Does anyone know if it is possible for 2 users to use the same PC to do different things at the same time on 2 different displays?

I'd love to game with headphones whilst the missus uses the internet.

At least in windowed mode, I imagine.

I'm not so sure. Seems like there would be conflicts since (I think- don't have a dual monitor set up) you can only have one active window at a time. You'd constantly be losing control of mouse/keyboard every time the other person tried to do something on the other screen.

I have no doubt that there is some specialty software you could install to allow what fozzy is asking about, but it's not something built into Windows natively afaik.

Yeah I thought I was having some luck when I expanded my display. Could get video to play on one whilst I controlled the mouse on the desktop. Think separate sound would be the issue.

I think my Android phone has some kind of malware. Which is really weird as I don't use the thing for anything except calling and as an alarm clock, and I can't connect the start of the fuckery to anything I did. I haven't browsed a website on this phone in months, and the problem started just today. The last app I installed was the Mirror's Edge Catalyst app, and that was weeks ago.

Every time I start the phone a web browser window came up. The content varies, but it's always some obvious attempt to scam. Sign up here for naked women, click on this button to upgrade your phone. Garbage like that.

After uninstalling and removing everything I ever put on this phone (which was just a handful of apps) I realized it might be the web browser, and after disabling it (it can't be uninstalled) the scam popups stopped appearing. But instead I now get a blank white window when I start the phone. I have no idea what this window is since the browser should be disabled now.

I then installed Avast antivirus which found nothing.

What the fuck do I do? Whatever hijacked the browser is clearly still on the phone. I'm about ready to yank the sim card out of this thing and throw it in the trash.

Edit: Okay, I think I may have fixed it. As a Linux user I'm not used to having to protect my computer and I'm not up to date with the trusted names in protection software, but I eventually found my way to Malwarebytes mobile which detected and removed a trojan. With the file it deleted gone, the popups have stopped.

The scary part is that it was in a file called AsusNetwork.apk which makes me worried that the malware was put on my phone by ASUS when updating the system software. Though I suppose it could have come from somewhere else and used that file as a hiding place.

okay...i wanna buy a dyson fan. my landlady isn't really home most of the time, so i don't think she'll even be home if it gets delivered to our doorstep. the usps guy or ups guy will probably leave it there i guess...is there a chance it'll get stolen?

There's always a chance if they'll leave it there. Can you ask a neighbour to accept it for you? If you can then either order it directly to their address but with your name on it, or order it to your address and tell the company to deliver it to that person's address if you're not in. Or alternatively just ask a family member if you can send it to them.

okay thanks, I have to think about this

Any tips on getting water out of your ear? I've tried ear wax removal medicine (some dissolvent spray and ear cleansing water spray from the pharmacy), I've done the pressure release, held my breath while holding my nose, I've tried jumping on one leg, and nothing seems to do the trick. At least, I THINK there's water and/or too much wax in there. I've never had it before but this morning I got completely deaf on my left ear just like that.

Edit: Feels kinda like I'm swollen inside the ear too somehow. It gets free for a few seconds when I press lightly on the ear, but then it clamps up again.

Okay, so like, why is Japan so powerful economically?
Apparently it has the third largest economy in the world, behind the States and China (and the E.U. I guess).
what's the reason for this? do they just have really pro-business laws or something?
It seems like they should just be a relatively unimportant island nation (okay, not unimportant, but certainly not third in the world).
Possibly related, why is/was Japan so prominent in the video game industry?

I dont know the answer, but they do have a shit tonne of exports, particularly the automotive industry and tech stuff.

I have idea's for threads, and then I search to see if anyone has made a thread about it, but then, even when I can't find anything on the subject I end up getting too intimidated to make a thread about it. Either I feel like I won't be able to make a good enough topic or I just end up giving up. Does anyone else ever feel the same? I feel so dumb for feeling like this. I can't be alone. I overthink things.

If you feel the need to talk about something you can't find a thread for, do it.

Sort of, yeah. And then I see the dumbass inane shit some people make threads for and I wonder why I ever hesitate at all.

Do I need a monitor to set up a tv for a pc? Can I just plug in the tv directly to the PC?

You should be fine. Only reason an issue might arise is if your PC was previously set for a higher resolution than the TV supports. Nothing a boot into safe mode wouldn't be able to fix though.

I've never understood prime numbers :lol Prime numbers can only be divided by 1 and itself iirc. But can't all numbers do that? O_o

Are there any volunteer programs that would allow an Englishman like myself to work in America? Looking to do some residential volunteering work abroad and it would be really nice to work there in any capacity.

Is there any way to force Windows to throttle Windows Update's bandwidth usage? It seems that there is some 3GB download that basically crippled my slow connection all of last night and a bit of today, only to claim that it failed to install, and now it is trying to start the whole damn thing over.

Is my hdmi broken? Picture is fine but when I connect my laptop to the tv, sound is only coming directly from the laptop, not the tv speakers (and the volume is not at 0).

Edit: nvm, audio settings xD

With two factor authentication, especially ones that are tied to a separate physical device, would it be extremely stupid to forgo a complicated, robust password and instead use something easier to remember/type?

I know about services like Lastpass that will automate the process so it's not a balancing act of security and convenience but ignoring that, I'm just wondering if there is any real additional risk involved.

I'm taking introduction to HTML classes on Udacity, and already I wanna destroy things:
How do I get Sublime Text to give me snippets/autocomplete tags when I start typing, say, "<div>". I want it to guess properly and autocomplete the tag/close tag element when hitting the tab key. Yet it doesn't do that.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills: the video tutorial for that part clearly says sublimetext autocompletes, and from what I can understand, my preferences in Sublime Text are set to "true" when it comes to autocompletion.

I'm already going nuts at this crap not functioning properly. Please help me keep my sanity. I'm on Windows btw.

Does anyone else have this issue:

Hovering over selections in drop-down menus doesn't change the color of the selection.

You can't tell by the screen-cap but my mouse is hovering over "neogaf twitter" and the selection doesn't change color to notify that it's being highlighted. It stays the same color as the other selections.

I calibrated my monitor recently and I'm not sure if websites always worked like this or if I messed up my contrast or white balance.

I see a grey background in your screenshot.

Same here. Probably a contrast issue as you mentioned.

At work, I use multiple programs and files, such as excel and word files. I think I'm on XP (...) and whenever I have multiple files open of the same type, like two excels, if I open either one of them, the other one pops up below it even though it's been minimized. Is there a way to stop this from happening? It's SO annoying and I've never seen this behavior before. Same thing with word, folders (I think), Chrome, Explorer etc. but primarily the MS Office tools.

What's the best way to clean a laptop screen? :/ It's a work computer and I don't want to mess it up. I have a few streaky blotches on there. Can I use those Nice'n'Clean wipes? Like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/252396176784

I use them for my glasses normally. I really really do not want to mess up the screen. I tried using a tissue and the little tissue particulates mixed with the gunk instead. :(

There are special sprays that you use with a clean cloth for that. There may be some special wipes, too.

What would be a good alternative to Yahoo mail that is not gmail?

Given it now appears that Yahoo can not be trusted with... anything I need a secondary email that's reliable, has an android app with push, 2 step authentication and if at all possible will not take two years to tell me that there has been a security breach.

Why do I see this in some posts?

Y2JCnLN.png

I screenshot it because it appears to be some emoji code and I have no idea what it will translate to if I paste the actual . Is it something that works on mobile but not desktops?

How does the download version of ultraviolet work?
I have such for The Witch, can I download the UV and save the file on a USB and go to another computer and watch it there? Like on vlc?
