and is full of content. If you have friends to play with even better. If not, this community on GAF is insanely big.

I have a warlock at 334 and friends to play with, but most have dropped off in their play time and are not sure if they are getting the expansion. I definitely think there's a fair bit of tiredness in the formula. I'll probably get it anyways because its more Destiny, but I am definitely more excited to see what Destiny 2 will be.

I've come to terms with what Destiny is, so I'm in. There's no way I don't get 30 bucks (roughly two drinks in my town) of enjoyment out of it. I'll play it off and on for a few weeks, finish everything, hop back on two months later for the raid, then disappear until Destiny 2.

I've heard murmurs this has an actual story in it. TTK had a named antagonist and something roughly resembling a plot, so maybe Bungie is making progress here.

I really enjoyed watching KGoth and his gang go for world first on the raid, was soo much fun.

I'll be watching again this time around.

Nice, I am very curious about it. I really enjoyed my time with Taken King so if this has a decent set of story missions again I will bite.

Are you one of those people that barely plays and expects your "friends" (not sure why you put that in quotes) to wait for you all the time? Can't stand that

The best looking stuff will be rare probably :D

As much as I've enjoyed Destiny I think I'm going to wait for Destiny 2. I'd probably burn through this content in a day.

Same here. All it's done has gotten me excited again for the next, full Destiny experience. I'll be back in a year or two when that releases. I'm sure there will be an inexpensive way to catch up right before as well.

After being hugely put off from the initial release, The Taken King brought me back in a big way and I put a ton of hours into it (And really enjoyed it during that time). I've since fallen off again, but don't have a strongly negative opinion about the game anymore.

That said, I just haven't seen anything to drive me forward on this one. I want a meaty, single player focused set of content. I don't get the sense that this will be that.

Never played before, is there going to a bundle with all the expansions and base game in it for this?
Yes.

Sure! If you don't care for story, you can wait a year till Destiny 2

Yep, the "story" may be why I buy it. We all know the original story was terrible, but it has gotten progressively better each expansion.

I do wish this expansion was $20 instead of $30, the new content seems to better match the former price.

I don't remember Raid being locked for low level players.

First time I did Crota I was carried by a group where I was so low level that I can't damage simple enemies in the Raid so I just take safe spots and watched them doing everything.

Quit playing when Sparrow Racing League launched. Ready to get back in for my bi-annual dose of Destiny. Already have RoI pre-ordered. Its a long shot but I might even get my Y2 MoT complete before the deadline.

Even with Marty gone, Bungie still has the best music in video games.

Marty was always over hyped.

Even with Marty gone, Bungie still has the best music in video games.

Marty wrote all the music for Destiny (all 10 years worth) before he was fired. You're likely hearing his stuff still unless I missed something.

Pete Parsons, chief operating officer of Bungie, asked O’Donnell to create all of the music for the entire Destiny franchise at the same time, rather than writing the themes one at a time for each of the game installments. O’Donnell composed a symphonic suite of eight movements, working with the legendary ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. O’Donnell recorded that music in early 2013. Dubbed the Music of the Spheres, the music will be used throughout the Destiny franchise.

No way. The music since Marty left has been as generic as it gets. I still enjoy Destiny, but there is a clear quality difference between Marty's music and the stuff we're getting now.

This. I loved the soundtrack from ttk, but it was nowhere near as masterful as the y1 soundtrack. You could easily spot the difference.

I'm having a really hard time deciding whether or not I'm in for this expansion. I play Destiny mostly for the multiplayer, but burned out on that about a month ago. It's hard to justify spending $30 on an expansion if I don't plan on playing the raid or grinding strikes at all. I wish there was a way we could just buy the new multiplayer maps, but I know that is impossible. I may be taking this year off and make COD4RM my go to multiplayer game for the year.

Passed on the original due to lack of content and just kind of forgot about the game. Really looking forward to jumping in now and getting a year of play before destiny 2. Is the PS4 NeoGAF community still pretty strong? I have some friends i'll be starting with but like having others to group up to avoid playing with randoms.

Yeah it's still huge.

The whole ten year plan has been changed and modified so many times I really doubt it to be honest. Rise of Iron wasn't originally planned as an expansion, it was created as a stop-gap since Destiny 2 wasn't done in time.

Nah Marty didnt get a credit in TTK, as would be required if it was his music. Not sure about RoI, haven't seen the credits but I doubt it honestly.

Marty wrote music of spheres. And Bungie owns it, but they haven't been using it which is their right.
