So CNN just showed a poll for Colorado and It had 45% of people under 45 would vote for Johnson. He then followed it up with milenials being the large chunk of it.

So I have to ask...why? Why would he be appealing to a milenial? Is it the weed thing? If she loses, do they not get Trump will appoint 2 or 3 supreme court judges amd their dream of a legal weed America is over? Someone on Gaf who is a GJ supporter help me understand.

(If said person does reply please do not dog pile, them.)

Poll/conversation was on TV so I have no link.

Some Bernie supporters switched to him and Stein for whatever reason.

I only know one person my age that bigs him up. Nobody else knows he is.

I find it's the same people with the "burn it all down" mentality. They don't want to vote the big parties and know that they are throwing their vote away.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
No link to the poll or anything?

edit: I know it was on TV, but there has to be a link somewhere.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
College libertarians. It isn't that shocking.

It's because they don't know anything about him, but assume he has to be better than Trump or Clinton. He's a third option in a two horse race that people are tired of hearing about.

Just voting their conscience. Shame that conscience is not concerned for minorities, women, and the lbgt that would be fucked over by a Trump presidency

The ones the switched to Johnson or Stein are because they wanted to support someone without the shadiness or low ethics.

...in their opinion.

Only Gary Johnson will take us to the stars and also abolish taxes.

I mean, look at this millennial outreach!

I am 30, can confirm I know more people within 5 years of my age that are voting Johnson than the other candidates, myself included

The biggest failure of this election, sans Trump, is the media's utter failure in explaining to the public what Libertarianism is all about and why it's trash. People just think it's a cool third option.

Anyone that supported Bernie in any capacity that would vote for Trump or Johnson instead is a fucking idiot.

-He's not Trump
-He's not Clinton
-Most of the millennials voting for him want to shake up the political process and view voting for Johnson as the best opportunity to do so
-Honestly doubt that most of them are aware of his policies in regard to for profit prisons and the abolishment of department of education etc.
-Maybe weed but that seems far too simplistic

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
If they really gave a shit about this country they'd be throwing their support behind the real third party candidate, Vermin Supreme!

Now that man can wear a boot! I'm still hoping Obama nominates him for the Supreme Court.

Not surprised Libertarianism seems really popular in my generation. It seems like the go to party for millennial right wingers who are put off by the republican party. Which sucks because it's one awful party being replace by another awful party.

It's just as much the party of millennial left wingers put off by democrats.

Legal weed, anti-war isolationism, etc.

I am not a Millennial and I am far from a typical Johnson supporter*, but I would say the "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" generalization of Libertarians is appealing to the group of Millennials who would have been Republicans back in the Alex P. Keaton days.

(* Not that anyone cares, but I'm supporting him for the reason many used to explain Sanders' support, to move the Overton Window**.)

They don't want to vote the big parties and know that they are throwing their vote away.
But... they aren't.

I'm going in for GJ myself, and I was a Bernie supporter. I was a lifelong democrat too; this election & seeing how the DNC handled Sanders & all the other nonsense that occurred just discouraged me from the party for the time being.

I wouldn't put much credibility into that number on CNN. Notice how they made the break at 45, it's because it gave them the numbers that they wanted to push their narrative. Trump leads 45+ by a little bit and Hillary leads <45 by a little bit. In no other poll have I seen CNN give a shit about the break at 45. It's all been 18-35, 35-65, and 65+.

She has issues with Millennials and excitement among them but those numbers specifically just wanted to push a narrative.

I mean, is Gary Johnson someone you really want in the President seat or is it more of a protest vote?

Or they actually support Libertarian policies?

I guess if it isn't what you believe in, it's "trash"?

I, for one, am shocked that lots of young white people in the voting blocs that had previously gotten behind Bernie would prefer to pick a libertarian over a woman in an election where the only viable candidates are a woman and a racist.

It's almost like minorities that didn't jump on the Bernie train might have suspected that young white people never really placed that much priority on women's and minorities' interests, just ideological purity.

It was originally a protest vote, but I have come to find myself agreeing enough with his platform that, out of the 3 candidates, he is the one I find myself liking/agreeing with the most, so he has my support.

I'll most likely do some local pro bono support for him too.

I'm a minority & from a low-income community and background and I was a staunch Bernie supporter who has decided to switch over to GJ. You really shouldn't generalize who decides to vote for whom based purely on your preconceived notions.

I'll probably vote for Johnson and would have voted for Bernie. Am I a fucking idiot?

Not that it matters since Trump has a projected 86% chance of winning my state's electoral votes, and the election will probably be called by the time I cast my vote.

well in an election where the two parties have both put out historically unfavorable candidates you've gotta figure that at least one 3rd party would get a bump, stein and the green party are batshit insane, so there's gary johnson.

Except it is Trash.

Even more hilarious, Gary is a "moderate" in the eyes of many libertarians.

They live in a fantasy Ayn Rand novel.

These people are the same ones that backed Bernie, the exact polar opposite of Johnson besides legal weed.

Oh, and there is that too.

So you go for a guy that doesn't like regulation, doesn't think wall street needs regulation, doesn't take climate change seriously, doesn't believe in single payer?

He's likely farther from bernie than trump

People are greatly overestimating that younger people will automatically vote Hil/Democrat for some reason. Libertarian thinking is on the rise around me.

That's why everyone needs to vote, because it's not over until it's over.

Like those hardcore college communists, we also have those hardcore college libertarians. Both are equally ridiculous and neither ideology can exist outside of the bubble of youth.

Could you guys explain this? Aside from foreign policy and their stances on guns Johnson and Sanders are almost on complete opposite of the spectrum. So I'm having a hard time finding out how both can appeal to the same person. Outside of some "I want to shack up the system" crap.

You're probably not an idiot.

Johnson's economic policies are the polar opposites of Sanders'. People just get confused (and combative) when former Sanders supporters decide to vote for him because of those differences.

Marijuana and wars.

By the way, for all the people fearmongering about a Trump presidency, do you realize those of us living in blue states and voting for Johnson/Weld are no threat to the election of Hillary Clinton? I don't want Trump or Clinton to win but I live in a blue state, I don't need to worry about Trump winning and can vote my conscience.

Even in swing states polls often show Johnson/Weld pull equally from the pool of Trump and Clinton voters.

Considering Johnson is a far stretch from believing in what Sander's believe in, I would say you are just throwing up your arms in protest.

I'm a minority from a low-income background - me & mine are fucked regardless of who wins the office.

Except one party will drastically fight for your rights more than the other two.

This election is no time to play around with anything resembling a "protest" vote. If you supported Sanders, he's fully backed Clinton as the candidate who most closely aligns with his views. A vote for anyone other than Clinton is a message that you didn't really understand what Bernie represents. The NYT does as good a job as anyone laying out the clear case for Clinton.

Please don't fuck around this election, too many people are depending on us to get this right.
