2016 NFL Season OT - Week Two - The Dream is Dead

I think the problem with the hits Wentz took is that they are the same kind as the ones that RG3 takes.

Coaches need to be drilling it into his head that he should get out of bounds or slide instead of challenging defenders.

Welcome to the Schlub era of Quarterbacking.

Some videos from OL watchdog on Twitter focusing on Erek Flowers and some improvements from last year:

There's still footwork problems to work through but its encouraging to see the coaching having an effect.

Some other statistics from the Saints game:

Well folks, the joke’s on the outside world because that’s precisely what the Giants did. According to Pro Football Focus select highlights, The Giants actually blitzed on more than a third of the pass plays, a 35.4% blitz percentage. That’s rather high considering that last year, the NFL average on blitzes was 29.9%.

The other thing the Giants did more of, at least to the naked eye, was get their hands up to crowd the passing lanes.

The final numbers? Two sacks, both by defensive backs (more on that in just a moment), six quarterback hits, five tackles or a loss and seven pass breakups.

On the Collins sack of Brees, Spags had DRC with his hand in the ground.

Pre-snap, the Giants have both Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Collins down at the line in a slot-like position. On the play, Rodgers-Cromartie has his hand in the dirt while Collins is standing up.

So what do the Saints figure here? Best guess is that Rodgers-Cromartie is going to come with the blitz and Collins is going to drop into coverage.

The Saints pick up Rodgers-Cromartie’s blitz. Collins hesitates ever so slightly, making the Saints think that he’s waiting to see what Brees is going to do before dropping back.

Meanwhile the tight end starts into his route, not even bothering to chip Collins, who now has a free outside lane to charge at Brees’ blindside, and drops him for the sack.

Some more film review. Timing pass from Eli off of play action to OBJ. Check out the cushion the DB is giving Odell (I mentioned it during the game). He had a 6-10 yard cushion most of the game. Which is why the Giants took so much of the underneath stuff to him.

I want to know what voodoo magic the giants performed to make newhouse serviceable
They haven't really played an excellent defensive line yet and frankly, he had a rough game against Cam Jordan.

Not a Florio fan at all but sometimes he makes me chuckle:

25. Colts (0-2; No. 24): “Made Defending Super Bowl Champions Sweat It Out” will be hanging from the rafters this weekend.

28. Jaguars (0-2; No. 18): The bandwagon has emptied faster than the bladder of a nine-year old who drank a two-liter bottle of Sprite just before sleeping 12 hours.

31. Bills (0-2; No. 29): Rex Ryan wasn’t the first mother–cker to get fired, after all.

32. Browns (0-2; No. 32): Does it help that the Browns would probably still be 0-2 if they’d picked Carson Wentz.

We're staying in OT right? At least until Gata starts snitching and the bans start being handed down.

Wentz didn't look bad, made a couple of really nice throws. Howie was right!

Much as I hate the man.. Ben is a tough son of a bitch and has played hurt countless times and has been used to getting hit for having a not so good line for a lot of his career.

He's also 6'4" 265 (or was before the he lost 15 lbs this offseason) and most of that 265 is in his upper half, including his big boulder of a head. Most of his injuries have been in his legs: knee, ankle, foot, etc. He's got some spindly ass legs.

Wentz not going OOB and taking that spinning leg tackle last night is definitely one of those "what the fuck are you doing" coachable moments.

So far Howie prevails. Still want to see him against some better defenses. The drops are killer. I think it was 80 yards of dropped passes, and at least 1 TD.

At least he isn't trying to hurdle people like he did in the preseason.

Right about what? Fisher and Snead were the ones with a choice Howie just took who ever was left.

First of all, everyone knew the Rams were taking Goff so he traded up for Wentz specifically rather than sitting there with his fingers crossed not knowing who was going to be available.

Secondly, he was right to cash in on the chance to rob Minnesota blind for Bradford knowing he had a better QB waiting in the wings.

seems like gata has barely posted since we moved out of the shadows to OT

who is he hiding from

Bionic grounded him.

Um, that's not DRC in that top pic. That's JPP ... unless the arrow is supposed to be pointing off screen.

It's supposed to be pointing offscreen. Pat didn't take a good shot there.:) She mentioned it on her twitter. Though looking at it in motion, I think she's wrong about DRC having his hand in the ground. I think he's standing up in much the same position as Collins on the other side of the line of scrimmage.

Joe Curley ‏@vcsjoecurley

Keenum was 7 of 10 passes for 142 yards (59% of his yardage) to the his left, outside the numbers, Sunday, per @PPF.

That, of course, was away from Seattle CB Richard Sherman, who doesn't switch sides. Fisher mentioned last night they went away from him.

We will see about that.

Current line: Texans (-2.5). You'll want to keep an eye on this line because it could making some major moves this week if Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) officially gets ruled out for the game and Jacoby Brissett has to make his first career start. That being said, even if Brissett starts, don't count out the Patriots. Despite being a 9.5-point underdog in Week 1, New England was able to go into Arizona and win. Also, the Patriots haven't lost a home primetime game to an AFC team since 2008 (11-0). Oh, and one more thing: The Patriots are 28-0 straight up at home since 2009 against non-divisional AFC teams.
