Watching the one-day-early stream of Mafia III on PC.
He just announced that right now, it seems to be locked to 30 fps, even on PC.
He also mentioned that he has spoken to a dev about it, that seemed to "be surprised". No more comment.

I really hope this isn't the case, this sounds horrible. Thought those days were over.

Lock to 30 fps if old news.

Update:

Some more info from reddit:

Eh i say wait for a further patch or just fiddle with .ini file
But i am an optimist so i dect such things to be resolved :x

Isn't the game out now in NZ? Should be easy for someone to check.

~3h45m to go, unless Valve's corrected the countdown timer ("In less than an hour" was added to the other side of "In approximately one hour", which obviously doesn't make any sense and throws the timer off by an hour), in which case there's ~2h45m to go.

PC players get the full console experience... I bet Hangar13 is like: Durante will fix this anyway.

I like Cohh. He has fun sounds on Twitch.

Is 30fps really a deal breaker for a Mafia game? Singleplayer?

Cohh shilled hardcore for AK and kept saying the game ran 60 stable on release streams so when I see something like this I'm worried rofl.
Game will cost 10€ in 2 weeks.

That's about how much it's worth if it's locked to 30 on PC.

Yes - mouse aim would feel like shit.

Good thing refunds are around on Steam. I'll test it and if its true with no possible fix, I'll refund and wait for a cheaper price

For me it is. I can't sit at a monitor and play a game at 30 fps. Might sounds like some elitist BS to you, but not to me. It's too sluggish, it's too choppy. I can't cope with it, really.

Yea.

I believe on consoles they add some visual tech to surpress the effects of low FPS but with a mouse it's really jarring. Also now that I've had a 144hz monitor for 2 years whenever I switch it to 60 even that feels off.

When you get used to something like that, going back is horrible.

Eh, not for me.

What would be a deal breaker for me is no controller support. But fortunately that won't be the case as it's already confirmed on the store page.

I really don't buy the elitism arguments that people throw around. Of you are used to, expect and enjoy playing one way and find the other way intollerable after years of not having to deal with 30fps, then I think that's fair. Certainly is for me. Not unplayable, but hugely degrading since I intend to use the Steam Controller with mouse look

It's actually mostly a case of sitting closer to a monitor. And also, many TVs have postprocessing to smooth framerates.

I'm okay with 30 FPS on two conditions:

- I'm using a gamepad and not mouselook

- You have your shit together in terms of frame timing

This basically means it isn't okay to ever enforce this on PC globally. You should never make the first assumption for this platform, and the second assumption happens way too infrequently at all, but especially on PC.

So, nope. Hope for their sake it isn't true or unintentional and quickly fixed.

They certainly can't be that stupid.
But then again we had Arkham Knight shipping with a 30fps lock just last year.

Won't touch the game with a ten foot pole if this turns out to be a concious design decision (aka physics tied to framerate etc).

Locked FPS on PC game is absurd. I'd be really surprised if there was no way to unlock it. They better not have done some armature hour shit and tied the physics calculations to the FPS.

"Is 30fps really a deal breaker for a Mafia game? Singleplayer?"

There is no reason a consumer should fight against their own self-interest by defending or downplaying this.

Wow, not feeling a frame rate lock at all. Very disappointing if true.

Why are we finding out about this right before the launch? Smh.

Pretty pathetic, especially for a release that they are trying their hardest to not allow fair pricing on involving the cd-key trade. 2K games royally fucking up again? You don't say?!?

Well if I needed another reason to not buy this until later I now have:

Reviews
Free dlc with shit that I want to play with from the start
60 fps availability

A 30FPS lock is a dealbreaker for any PC game, no matter the genre.

Hopefully this is some innocent mistake on the devs' part that'll be patched forthwith.

Interesting - thanks all.

As a console player I am obviously not expressing a view but I thought that most people could live with 30 fps in single player - subject to IQ etc etc.

I do like single player games and 30 fps has never bothered me on console. It's all about the story right? Right?

No it's also about the gameplay, which higher framerates make better.
