Regarding 3DS releases, River City: Tokyo Rumble went live on Amazon earlier today as a limited release. (Sold directly by Natsume)

They just sold out a short while ago but it seems Play-Asia stocks them as well. Looks like VG+ had it at some point as well.

Apparently, Wild Guns will be sold this same way. I don't want to miss that one so I'll be camping Natsume's Amazon page for a bit. :)

Videogamesplus still has the standard edition of River City: Tokyo Rumble in stock and you can already pre-order Wild Guns there.

edit: wild guns, river city

I wonder why Natsume suddenly shifted to extreme limited prints? They never really even announced that they were going in that direction, either. I understand they are super small, lost the real Harvest Moon license, and mostly do eShop stuff now, but I still feel like this is a sudden thing that no one really knew about :/ I still even follow them on Facebook, and the only way they notified anyone, was through someone asking a question about River City, and them answering by linking a post on their forum. That's it :/

Yeah, this is disappointing. I'm considering preordering through PA now as an Amazon preorder option is unlikely. Shit, I was hoping I could go through the GameStop that's within walking distance of my place like I did with Leynos.

I wouldn't call the Natsume games extremely limited and don't really see the problem with them. There are open pre-orders at multiple places, anyone can get one. They'll probably print #preorders + x copies, so it's limited in that sense, but not strictly.

That these games are getting physical releases is kind of insane in the first place. No one would buy these at retail

I keep confusing Natsume with Rising Star Games and thinking that Lumo will be limited to a small number of copies.

My guess is they printed the minimum and spread them around.

They aren't pre-orders since the games are shipping now. Someone already got theirs, and mine arrive on Friday.

Seems Natsume just printed up a certain numbers and sold a few with keychains directly on Amazon, and the rest to other resellers (VGP, PA, ebay seller) so they can sell via their own channels. The other sites selling them are probably just waiting for their pallets to come in.

Actually this might be limited since they are shipping now. They appear to have put in an order without taking preorders and are just shipping what they have on hand like LRG.

Edit: Seems like they may have more going by their twitter. Or they will do another run.

I was more talking about Wild Guns. The River City thing is a bit weird, yeah

Wow I feel bad for Canadians buying stuff from Amazon US. This game is cheaper on VGP then if I got the amazon prime discount. I didn't realize the CAD was that depressed.

Usually Canadian prices are adjusted to match USD or at least close to it, so a 40 USD game is 50-55CAD

not sure why this isn't

To be honest, I'm surprised that they aren't even available at a place like Gamestop. GS still carries some really niche stuff, and seems like the type of place that would also carry these. I guess they wanted to cut out the retailer middle man.

GS has a minimum order amount I am sure. If they are only selling this in 3 stores all digital I am betting they didn't print a huge amount of copies. Also the only one sold out right now is the edition with the keychain.

Selling games like this directly or through specialised retailers makes a lot of sense. I don't think the added exposure from Gamestop would make up the higher risks/cuts. The core audience for these games know where and how to get them.

I just noticed that Wild Guns is also only 39.99 on VGP so I might pick up both of these through there since Natsume is selling their stuff as a third party on Amazon.

Welp they are doing a reprint of the Keychain edition of River City so they underestimated demand on that one. So anyone looking for that don't pay too much on ebay.

Edit: Crap I double posted sorry about that my phone browser didn't update with my last post.

Are we really discussing the Vita's life and Sony support on a thread that only tangentially is related to it? Come on guys, you know better.

I remember when Shizuka quoted this at me. I feel like I could chop a few words out of that quote and put a new one in and it would apply here :(

Anyway, speaking of Shizuka, he just got this teaser on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/LimitedRunDoug/status/780841761312796674

Just had a sweet call about something exciting!

@LimitedRunDoug Is it Vita-related?

@goldzuka Yes, but that's the only clue I can give ;)

Must be a very small print. Even GS received in copies for something like Moco Moco Friends from Aksys. But with a few thousand Gamestops... that can still be a "high" number.

Sad that my LRG collection is going to be incomplete after this Friday. I just can't stomach paying $50 for Thomas Was Alone.

Probably good for you. We will all get to the point where a game is released that we don't like. Already having an incomplete collection makes these games easier to pass on. I'm going for a complete Vita set but only the PS4 games I really want myself.

Staying complete is going to be very pricey in the long run. I might pass on TWA PS4 as well. Still going to buy all Vita games as long as they release no more than 2-3/month though.

See my post earlier.
Yeah, it's just getting too expensive to keep up. Sticking to Vita starting this Friday (unless it's a PS4 title I do really want to own)

Its interesting reading through this thread and seeing the different takes on buying/collecting these games. There's a lot of people who seem to approach it like I do, and a lot of people who seem to want to buy every release. Nothing wrong with buying all of them, no judgment here. I just realized that's not the way I want to handle it.

I've only bought 3 of the LRG releases so far and I think I'm down for OWH this Friday (Vita), but I almost found myself in that mentality where I needed to try to buy each release. I have no idea why, I just found myself in this dumb fit of "well if I don't buy them now, I'll never have another shot at it!" but then I realized the correct response to that is "So what?" The LRG release list is full of games that other people have loved, but the majority have been games I don't love and that's okay. No need to let myself get fooled into thinking I need all these games just because they're rare.

I got Oddworld because I haven't played it since the PS1 days and always wanted to go back. Perfect timing, AND its on the Vita which I like buying games for.

I got Soldner X2 because I love shmups and its on the Vita.

I got Shadow Complex because I always meant to play that one and you might as well get the limited print because it'll only go up in value. Plus, if I love the game then I'll have a nice copy that I can keep forever, regardless of PSN/XBL servers.

Now I'm getting OWH because I like the art style a lot and its on Vita.

Vita is a fun system for me to buy games for. I've got a collection of about 25 physical games, but they're all ones I really enjoy. I got no interest in collecting the entire library because there's a ton of garbage I would feel bad about paying money to have on my shelf. Each time I hear that voice telling me I need to buy more LRG games or I'm "missing out" I just remind myself that some of these games (to me) are like buying Little Deviants - I'll never play them and I'll only question why I own it.

I assume some people buy them as an investment to sell for some extra money down the road, but getting all of the releases just to have a complete is gonna get way too expensive.

Agreed. I try to think of LRG releases similar to the collection of all other releases in the world; I don't buy everything. Even though I'm really happy to see more games getting physical releases, it doesn't mean I have to buy every single one of them. I try to look at each game and make a case by case decision.

That's a good point too though. I haven't followed the prices too closely, but every time I'm buying some game and there are others I'm passing on, the thought crosses my mind that I might be ignoring a sure investment that would make me 20-30 bucks. Ultimately taking the time to sell it isn't something I wanna do.

Been only buying Vita. Only go PS4 when the title interests me. Like Shadow Complex Remasterd. The Shantae release would be the next two I get for PS4.

Yea, ill probably be doing that from now on.

See my post earlier.

I think I am going to go Vita only unless it is a Japanese game. I'm having a hard time to even justify $25 for the vita version lmao.

Me too. I bought Breach and Clear (to support LRG, turns out that the game is really good), Soldner 2 (amazing game) and Dragon Fantasy 2 (didn't bought the digital version, liked the first one). Gonna buy OWH, but there isn't a lot of already released games that I want a cart.

Kind of odd that I'm having similar thoughts myself. 4 releases a month didn't bother me, but 6 is causing some second thoughts and if I stop something, it'll be the ps4 copies too.

I've already decided to stop buying soundtracks, just to much to keep up with on top of other new releases and retro purchases, something needs to give. Vita releases are what brought me here, I will keep up with those, the rest is becoming less important. I will admit it's hard to consider though, I haven't missed one yet.

I have too many things I collect, so I only pick the LRG that interest me. So far it's only been Rainbow Moon, then I'll be getting OWH this week, and then eventually Silver Case and Salt and Sanctuary.

You're still partly addicted yourself though ;)

Just kidding, you do you ^^

Yeah, I'm not claiming to be rational myself. ;) I feel I can afford to waste $25 once in a while for something I enjoy doing so it's not a huge deal to me. Most of the Vita games so far have actually been games I enjoy or want to try though so it isn't too bad.

If I felt the quality standards dropped significantly and too many low quality releases were signed then I would probably stop trying to catch 'em all after a while. I feel we're heading in the opposite direction of that now with many great games announced so I'm not considering it yet.
