The in-game film "techniques" from that game are annoying. It tricks people into thinking it looks as good as it really does. Though that's not to say that it's not a good looking game without it. But still.

I still like the way it looks, but yeah you're right in saying that all of those techniques were done as a trickery. Even the annoying black bars successfully tricked people in believing that it's all for "cinematic" reasons.

Damn, those injury animations look so sweet.

Sure did. Can't wait to see character damage and how far they will take that. Hopefully it will accompany these injury based animations accordingly.

Though i'm still not feeling the extra ammo being so visible. Given how big they out. Surprised they just didn't detail a utility belt to house them.

It really does stuck out like a sore thumb and i'm positive they come with clipping issues.

Also, are some of you guys still hung up on that best looking console game thread? I mean, yeah, many people said The Order looks better than any game on any platform, but that's their opinion. As far as I know, no one said it was technically more impressive. That was a damn embarrassing thread and we don't need that behavior continuing here.

I don't think you understand just how amazing these suckers look. Add to the fact they will be characters, that we will be interacting with. In real time, in and out of cut scenes.

Furthermore the character models and player models are near the same level of detail to boot. It just goes to show the quality in which CIG is pushing. An that they aren't even done just yet.

Please, I got nothing to get "heated" about. I just prefer if we don't resort to name calling and such even if it is a joke. There's only one way it ends in every thread.

Galahad has nothing on Noah White. Unless of course you're blind. (opinion respected)

The quality on his face drops off a cliff once you. Get him out of specialized scenes and within the advent of distance calling and texture rendering.


Nathan Drake is really a moot point. Either way we are talking about third person rendering and first person rendering. That means these characters model have to stay detailed in real time for a majority of the game play i.e first person view you have to get more detail per area. An believe you me. Not every character from UC4 looks good on a consistent bases. Not even Drake himself but that's to be expected given the view point.

Really cool to hear they're working with the people that did Ryse on the heads as well, thought they did a great job there even in gameplay

The time you'll be interacting with characters will be on the capital ships. They won't be wearing helmets then.

It's not even just due to the unflattering lighting solutions at key moments in that game. If you take away the film techniques filtered in through the engine and put on screen. You would be surprised. How things really look and notice were they had to cut back on things. The models aren't as solid as you may think.


Anyways if you're talking about cutscenes? bro these are not purely cutscene character models (Noah White aka Onion Knight) . As they'll be in game character models that will be walking around ships and such. That model is going to be in SQ42 at or near that quality.

I was just joshin' you. But seriously, watch the video in its entirety. They talk about a lot of interesting details regarding how they develop the heads and where it is progressing toward. Lowest tier heads are about 10K polygons, which is as many polys as Mareus' in Ryse.

Thankfully the thread I posted has some rivetting commentary relevant to the 30 minute video about character. I wish I had some of the internet connections and sense-based perception that people on NeoGAF had. They somehow manage to watch 30 minute videos before 30 minutes, and then comment about things not in that video... but on things that will be in future videos.

How do NeoGAF posters manage this? Is my rig just too slow?

I agree it's really pointless. It's better to save those threads for major stuff with detailed information. Because all you're ever going to get in that instance are shit post and people that really don't understand much of anything in relation to Star Citizen and it's scope. Yet still want to talk.

Which is why someone here needs a little more self control...;p

On topic to the 10ftC: I hope they can show off something close to the final hair shader soon. The awesome heads are held back immensely by the mediocre hair. A visual is only as good as the weakest link.

It is a 30 minute video with the head of the game company and a technical artist discussing the ins-and outs of teh character tech with pictorial and video examples. If that is not detailed... then I do not know what is.

Considering we get 28 page threads when someone's fart sounds like the letters "NX"...

I was talking about Uncharted 4 when I said gameplay model, actually. I mean, you can dislike all the heavy post processing effects in The Order (I'm not a big fan myself), but you can't deny that they are part of what makes the game look so damn good. And yes, I'm aware that the DoF is used to hide most of the game's flaws. But I'd argue that it is a brilliant move on limited hardware.

As for Star Citizen, if the models do indeed look like that in game, my mind will be blown.
