New Horizon: Zero Dawn Gameplay from the TGS 2016 Media Session

The town was far more populated and alive looking than I expected for an early village. Combat and the options available look fantastic.

Is this OG PS4 or PS4 Pro footage? The vegetation draw distance is massively improved.

I think it looks smoother. When Aloy rides, you can still see a lot of vegetation being drawn in, but it doesn't seem to pop as noticeably as it did back at E3. Stream quality could be masking some of it too.

Anyone got a gif of how she mounted the month just before it got destroyed? Looked really seamless and fast, which is often not the case in open-world RPGs.

The facial animations look much better, but still not too great, but besides that really liked everything they showed, the village looked great, the combat looks fun and challenging and the sound design is great, though that's not really that surprising, GG have always been great with that.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Greater draw distance=less pop in, basically.

Since I am not very bothered by the shitty animations in Mankind Divided, I'm sure I'll be able to play through this game without breaking a sweat. BRING THIS TO MEEE

The draw-in for the grass seemed better now, but the pop-in for details and shadows and stuff seemed worse now I thought.

About the facial animations... I actually think Horizon has one of the best in the open world scenario. Most, if not all open world games has some very shitty facial animations for NPCs.

It looks very similar to the build shown on GG's post-E3 stream, which was standard PS4.

Foliage pop-in has a seen massive improvement in this build. The tribal leader and merchant had good facial animation and voice acting as well so I feel a bit encouraged that Guerrilla will tighten that area up in the next 5 months or so.

I know what you meant, and it did look like things were sort of fading in as opposed to popping like they had previously. But, go to 28.20 and start watching. There's still some really noticeable pop on the trail and during the fight before (27:20) vegetation and shadow pop and very noticeable. Honestly, I think it's the same, but that the stream is masking a lot of the LOD changes that you wouldn't have to squint to notice with HQ media.

I agree. Stream quality made it hard to notice while skipping through footage, but now that I've been watching more it's pretty obvious things are essentially the same.

Yeah, it's really not too bad considering the open-world competitors. I still think Witcher 3 does a much better job from what I've seen of both, though. Faces in Witcher just seem much more alive and less robotic than what we've seen so far in Horizon.

Is this Pro or vanilla PS4 footage?

I believe it is standard (speculating)

since the Pro footage was more colourful or rather vibrant and the lighting was more dynamic

but then again that could just be due to it being a stream and being set in a cloudy environment

Plus it literally later looks like the E3 footage

Outside the people in the village we already seen this. Is it possible for them to demo the game just free roaming? Man..

On another note they have a wooden wall and gate that protects their village

but lol I don't think that will stop some Robo T-REX from bargaining in

other clans and smaller robots, yeah sure but even that "demon" can shoot out rocket launchers

just found it quite funny since they are low grade in technology

of course though they can literally kill it before it approaches like they did to the T-Rex (Thunder Jaw)

They probably dont want to show everything just yet. The game is launching in February 2017 (somehow I feel it will get delayed again though...), so there is still plenty of time to show new stuff.

I think the curse thing is new to them, robo dino actually living alongside the tribe, that explains why they are not ready for huge invasion.

I'm pretty sure the Robots don't bother humans as long as they stay out of their territory, or if they get infected, which I'm guessing is a new thing. So wouldn't be surprised if they've built their camps in places just outside their territory for easy hunting.

I got chills when Aloy was leaving the village and the Thunderjaw was right there destroyed, also John mentioning the Thunderjaw was corrupted? Imagine that thing destroying everything in it's path.

Great video! Thanks! Game looks stunning. Couldn't get over how terrible that player was, but you can't do anything about that!

You wouldn't believe how terrible at this type of game people are at the TGS. I remember we spent at least 15 minutes trying to find someone who could move in a straight line in Killzone SF 3 years ago...

I'll try to find some but so far I think they've been poorly showing off this game.

It's an open word RPG. I think it will a lot of your standard side and hopefully some unique ones. During one playthrough of this demo I've watched she stumbled across a "bandit camp" which you should be well acquainted with if you played The Witcher 3.

I think any Pro footage will likely have a disclaimer at the bottom.

But yeah, Sony should just confirm that once and for all what their policy is going to be about showing footage (even if it is just that, that there will be a disclaimer whenever the Pro version of the game is being shown)

Like what I'm seeing so far, but the motion blur whenever the camera moved was really strong. Hope that's just something weird with the video, otherwise I hope that gets toned down.

oh yeah, silly me I forgot about this lol

They already said anytime the Pro version is being shown it'll be disclosed at the bottom of the screen.

Not sold on the character interactions or dialogue, to be honest. But the gameplay and world are good enough for me to get this game.

Nice look at a small village in this presentation and more importantly it looked alive and vibrant.
Combat still looks awesome.
GG just polish this game to high heaven and we have a winner!

True, not to dig out Bethesda but their NPC/facial tech stuff is awful. Although it's getting better for a lot of open world games, TW3 nailed it's cinematics for instance.

Horizon facial animations imo are more than adequate for this genre, and they still have 5 left to sharpen things.

No matter how much I see I cannot get into this, despite being intrigued by the first announcement.

I believe this is the same E3 2016 build, but with some extra town footage; really like how lively the town looks. Are there any other open world games where the destructability is of the level of Horizon? Because it is quite impressive how the robot ( corruptor) is wrecking all the trees and houses.

It's not the E3 build. The grass was popping up two feet in front of you in that one.
