Seiten Taisei/Sun Wukong and Hecate respectively. Both previously in SMT.

Thinking about this more...so far the Personas start out as beings defiant of government authority, and then evolve into beings defiant of divine authority. Wonder if that pattern will hold true through the rest.

Apparently, the reason Makoto doesn't show up in the Valentines day event is because the player actually went out with Makoto on valentines, and this is all of them showing up the day afterwards pissed off because they realized the protagonist was cheating on them.

Are there any gays in this game this is important

Just the usual "let's laugh at them" scene in the Babe Hunt section of the game, so far. Same-Sex S.Link are unlikely given the lack of blushing sprites for Yusuke and Yuki.

is it?

or is he a alternate boss like elizabeth or margaret, like in P3/4

It's not Igor at least, since the nameplate says "Igor(u)?" (No idea if the black spot on the Go Katakana means anything.)

Well at this point it seems like it's a big no for social links. But hey they will include gay people so they can be used for laughs by making the guys feel uncomfortable. Thanks Hashino.

Note, I am not 100% confident on the S. Links thing though.

Mess...but not surprising. Oh well, the game still looks great and I'll play it eventually. Thanks for the info guys!

Me, stupidly: "Maybe Persona 5 will be a step forward, it's been nearly a decade, and during that time gay people have made huge strides in equality in Japan"
Persona 5: "Gays are icky!!! Look how weird and creepy and perverted they are, hitting on the boys like that! Oh by the way you can totally fuck your teacher and a number of other grown ass women"

Yeah. That was kinda surprising since they generally avoided this in previous games. I can sorta see where the motivation for it is though. If the Famitsu is any sort of representation, the majority of people playing P5 are going to be over 20, and Persona games generally encourage you to self-insert. In this way, you sorta have the LI's more near the protagonist's age and others that are more likely near the player's age.

It's even more puzzling when you realize (Persona 2 spoiler)
Yusuke is literally Jun look wise, even the uniform sorta looks like The Joker outfit:

Like for what purpose, just to raise people expectations and then crush them lol? :/

Might want to spoiler-tag that since this is a thread for P5.

Aside from that, Jun and Yusuke seem pretty different personality-wise. Then again, people don't really seem to remember much about Jun other than him being Joker and being a possible gay LI (which pretty much just seems to apply to co-op moves).

More like "Oh, those wacky gays! When will they ever learn? ;D"

As soon as I saw a close-up of Anne's butt in the trailer I knew exactly who the target demographic of this game is. Gotta get them otaku dollars.

Yeah it was pretty clear. I'm still buying the game and im sure it's amazing. I would have liked one gay option but eh maybe next game.

Not again...I had such high hopes from P5 to be progressive in this area. Though, we can expect most of this to be localized much differently. So most people aren't going to pick up on it.

I await the day that a Gay/Bi option is more accepted in general from Japan's media. Hopefully, the LGBTQ community in Japan Notifies Atlus of this.

Wops sorry, didn't think about it much given that P2 is so old, but I guess it doesn't hurt.

People keep saying it, and yet. =P

If they wanted to do it, P5 would have been the perfect place, they already toyed with the idea in P4 and Kanji was generally a pretty well received character (And P3P FemMC could date Aigis and Elizabeth...) and yet, even Nintendo manage to have a gay option before Atlus. Nintendo!

Yeah. I know what you mean. I'd say that anyone interested in playing P2 at this point's already likely played it, but I guess a decent number of new people might visit it for the first time after P5.

Kanji wasn't gay, though I don't think the devs would want to admit it after speculation. The only guy he gets a crush on is Naoto who turns out to be a girl who he still has a crush on afterwards. The situation is more 'I have a crush on this guy?' followed by 'Oh! I guess that's why.' Both their shadows were also about gender roles than sexuality.

As far as Nintendo goes, the only reason they put in the effort is because they're internationally focused. Them getting a bad rep in the west really affects them due to this. This is why they put out the bare minimum effort for Fates to reduce complaints. I'd expect the same effort in the next FE game since it did help in that.

Atlus doesn't face the same pressure due to being Japan-focused and as seen in the last year, don't really pay attention to Western reception.

Granted that wasn't particularly superb (Though I Really like Zero/Niles as a character so it was neat seeing a good character actually be Bi.) and definitely could use improvement. It's worth noting that the LGBTQ community in Japan did try to open a dialogue with Nintendo to make better representations of the community in the Future. I would hope for the same to occur with Atlus.

With "toyed around" I meant they initially planned a romance for Yosuke and even recorded audio for it.... didn't they?

I think Kanji is straight, but I think you can make some argument about him being BI.

Never looked into it in detail, but I think he did have recordings or something that people who knew Japanese said is more reserved for lovers.

For P5, I figured from the beginning that a male romance would be more for the female audience which isn't insignificant.

I agree. I'm just thinking more from the devs' perspective. I've never been big on 'death of the author' type interpretation.

AFAIK it's not clear one way or the other going by the audio and there's already a line like it in the game. I don't think the tidbit is ever questioned so it spreads without resistance.

Goro's AoA is pretty great. His, Haru's and Yusuke's are my favorite.

People keep saying that but I don't really believe it. It was probably just fujobait.

Maybe in another 8 years when we get P6.
Maybe not.

Shout out to ToFuDan on twitch for streaming for a literal 19 hours today. He finished up the Casino dungeon and did all the fun stuff after that and stopped right before the next dungeon. He's been streaming like crazy. I've pretty much seen a majority of the game now. Even without understanding everything, game looks absolutely fantastic.

Yeah. The story looks a lot stronger and tighter compared to the previous Persona games where they were usually only 1 or 2 days of the month. It's also surprising that he's still only in November now that we know the game goes to at least February.

I absolutely don't get how Persona 5 doesn't have any. The fact that Persona 2 did - and that some of the dev team felt it was the canon option! - and this game coming out 17 years later doesn't is bizarre to me. Modern Atlus has been so regressive about that.

Also new info that I think might be accurate for the whole Igor situation. Apparently, the Igor you interact with the majority of the game is a fake. The girl that people have been seeing isn't Caroline and Justine fused, but the protagonist's real assistant who wants to free Igor who was imprisoned somewhere in the prison. Igor and both Caroline and Justine are apparently enemies that will need to be fought later on (don't think we know the details yet).

Edit: Getting conflicting information about Caroline and Justine's roles in all this. Apparently, they were split in two? Have to wait for more confirmation.

Posted this question in the import thread but I think here would probably be best. Are there any cameos besides the posters and P2 reference? I'm talking about something similar to P4 where the characters meet someone from the other games.

I'd also like to know this.

If anyone didn't already figured out, The teacher, Sadayo, her job as a delivery health provider means a form of prositution. That is deep...

Ann's ultimate persona is the best.

I think that's what an evolved Persona should looke like.

All the other ultimate Personas doesn't look anywhere close to there initial state.

Looks like there's a two month timeskip after New Years for Valentines and then one more to the same day as Persona 4.
