Very disappointed so far with the Xbox One S. What's going on here?

The OP has only ever framed it as his own problems, not something that millions face. You're running in circles here trying to refute all the negative that anyone is saying. You should hope that Microsoft actually listens to all of the multi console owners and takes a look at what it could do better on the OS front.

The Xbox One OS is sure a hell of a lot prettier than the PS4's(even with themes, the tiles/transparency with a nice wallpaper looks much better) but I can't figure out why everything is laid out like it is. It makes no sense. At least Games and Apps is visible from the main screen now instead of having to scroll down. It should occupy a much bigger spot instead of having those ads placed right under it imo. I don't even want to get started on accessing the store.

For some reason nothing ever downloads in instant on mode or whatever for me also. Super annoying.

WLAN? I read that a lot of people that have their Xbox connected wireless are experiencing problems like this.

It's quite disingenuous to assume that everyone who has issues with the OS is spewing hyperbole. It's like when people were saying there's no problem with the PS4 sticks or fan noise because they don't have it personally. Also, the issues are probably more noticeable for those who use multiple consoles regularly.

WLAN? I read that a lot of people that have their Xbox connected wireless are experiencing problems like this.

Oh that could be it. I am wired usually, but I use the same for my XB1 and PS3 so sometimes I may have it unplugged. That's not working as intended though is it? Seems silly if so. I'll just have to figure out how to keep them both wired 100%. Also ironically I get faster speeds on 5GHz(41Mbps with PC at 65Mbps and PS4 at 59 Mbps on my connection) than wired(26 Mbps).

I'm glad this topic is getting some traction, because I too have been incredibly disappointed with the sluggish behavior of Xbox one. I thought the slim would've fixed it a bit but it looks like it's the same. I've had the Xbox one for over a year now and it's always been slow to turn on, have experienced a laggy ui , various crashed games, not to mention long periods to wait for games to load, and many other things others have mentioned. It's incredibly frustrating.

I wish I saw a thread like this before I purchased. Like I said in my original post, the UX has been my greatest disappointment. I had always assumed it was better on Xbox One and a few others in here did also. There's plenty way too many responses in this thread that agree with what I'm seeing on the UX side. If I can inform anyone who wasn't aware of those issues, that's fine with me... I was completely ignorant until I purchased. US.

The ui/os was one of the reasons I gave up on the Xbox One. Just seemed to get in the way of using the system for me.

When I pressed a button on the controller, the Xbox never reacted immediately.
If the Xbox One runs on Windows then surely pressing a button is similar to a mouseclick but it's not, there's a definite lag and that's why I got rid of it, it shouldn't be there. Hopefully Scorpio won't have it.

It may have already been mentioned, but try putting your XB1 in your network's DMZ. If that's not possible, try port forwarding to improve your NAT type.

I sold my Xbox One S last week because of the OS, my PS4 is far more pleasurable to use.
The Xbone OS is just slow to react when I do anything. It's a real shame too as I love the games.

I'm not a fan of the Xbox One OS. They made quite a few bad choices, and it hasn't been a great experience for me.

That being said ... I don't spend much time in it. I can launch HBO GO, or any game without difficulty. I would never sell my Xbox One because of interactions with the UI. It certainly isn't a deal-breaker for me as much as it is for you.

My experience with the console has been pretty smooth. The dashboard is indeed a bit slow, but I never had huge problems.

I remember one problem however : Ori would freeze when launching. I had to go back to the dashboard for it to load. Strange bug.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you're having. I have 3 Xbox one's 2 day one unit and a S 2TB. I don't have any of these issues. All my systems are even in the preview program.

I do have external raid 0 setups on all my systems so the only thing on my internal is the OS.

When and if I ever do have an issue it's never been anything a full reboot has not fixed. All my systems are on a full gigabit network with 105Mbps internet so in general my systems are very fast in everything I do same as my PS4.

I even run other stuff while I'm gaming background music as well as the Xbox USB tv tuner.

I think I need to invest in a good external if it really makes a difference. Not to mention that I went with the 500GB model because I'll never pay for a bigger internal HDD with storage expansion options.

I just need to sell my XBox One. I can't believe I have been living with such a POS for so long.

With all the people saying.. "I was going to buy and now I'm not because of this thread" style of stuff... this feels like some sort of stealth thread.

Stuff like that. This seems like an individual thing going on. Not something millions face. My snapping is fine. Do it all the time with Twitch. Was also snapping the hell out of my fantasy football NFL app while watching the games yesterday. Odd thread. Lot of fuddy type talk and now lot's saying they were thinking of buying an Xbox, but not now because of a few people posting in this thread. Lol. Have just as many if not more people saying their snapping and UI works just fine.

This conspiracy defense force for everything lately is getting old. The OP hasn't even stated that it was a worldwide issue, but even still, quite a number of people have experienced the issue with a sluggish UI and are stating so, I've had it on multiple old Xbox ones and on my S. It's cool that your snapping is fine, but that doesn't mean shit for those who are experiencing issue. I've seen major Nelson states on the X1 Reddit that he is consistently submitting feedback about UI sluggishness. This isn't some shit folks made up. If it doesn't affect you, then great, but it's not some issue that a small number of users are facing.

It's something that needs to be brought up and you or anyone else's lack of issues doesn't help anyone having them.

The clustered dashboard is a major complaint since metro first "graced" the 360, I think MS knows at this point. If I can turn off the feed thing (as in it doesn't use try to connect the internet unless I tell it to), I think the speed would improve, the OS seems to do a lot of downloading/uploading in the background for things people don't usually need.

Not sure if it was already adressed or not in the last 3-4 pages. I only read through bits in the first 3... but i have a theory on the weird sound the console was making while installing a game.

A few months back, when Microsoft added Halo Reach to the backwards compatibility games I figured I should fire up the game again to see how it held up, especially when it's the only one without a remaster.

Thing is, I only have 1 game on disc for the Xbox One, and never used the optical drive except for that game (Killer Instinct on disc, from a controller bundle). So used to any other console in existance, I just rested the empty disc box on the side of the console, where you can see from an angle a big black circle.

A few minutes into the instalation the console started sounding like jet engines ready to take off. I went to the back of the TV and analised the source of the sound. Seemed to come from under the game case.

Not 3 seconds after I cleared the vent, the console was back to whisper quiet.

Considering it's an Xbox One bundle, i think that the Halo games came as digital downloads, so no cases there, but also considering you all had new consoles, he might have rested some cardboard box or something on the vents. I also don't know how Xbox One S would manifest in a situation like the one I experienced.

Does it still require you to log into xbox live to use the web browser? I have no idea how they thought that was a good idea when many access points require a browser log-in.

How that platform makes any money is beyond me. That store runs at like 5 frames a second and besides having to download and install it, you have to wait like 1.5 minutes for it to load after a boot up.

It's the most asinine stupid thing I've ever seen. The original PS store on ps3 wasn't great but at least I could buy stuff without feeling like I am encased in amber.

Christ, it was painful to use that lol.

Kinda like the new PSN store on PS3, say what you will about the old store, but it was fast and smooth.

I find these threads very edifying. I see someone quote a poster like the one you did, and I think, "That's nuts. How did I miss someone saying something so ridiculous?" And then I look back at the original poster's statement and realize I didn't see it because the poster is already on my block list. Nice to see those decisions being affirmed.

OS is garbage. It slow and is beyond terrible. Unfortunately don't expect any miracles till Scorpio. By the way...the OS on XboxOneS is a bit snappier. ..compared to XboxOne.

I had issues with MCC but no freezes on Halo5 after it fully installs. Sounds like your hard drive in the unit may be the problem.

As for downloads failing and stopping... that happens to me multiple times per week. Just last night while downloading sunset overdrive and Ori ... I came back and both had stopped and failed. I am on Wired 25/10 Mbps.

Haha. I hate to call anyone out, but it's gotten a bit silly between stuff like that and folks checking the guy's gamer tag to see if he's played halo before. Gonna need to start taking pics of our consoles and ourselves before posting any complaints I guess.

The Xbox experience in general feels f**cked to me, as someone who also games on PC and PS4. My controller loses connection constantly, all of the headset issues the OP listed I've experienced, the party (group?) system is weird and we constantly have to remake our party...

I basically still have my XB1 because I want to play through the Halo 5 SP campaign again at some point, but otherwise I avoid using it and am ready to sell it.

Sounds like it. I'm thinking of returning it, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle, maybe in a couple of months. Could it become worse over time?

Also quick question, what is the best way to get the games with gold? On the website I needs to purchase the game seperately and it always takes me to microsoft store page. To purchase another one, I would then need to go back to the live gold page and click another game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no purchase button? Instead only one option to download. And I don't want to download the games now.

Edit: By returning, I mean sending it in for service.
I think you get 1 year warranty from Microsoft so might want to check when did you bough it .https://youtu.be/HP73edpQwgc?t=2m15s This is how coil whine sounds, if it doesn't sound like it, it might just be the hard drive or one of the fans.

If it is an xbox one game it take you to the microsoft store but if it is a xbox 360 game it take you to the old xbox 360 marketplace store(this change was made a few months ago)
just do this next time : go to xbox site <xbox live< games with gold< scroll down and right click on the green button (download from the xbox store) and select open link on a new tab so you dont have to go back to the xbox site.( you games will show in the ready to install section on your xbox)

sometimes the games take a day after they go up to show as free and xbox 360 games needs a credit card or a paypal account attached to your account to get them.( you can use a prepaid visa card or a paypal accout with 0 dollars) Also you can't buy xbox 360 games with Microsoft gift cards unless you do it from a xbox 360 console ( a lot of people don't know this )

Funny enough, Major Nelson hasn't actually given a statement about people complaining about the sluggishness of the UI. I swear that a thread complaining about the UI pops up every week on the subreddit and it always gets tons of replies with people experiencing and complaining about the same thing. However Major Nelson never shows up saying his usual PR fluff like he does in tons of other threads giving feedback.. He has no problem replying to other threads about other problems so I doubt the UI team cares that the UI runs like crap and are too busy adding features that the 360 had so they can brag about how they're listening.

You guys sound incredibly unlucky.

Outside the UI not being the snappiest thing out there, the rest of that stuff is news to me and I've owned 3 different Xbox One consoles.

I can say that performance is always being looked at for improvement. I give this feedback on a regular basis.

Smartphones apps do that and they are pretty fast... or even others desktop apps that rely 100% on internet... if that is the case MS needs to decrease the packages transmitted and/or create a better server infrastructure.

I guess the main issues are related to priority between the 3 OSs.

Thank you for your helpful post.

It doesn't make whirring high pitched noise in the video. My first guess was the HDD, but why is it still spinning while in sleep mode?while not downloading anything and the auto update is off.

I bought it a week ago, the offer was too good to pass up. I'm thinking of just sticking with it until christmas and see how it is. If it becomes worse then I'll send it for repair. I can't hear it during gaming anyway, only the quick boot is off the table.

The UI really is a disaster. It boggles my mind actually just how convoluted and unresponsive it is at times. And I am also on a One S.

No wonder I missed it, it was buried in that thread. It doesn't help that his response was such a PR non-answer that entirely dodged peoples legitimate complaints. He might as well have said nothing at all.

Not disagreeing with you at all. I'm just saying what I've seen for a long time. The sluggishness (along with the clutter) of the Xbox UI is an ongoing and seemingly never resolved issue. Be it on the support forums or other internet forums

On my launch One, I have experienced some slow response, yes. Pretty much always been there, no matter the UI version.

However, the worst thing I've experienced are installs crapping out. You should NOT have to manually take your console offline to install a new game!

I recently bought Forza 6. It took me 3 Days to get it installed. Right off the bat, it would just stop at 6%. Deleting, retrying, going offline, hard reboot, cache clearing, nothing worked. I left it sitting a day, and was about to return it when I tried one more time... And it worked.
The install issue sounds awful. It's been almost a year since I last used a Xbox One, but I was hoping Microsoft improved the installing process.

My apologies, but yeah, there is a definite issue with clutter or their kitchen sink approach to the UI. Could deal with it if day to day usage wasn't so sluggish. The store is a mess to navigate currently, I'm always going back a page too many because I'm not sure if it even took my key press.

Yeah that is pretty much my issue with the xbox store as well. Too much input delay.

I wouldn't use my xbox if it was as bad as some people experience. It's not, happily.

Its not that bad, but coming from xbox 360 and even a ps4, its hard to put those little annoyances aside when you were used to so much better, especially with xbox 360.

All they needed to do was that 360 dashboard, but faster. Thats literally all we needed.

The store on the windows 10 is much, much faster despite of having a few questionable design layouts, but it's basically the same app on the Xbox but without the godawful lags, the only thing I have to complain is that it doesn't have a totals page when purchasing, it just deducts the amount after tax without showing you actual amount.

It doesn't excuse the poor store on the console, but at least there is a much better alternative.

There's some major hyperbole going on in here.

Edit* If you have a game or app that is acting up from suspend, it's a simple fix. From the home screen hit "start" on it, select "exit/close". Takes half a second and allows it to relaunch.
There is no hyperbole if the problems are not exaggerated whatsoever.

Even You admit to having to back out and close apps regularly, which means the suspend feature is broken.

Anyone with Xbone experience knows you have to hard reset/unplug the power from the back regularly to keep it running right.

The issues with audio disconnect in halo are a regular issue you can see on the forums. There's nothing wrong with his internet.

MCC is MCC.

Snap is fcked at the moment.

Where's the hyperbole?

There's no sense in defending a slow and broken UI.

I haven't sold mine because I like the insurance, but that interface is trash. I would probably use the console slightly more if the whole experience didn't feel so amateurish.

Yeah it's not great, I had problems today with the store bugging out and returning to home constantly but it doesn't get in the way of playing games. I never snap or use instant on though.

Played through all four games without any problems bar a couple of achievements not popping. MP was more hit and miss at launch but had no problems last time i booted up, though that was a few months ago.
