Forza Horizon 3: Review Thread

Wanted to ask here instead of making a new thread just for this: Is the FH series more sim-like or arcade-like? I've been thirsting for a new arcade racer on current gen, and stuff like Blur and Midnight Club seem to be dead in the water.

What's the difference between the VIP Pass and the Car Pass? Does VIP not get you the car packs?
The VIP Pass gets you the following:
Forza Horizon 3 VIP members receive five exclusive VIP cars, including the 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV, the 2-016 Koenigsegg Regera, the 2015 Ultima Evolution Coupe 1020, the 2015 Ferrari F12tdf, and the 2015 Ford Falcon GT F 351. VIPs will receive additional benefits such as VIP wheel spins with extra rewards each time you level up, access to exclusive online events, community gifts, and more.

It's a lot more arcade like than sim.

It can be very arcade and it can be close to sim like.

You decide in the settings. I can set it so I enjoy it (sim like) and my 8 year old daughter enjoys it (tons of assists).

Race/events wise...it's an arcade like game mostly. Jumping hills, twisting terrain, elevation changes, racing through creeks, going across beaches and sand dunes, etc.

I want to pre-order the game sooooo bad, but I feel like I need to wait for a demo so I know how the PC-version is. Will go for standard.

Not sure how Forza 6 Apex differs, but it ran super well for me.

Arcade with sim roots. It doesn't attempt to accurately simulate reality, but it uses a backbone that does (from Forza Motorsport) to make a more accessible, fun, and somewhat grounded feel to the cars.

Based off of what I've seen from T10, it seems that FH3 will run better (Apex was basically a playground for them to get feedback and work on stuff). I would say, just wait...you aren't going to miss out on anything if you wait until the end of next week.

Couple of days. And the Ultimate version releases. I am sure we get some good impressions then.

Managed to get this pre ordered for £32 physical so well chuffed with that, been xboxless for just over 2 weeks so haven't even hit the demo yet, Thursday that will change when the 's' turns up, or do I just wait and drink in all the newness on launch day!!?

It's more arcade than sim... but reasonably close to a 50/50 scenario compared to other stuff like Need for Speed. If you've played Project Gotham Racing or Driveclub, I'd but it in the same bracket as those.

I'm looking for a racer and this game caught my interest. Hopefully the PC version is worth it, I'll wait and see. The game looks really good.

Why would he do that? Will the PC version bring down his score for the console version? Is he playing both versions and then going to write his thoughts on both combined for a score? That seems odd.

He just wants to see both. My guess to see how is the PC release and if there any major problems he should mention.

He said it looked really good on Xbox One.

Wait a second, the only way to get the lambo on the box art is by getting the VIP pass?

Just to confirm: No way to buy a physical version of the game on Xbox One and get a digital copy on PC for free, correct?

Shame. But it's too good of a deal to pass up. Will probably be just the second console game I've ever purchased digitally (the other is Halo 5).

Ahh, right on. Hopefully for the PC folk the game is working fine. If not.. Buy and Xbox! :)

What's going on with the pop-ins and level-of-detail changes in some of these gameplay videos?

For example, note the trees / foliage / rockface (6m22s - 6m54s).

This is from the Xbox One version, I've seen the same effect on several FH3 Xbox One gameplay videos. Unfortunately, there's almost no PC footage to compare it to currently. The one that I found is taking place in a different part of the map, with less trees, so pop-ins / harsh LoD changes appear to be less pronounced there anyway. Still, note the rockface on the left hand side during the right turn around the 2m08s mark.

Can someone point me in the direction of some good tutorials on how to brake/corner. Or give me tips, trying Forza one and keep sliding and spinning.

(In reference to the pop in level detail change.) Seeing as the Xbox One isn't exactly a beast of a machine, you were likely going get some graphical deficiencies, with how much detail the developers are trying to cram in, along with a solid frame-rate....60 fps this game is not..

Something has to give. I'm gobsmacked it looks and runs anywhere near what it does on what is essentially a 7770?

They've done an incredible job.

I'm having trouble parsing this post.

Edit: OH, I see your edit.

IBTimes have been exposed as a joke site, my issue with them is that they projected thier assumptions of PG without evidence, which leads me to believe they haven't played the game fully or have something against the series/company. They outright lied about PG being bored, if they were, their game wouldn't be good enough to be one of MS flagship game for 2017. I mean look at the visuals, the great sound work, custom soundtrack integration and level design, none of it is subpar, if they lacked enthusiasm, surely that wouldn't be the case? Poor form from IBtimes and honest journalism, really is unfair for devs that worked so hard and made something special.

Don't try to brake and turn at the same time. Brake in a straight line, then turn while lifting the brakes. Also, try using assists (ABS is a favorite of mine, because fuck trying to brake smoothly with a pad).

Looks like the standard will be enough. Dpn't care about car packs and XP/credit boosts.
Plus, in the future, if you want to revisit, the extra content will most likely go on sale like the FH2 stuff has in recent weeks. Both expansions plus the car pass for 75% off is an excellent deal. I'll get more than enough time out of the vanilla version of FH3. So can't wait for this. Damn!

They also gave Knack an 8. Same reviewer too.

Seems trustworthy.

FH3 2

I see a pattern here.....hmmm..ok, maybe not..we need more scores, but I'm thinking we'll see a good lean with more of them.

I'm curious, did they even get a review build? Is there a way to find out? Would be funny if they didn't even have one..I'm not clicking the link to see if they have their own videos and screenshots.
