Forza Horizon 3: Review Thread

This isn't true though because FH1 > FH2. This is fact, not opinion.

I like how structured the races are in FH1 compared to FH2. The off road races in FH2 are too messy. There is a such thing as too much freedom when it comes to a race imo. For that reason FH1 > FH2.

It looks like FH3 is more like the first game in that sense.

People going bonkers over this.

Can't wait.
It's an Xbox title that managed to get over 90 on Metacritic. Of course people are going crazy.

Hopefully Gears of War 4 will gt 90+ so it's like a repeat of 2011's Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4 both being 90+, would be kind of poetic.

Reviews should be docking points for the Ultimate Edition 3 days early access nonsense.

I don't see how that would affect anyone's enjoyment of the game in any way. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I don't think anyone made a stink about it before with Forza 6, Halo 5 (other than the legendary edition coming with a code and not a disc edit: oh, apparently that was just for preloads), and I think another game too (Gears of War Ultimate?).

lol, no.

Finding negativity in this game is seemingly becoming quite tenuous. Between this comment, and the tweet I saw where people got "suckered in to buying a game with a 45gb download".

Nothing they've marketed appeals to me as an old school Gears fan, but the preview impressions are saying all the right things. I hope the Coalition has done great work here, because I'd love to get my Gears on again.

Horizon is bringing me back to the Xbox again, and I only hope there's more to keep me coming back to it.

Looks like I made a great choice by putting a pre-order on a XB1S just for this game. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow, hopefully, so I can at least give the demo a go in the meantime.

That IBT review though...oh my.

I am still unfortunately in the unemployment issue :-(

But as soon as I get work which is hopefully soon this is my first celebration purchase.

Also congrats on the job!

Thanks man... it's been a rough year, but things are looking up! Just keep asking around, ask friends and family members etc... (not to derail the thread!)

Can't wait to hit Australia!

Dock every other game that does it as well then. I affects all of us, and seems to slowly be turning into a more common practice. They're essentially just arbitrarily pushing back the release date of the base game as bait to buy the super expensive edition. The whole concept is just lame as heck and should be called out on more often.

Way to jump to conclusions. Why would I want to find negativity in one of the games I'm most looking forward to?

Doesn't really affect anyone in the slightest, it's just a game, not a nuclear plant built across the road from your house.

I just see it like that: Pay more=get the game early; pay normal=get the game on release; pay less=get the game after release

you can get pissed off about it but it in no way reflects the quality of a game so why would a reviewer dock points for it?

Scores are great, game sounds great. I'm so thirsty for a good arcade racing experience that it's not even funny.

This will definitely be one of the first games I buy when I upgrade my PC next year. If it runs reasonably on my current computer that's skirting the edges of the minimum specs I'll pick it up much sooner. Fingers crosses!

FH1: 28 October
FH2: 30 September
FH3: 27 September (23 September ultimate)

To me it doesn't feel like they're pushing the release date back. Would I like it earlier? Sure, but I'm still getting at around the same time I got Horizon 2. It's not like the ultimate edition users are getting it a month early.

Forza Horizon is the only game series that's made me want to buy an Xbox One, luckily I have a friend who's got one so I chill on that when I go round there.

If that were me I'd just get hooked and need my own system to play whenever I want, Horizon has always been mad addictive.

Are you being serious? Why even rate games then? Why not just give every game a 10 and recommend everybody to buy them? Games get flak for micro transactions and pre-order bonuses so I don't see how early access incentives are any different. Baiting you into buying something early on for a higher price than normal is harmful to the consumer and is meant to be helpful only for the seller.

Paying more to play a game early is different from paying more to get a complete game.

Baiting you into buying something early on for a higher price than normal is harmful to the consumer and is meant to be helpful only for the seller.

But all games become available for cheaper as they become older so this is pretty much complaining just to complain. There was information about the differences between each version months ago.

Serious question, slightly off topic. What's the point of reviews if they just opinions honestly. I have an opinion, can I get paid for it as well. I always found the saying 'it's just his opinion', so stupid. Well then why is he getting paid for it, the difference between my opinion and a reviewers opinion is that a reviewer is supposed to be more educated on the little technicalities of gaming, understand why he feels the game is bad, then articulate it into a coherently written article, then argue his perspective, otherwise what's the point. Besides the Ibtimes review, even reviews that gave the game 100, are so poorly written, the reviewer clearly does not understand what makes the game great, it's just like wow I like how it feels. I could tell you that. This thing of, its just his opinion should stop and reviewers should be taken to task for their poorly written and un-backed up opinions. It's only bad if people never read the review and just said 'he gave it a 4 fuck him'.

Roger Ebert was one of the greatest film reviewers and even he made mistakes, which he, himself admitted later on, as he got older. I never agreed with all his view points, but I understood where he came from. As long as I understand where you coming from, I will understand. Don't tell me it isn't like Citzen Kane (great film), what the hell does that even mean, is it trying to be? If you want to argue this point of view 'that it's not Citzen Kane' is fine actually, back at it up though. Sorry for the long post. Just issues I'm having with game reviews in general for a long time.

Carry on.

Well, back in the day game reviewers used to be qualified journalists, and have a degree in English or whatever. Also have a very keen knowledge and interest in the games business too.

I'm sure that still applies to some today, but also it seems any 'shouty kid' on the internet qualifies as a game reviewer these days. The quality is certainly not what it once was.

Everything being internet based and largely Americanised is a big player too. Where the business model is getting paid for advertisements by way of generating clicks. Instead of the old model of putting out a quality magazine that people would buy in a shop if it was reputable. This obviously opens up the door for people typing anything as long as it brings traffic to their site.

True a review is always an opinion but reviewers basically have to be more objective about stuff and they mostly are.

Also thats why I love Metacritic.

They mix together 50 different opinions and so you really get a general "objective" score of a game.

Ok, did you consider that it's not paying for the early access, but could be viewed as you are paying for the VIP and Car Passes, and the early access is just a bonus for the uber-fans?

Games may get flak for pre-order bonuses, but I have yet to see a game get docked in a review score for them........

I mean if we are going to dock for that, then we need to dock reviews for timed exclusive, timed exclusive DLC, console exclusives, CoD4 Remaster where PS4 users get 30days early access, etc, etc.

But all games become available for cheaper as they become older so this is pretty much complaining just to complain. There was information about the differences between each version months ago.

Terrible comparison. We're just waiting a few extra days to buy the base game, not benefiting from a price drop.

Are you being serious? If someone is daft enough to pay an extra £20 or £30 to play the game 4 days early and a couple of immaterial extras, then that's their problem, it does not affect the base game in any way shape or form. It's not even in the same post code as carving up for DLC.

So for years people said they wouldn't buy digitally if the console makers didn't offer incentives to do so but now that Microsoft are doing so people are still complaining? Really? Shareplay, Play Anywhere, early access it's all great in my opinion and has actually persuaded me to go all digital with my One S.
