Very disappointed so far with the Xbox One S. What's going on here?

Yeah every single thing you posted happened to me when I bought an Xbone. Used it for a few days and sold it. I hated the entire experience.

I'm not knocking the system that's just my experience with it.

Wait, all three of you had these problems?

I've never had Halo 5 freeze on me once.

That sounds very weird.

Snapping is terrible and I don't use it because of that but everything else has been the complete opposite for me, and I'm in preview.

Sounds like the Xbox One experience tbh.

If I could be bothered I would grab a bunch of your posts because you are the one sentence king. I don't think I've read a post of yours that's been longer than this one.

-Headphones. On PS4, when you route game audio to the headset it automatically mutes the sound coming from tv/speakers. Do you really have to mute your tv/speakers manualy on xbox one? Yes.

-Mic audio - is there not a way to adjust your own mic input to the console? One of our friend's mic is really quiet compared to everyone else. Does he have to buy that headset controller adapter to get that functionality? I think there is under devices and accessories but I could be mistaken.

-Headset audio dropouts. Game audio will randomly dropout, leaving only chat audio. Sometimes, the reverse happens. Sometimes both drop out. The fix is to remove headset from controller and plug it back in.

This happens to me when I use my old Eneloops (they're dying). I think the controller draws too much power with my headset plugged in (Astro A40).

-Disk drive - while installing Halo 5, my friends disk drive was making a loud noise. His recording sounded like a washing machine.
Not normal.

HALO: MCC:

-Lots of freezes on startup. The microsoft studios logo will freeze everytime I startup. Sometimes the entire game freezes.
It shouldn't freeze on startup.

-After multiplayer games, it kicks you out instead of searching for another game.
That's normal.

HALO 5:

-When launching halo 5. It crashes on the splash screen back to the xbox home screen sometimes, requiring restart.
Not normal
-Forge file browser. This is not showing as available for 2 of us. The third accesses it just fine. Mine was working one day and not the next.
I've never experienced that but it sounds like it's possibly network related on your end

-Halo reqs. Anytime one of my friends accessed his req's during warzone, the system says something like "Retrieving data", He was also never able to look at the previous game's scoreboard while waiting in the lobby.
This has happened to me a couple of times, but resolves itself in the next match

-Forge maps. There are alot of maps that have moving parts of the level. These will stop moving completely in all parts of the map for many minutes at a time. This made maps unplayable.
Definitely a glitch, the latest update probably broke something.

-The game's graphics are disapointing. Is multiplayer 1080p? It looks low res at times with lots of aliasing and shimmering. On some maps, the environment textures lack any detail at all.
Probably the official forge maps, and yeah they do look pretty bad graphically.

-Random disconnects during multiplayer
These should be rare. I've only had a few since the game launched.
-"Can't reserve dedicated server" errors when starting games
I've never seen that so idk.

Errr that is impossible.

The Xbox One OS is faster than the PS4 OS. You can reach the most important stuff quicker than on the PS4. It can still fell less snappy but it is faster.

Believe it or not but since the OS update last year it is faster in all the most important aspects.

The new dashboard update made it faster already last year. Still Xbox UI has problems.
Store is slow for me for example.

I genuinely find it hilarious how long it takes my XB1 ( not S) to start up. It's ridiculous. I love the thing, but it's crazy. Cannot wait for Scorpio.

Seems strange to see all three owners have these issues given that it doesn't all seem to be the fault of the UI or console itself.

Ummmm that's an usually high number of issues, OP :/ I've had a One since MCC came out, and experienced very few of the issues you have.

I don't have a single friend who plays on the xbox so I can't relate to your party chat issues, but

the xbox ui is a piece of shit and will apparently continue to be a piece of shit through the lifespan of this console. both from a performance and usability standpoint. Snapping apps is included in this.

doing anything with MCC other than trying to select items from a menu is asking for trouble. game is still sketchy, at best.

Does someone's network tie into performance of the UI? There is such a large discrepancy of stories out there that there has to be reason we see "response time is a second" and "nah, more like 6 !"

I posted a video a while back of me navigating my UI and everything popped instantaneously even with a game running in the background

I believe a lot of UI elements are being pulled from servers, so it definitely can have an effect on how pictures and tiles load in. Not just game pics, videos, and ads; but also your pinned tiles since they're synced to your profile in case you move to another console.

Is your XB1 power cord connected to the wall and not a surge protector? The XB1 has built-in surge protection and connecting it to surge protector will cause problems.

Just wait until your controller decides not to connect. Always a fun surprise.

The UI is crap.

Can't comment about Halo 5 issues. I don't recall having any.

Highly disagree.

It can't be and shouldn't be a matter of raw performance. I mean it's just a user interface, there's no reason you should need to quadruple your performance to prevents app from hanging and button presses to be registered after several seconds.
I don't know exactly how MS could mess it up when they're supposed to have the most expertise on that field, but there's definitely something wrong in how they're handling the Xbox OS. I'm not even talking about design, which is (or was) mostly fine for me, but just responsiveness.
And don't start me on Cortana, which runs better on my old Lumia phone than on a gaming console.
I would assume it's because of what they prioritized in the beginning with the console. Idk for sure, though.

That only allows you to adjust the mix and the volume of your headset. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the level that your mic transmits at, which is frustrating. They say I am loud and my friend can barely be heard.

Are you guys using non official mics?

I couldn't get my xbox one to change my tv channels. I thought this was a feature. Maybe this is my fault, but I thought it shouldn't be that hard.

How is your TV connected? Are you using a cable box? If so, in order to change the channel, you need to tell the box to change the channel, which is via IR. You can use the cable box remote like you would normally do, or the Xbox can do it by emitting a compatible IR signal, essentially functioning as the remote. In order to do this, the Xbox needs to have a Kinect which sends the IR signal or you need to connect an IR blaster cable to the back port, and it needs to point to your box. That is what I do. I got a long IR cable and ran it behind my TV to the front of my cable box so that the Xbox can send the remote control commands to the cable box.

Snapping is terrible and I'm glad it's slowly being left by the wayside. The new menu for accessing friends and party in-game is much better, even if it hangs sometimes. I've had some issues with voice chat, but those were more due to my own internet connection and the game I was playing (Destiny had a lot of issues in that regard).

MCC still has some issues, yes, but can't say I've ever experienced a problem with Halo 5.

Some of the stuff you're experiencing sounds par the course, but there may be more underlying issues there. Your network connection may have something to do with it.

The Halo 5 graphics comment sounds like your playing on some of the Big Team Battle maps, which use forge asset. That's just how they are built.

The OS takes getting used to, and sometimes the logic and lag for no reason can be maddening. But the snapping problems and crashing shouldn't be happening.

The rest of the problems, sound like you got the worst Xbox Ones ever made. Loud Xbox one? Even the worst I heard is pretty quiet. The rest sound like significant network problems.

Edit: reading that others think the suspend/resume isn't very good. That's crazy talk. The Suspend/Resume on the X1 is much better than on the PS4. It's faster and more reliable.

I don't think it's any secret that the Xbox One UI/UX is hot garbage.

It's inferior to the PS4 in almost every single way, which is unacceptable coming from MS.

The mobile-like backwards navigation, the way the store works (you browse the Store and then clicking on anything only then launches the Store app??), the way every. single. page has latency on actions. It's truly awful.

I love a lot of the Xbox One exclusive games but the OS is shockingly awful. It literally makes me angry to use, and I don't understand why they haven't fixed it.

When the most basic operation of your device is frustrating you're going to have bad word of mouth. SUCH AS THIS VERY POST RIGHT HERE MICROSOFT. FIX YOUR SHIT!

Another one of these "let us SHIT on the Xbox One UI" thread.

If we don't constantly shit on it they'll never fix it. Since when did having a shitty, latency-filled OS become the norm for MS?

@OP: Stop trying to use Snap. The less people use it the faster they'll remove it as an OS paradigm and we'll all be better off.

I completely forgot about Cortanta!! What a joke. I couldn't get anything to work. It just wanted to search for everything I said.

Where is some tests in comparisons with PS4 4.0 firmware to proof that?

I don't have an S but some of the reasons listed in the OP are why I sold my xbone. Not a very pleasant user experience. Really surprising how MS botched the UI and QOL on this. They keep iterating on it quite frequently too, but they never seem to nail it.

Also, I hope you never get the unresolvable disconnecting wireless controller issue. That made games unplayable for me. (Unless it has been fixed since I sold mine?) there's a big thread on it on gaf.

idk afterall everything is done installing
try doing a hard reset?

for audio adjustments when you tab left (icon menu friends, party etc...) scroll down to setting cog icon and mic audio stuff is there. headset needs to be plugged in.
not way to fix input mic though, he has to talk louded or move mic closer/farther

Not since the Last anniversary update. Suspend/Resume has changed. Maybe they (MS) did it for stability reasons, but the suspended game gets shut down a lot more frequently. Similar to BC titles. I remember they used to be suspended, but now are always shut down.

I mean I could say the same stuff but ramble on a bit if that would make you feel better. I just got flashbacks of school just now.

Also make sure you're closing apps and programs when you're done. It sounds like you are trying to multi-task a bunch. If your done with something hit the start button and select quit.

I'm starting to belive the UI issues are network related.

I have pretty fast Internet and I've never really had UI problems to the extent some describe them.

Also if it helps, disabling instant on and using rhe power save mode always makes my Home menu react really fast. Not sure if this is even true but disabling instant on saw results for me instantly

- UI laggy is normal... you get used but it is really jump in the eyes when you come from one almost instantaneous UI... after you get used it will works fine.

- Disc install is a painful and you need to downloads the xxGB patches before play.

- MCC is one of the worst releases this gen in technical terms (the games itself are great)... full of bugs that will never be fixed.

- Party Chat issues are there since day one too but I guess it is more related to internet issues too.

That would be my guess too. It's still infuriating though, because they've managed to ruin a responsive OS into a frustrating thing. I remember during the reveal conference Yusuf Mehdi showing the go home gesture and saying "see how fast that was ?". Faked or not, that is how fast it took to go home when the console launched. Now you press the guide button and are left wondering for a few seconds if it registered.
I'm not even sure what the current version is good at.

I don't have live and I am not a MP guy, but all the offline issues you mentioned are there.
The ui is just bad. I used it for FH3 demo few days back and it reminded me again how bad the ui is. Browsing the store and downloading demo itself was infuriating.
I really hope they have some kinda trade in offer for Scorpio so that I can get rid of this. Scorpio with all its power will definitely run this lagfest better.

OP, did you start a new account because the one you assigned to NGAF isn't showing H5 on your list which it should?

For those wondering, I doubt it's network issues. I have the fastest internet my service provider offers in my city. I've never had network issues on 360, ps4, or PC. I have gigabit ethernet routed all over my house.

That's old. My gamertag is xRaymo.

The party chat issues are all to familiar to me and one of the reasons I decided to get rid of my Xbox One, the OS and the UI for the system is just god awful I am baffled at how well done the 360 OS and UI were done would lead them to whatever the hell they've designed this system, its trash.

There is more to networks then speed.

Whats your NAT?

Didn't IGN and others literally just confirmed that Xbox one S OS is actually faster than PS4?

Ryan McCaffrey's own benchmarks.
/s

I find the XB1S UI to be pretty sluggish as well, sounds like it's at least partially a result of everything running as an app. It's a shame, hopefully Scorpio brutes forces some speed into the system interface.

Only thing I can comment on is the UI. My cousin has a regular XBO.

Yes I dont like it. After using it for awhile I still make common mistakes coming from a PS4. The PS4 UI is minimalistic almost to a fault. But it gets the job done.

I've seen network issues for months. I just assumed it was a bad console.

Wow this sounds horrible. How is it that quite a few people here are confirming these things but people tend to shit on the ps4 os. If half the stuff you mentioned happened to be on my ps4 I would have trashed that thing already.

Another one of these "let us SHIT on the Xbox One UI" thread.

Maybe you could actually contribute to the discussion meaningfully instead of rushing in with your sword and shield ready ?

OT: The Xbox One ui is one of the main reasons I dumped the system. Both the original and new os/ui were slow and unintuitive in my experience. Made the console painful to use for me personally.

Honestly, the first mistake you made was hoping Xbox One S will fix all the underlining issues with Halo: MCC (and 5). Please read GAF impressions on how shitty that game is. There's a whole OT dedicated to the letdown.

Can anyone tell me if these issues are unique to the S model? I was thinking about picking one up, but I'll skip it if so. I've never had any particular issue with the OS of the older XB1, just minor inconveniences.
