2016 NFL Season OT - Week Two - The Dream is Dead

Would you say the corners are good, or the pass rush just didn't give opposing QBs enough time to make the throws?
A bit of both but more on the side of the secondary. The pass rush was adequate in moving Brees from his spot at times. Others, not so much and that's where the back end of the defense covered up well. I know Jenkins rep coming in but he's been damn good technique wise and in NOT gambling for the sake of doing so. He said yesterday after the game that he doesn't feel like he needs to gamble within the context of the scheme like he did with the Rams because the line is playing well. It's one of the things the coaching staff told him right from the get-go. "You're good but you could be elite if you stop doing x" pretty much.

It helps that we have ACTUAL free safeties this year. Thompson has owned that backend since coming in as a rookie in the summer (and I loved the pick when we made it in third round). The team loves him and he's played very well (outside of that Snead TD which he even says was a lack of recognition and not being in the right defense). Berhe is isn't too shabby either.

Finally, the 2016 version of Landon Collins laughs at the 2015 iteration. I *hated* the pick by Reese. Moreso when they tried to make him a free safety in coverage. This kid is a fucking missile. Let him roam around the line of scrimmage and he can make hay. That's exactly what we're seeing. He's taking snaps at linebacker and safety and he's bringing the wood. Oh and he hasn't been terrible in coverage to boot. I'm happy to eat crow if Collins becomes our version of Kam Chancellor.

I'm getting the feeling that the NFC East division winner carousel is going to come through again and the Giants are going to win it. It's their turn anyway.

Pass rush has been alright. It is hard to gauge when Brees is getting rid of it so fast. Armstead did a good job against OV but how much is that to OV's wrist wrapped up? I didn't think JPP was overly impressive against Free in Dallas. DT's have been awesome for both aspects.

But I do think the corners (and notably Collins) have been stellar.

e: Future, nice post.

So what's the consensus for Week 3? Back to Community?

I'm not seeing an influx of new posters. I think we might as well go back to the fort, sadly.

I'm proud of all you insular jerks, now back to community where Trejo can bless us with his beautiful pics.

The community is so insular and rude to newcomers, filled with inside jokes and shit posts, that I doubt anybody would stick around even if it were in normal OT for the whole season.

A tangential benefit of it being in OT is that there seems to be more posts that would otherwise be new threads that are being made in here... So you end up having fewer multiple threads/discussions about the same topic (one with it's own thread, and one here).

You have to look into the future as well, though. Big contracts affect what you're willing to dish out to guys like Miller and there is no doubt in my mind it was a consideration. Maybe not for this season but for the seasons to come at the least.

Run blocking has been bad but the RBs are trash. Foster is a shell, Ajayi has no lateral agility, and the rest are just guys. Maybe Drake will show something if we're lucky but otherwise it's a heap of mediocrity.

I just don't think they valued RBs at all, they thought Ajayi would improve from last year and that would be enough, that's why they took a chance with Foster as a veteran back up and with those injuries (Who is day to day btw so that's good news). I really think Drake will overtake Ajayi and eventually Foster as the season goes on but I still don't expect any kind of run game unless pouncey comes back and they switch bushrod out with Turner who is much better a run blocking than Bushrod (but worse in pass blocking). This roster as a whole just isn't very good.

Kenny Legan @KennyLegan
Browns will have used 5 different starting QBs in their last 5 GAMES:

Manziel
Davis
RG3
McCown
Kessler

That's insane.

I get the inside jokes stuff but I think we've been welcoming to new guys, there was a guy just this week asking for tips and stuff on learning the game and everyone pitched in ideas and breakdowns.

The secondary is so deep now compared to previous iterations.

IIRC Brees was perfect against Trevin Wade and Jayron Hosley last year, while they had some success against Apple it was night and day.

According to Pro Football Focus, Brees had a perfect passer rating when corners Jayron Hosley and Trevin Wade were in coverage. They were targeted 11 times, allowing 11 receptions for 216 yards and four touchdowns

I disagree about the insularity, and I don't know about being rude to newcomers. I haven't seen every post in these threads, but I've seen newcomers being welcomed. I could have missed some rudeness however.

As for the inside jokes and shit posts, that's kinda the point? I mean, it's a football community, there's going to be shit posts everywhere, that's natural to all sports. And it's also a community, generally the same smallish group of people talking about their chosen topic. It's natural for inside jokes to develop in such a scenario, and I don't think it's a big problem. Aside from the rudeness, that's what I'd expect in a community thread, and like I said, I haven't noticed any rudeness.

Friends, I applied for a training/intake thing at both Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley and got accepted into both.

Yeah I always thought that the insular thing was just a joke. Hell we even tolerate pats fans and bandwagoners like gata.

Congrats friend! one step closer to you and bae joining us on the best coast!

Exactly, if we had it our way all pat fans would be banned.

Plus Gata has been quiet. Tamed, if you will.

A little too quiet....someones about to get got...

Congrats Dutch!

Ertz is out tonight confirmed?

Yeah him and McKelvin. Mills is starting in McKelvin's place, and we'll get to see Trey Burton in action. I want Ertz to get healthy again soon though because I want the 3TE sets to start happening. I could see him sitting for the Steelers too though, that would give him an extra week with the bye.

They got Apple on a couple of inside routes to the middle of the field which were tough to cover but Brees tested him with the deep ball a few times and got nothing. He's a rookie so I expect him to struggle a bit but considering the number of snaps he played (he played 59 of the 62 snaps in the game while DRC played 39), he's doing pretty damn well.

Regarding Seahawks' violation:

This #Seahawks violation occurred during a helmets-off practice that featured a collision between two players going for the ball.

Bob Condotta

A receiver and a defensive back hit heads on the drill. NFL reviewed play and determined it was excessive.
